Holy smokes, can it be? A Daedalus R14 Beta? That's right folks! And it looks like it's got the beginnings of Media Engine support. This beta doesn't come from StrmnNrmn though, but from developer Wally. And this FW 3.xx release comes from creator StrmnNrmn, flavored by developer Wally, and was given to you and your PSPs. Check out the details, plus a new update, at the full article!Download: Unofficial Daedalus R14 Beta (Wally) Download: Unofficial Daedalus R14 Beta (Captain Morgan) |

There was a time when developing games in your own garage would have made you rich beyond your wildest dreams. That dream is getting farther and farther out of reach as the video game industry is becoming larger and more complex. EA CEO John Riccitiello remarked in his DICE keynote speech that by 2010, the garage studio dream will no longer be possible. More in the full article. |

Celebrated homebrew developer StrmnNrmn posted an update today over at his personal website regarding the promised R13 version of Daedalus. For those not in the know, this program is an emulator that allows PlayStation Portable owners play N64 games on their Sony handheld.According to the coder, he will be releasing R13 after he has added the final finishing touches to the savestate support. These include checking if the savestate you're loading is for a different rom than the one currently loaded as well as linking some metadata to the savestate so they can be shown in the UI. "In summary R13 is really close and I've not forgotten about it. Just a few more things to sort out and it'll be ready for release," StrmnNrmn added. Currently, here are the already functioning features of Daedalus R13's savestate option straight from the coder himself:

After a month-long hiatus, StrmnNrmn finally got his broadband Internet access back after moving and blogged about another update to his N64 emulator for the PSP, Daedalus. Amidst preparations for the Tokyo Game Show, StrmnNrmn was able to take steps into adding savestate support, a feature often requested by many a Daedalus user. You may already be familiar with savestates from emulators on your PC, which allow you to save the exact state the emulation is in at the precise moment. Aside from skipping everything from the title introductions and even the load save screen (for games with one), it would even help StrmnNrmn in quickly getting to states in the emulation for testing and debugging, for instance. Though there's nothing tangible to test, the developer did state that he had "a little bit of work left to do" on the system and is sure to keep it as a new feature for Daedalus R13. StrmnNrmn believes there's still a lot of optimizations to run through before he could release R13, so though a September 29 release has been planned, it's likely that it could be released in the first weekend of October. And kudos goes to Sepheroth for the cluing us in to StrmnNrmn's update. |

Homebrew developer PSPdemon recently made an interesting discovery regarding N64 game Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and N64 emulator for the PlayStation Portable Daedalus. The video clip below shows how he was able to access the test or debug areas.
PSPdemon wrote, "I mainly wanted to see if it could run at all, and what would the framerate be. And to my suprise, it ran pretty well on the debug rooms. I tried sound with it. and i was shocked - a framerate between 15-24 fps with sound and the sound wasn't even half that bad!" The developer also added that room 125 is also accessible on the said emulator. Lastly, PSPdemon mentioned that he will be looking at a few other games and try to find out the same. In the mean time, just enjoy the video clip! |

StrmnNrmn has posted an update on his blog again, this time about running the PSP's CPU on its maximum processing speed. As the author explained, the Daedalus N64 Emulator automatically raises the PSP to its peak processing speed of 333 MHz.But while this gives the emulator a major speed boost, it also means a huge battery drain. With that explanation in tow, StrmnNrmn further reiterated that he does support running the PSP on full speed, and has been doing so since Daedalus' R1. Not exactly news on the emulator's latest update, but closure of an old issue that the dev decided to take the time to resolve. Kudos goes to blackrave, who tipped us off to this news. |
