PSP Slim - Image 1Here's some great news for all the emulator fans out there. StoneCut has announced on the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums that Ahman has ported NJ's popular homebrew emulators for use with firmware 3.xx.

This means that PlayStation Portable users can now run the emulators on a PSP Slim. The ported emulators are cps1psp, cps2psp, ncdzpsp and mvspsp. Ahman says that the only emulator tested on fw 3.xx was cps2psp, but that the others should also work fine.

You can also choose to download the ported Adhoc versions of the emulators below. The edited source code is also available for download. For more info, we suggest that you drop by our PSP Development Forums by clicking on the Visit link below.

Capcom CPS1 EmulatorUpdate: NJ has just updated his Capcom CPS1 Emulator to vAlpha2. Here's a rough translation of the updates:
  • It corresponded to the game of QSOUND.
  • Dip switch inscription of the old game was corrected.
  • Japanese resource the file was added.
  • Method of using is the same as NGEPSP.
  • QSOUND processing is light.
  • The pattern where VRAM for sprite is not enough somehow.
  • Next becomes beta, but you think that time is required for adjustment for a while.
The updated version can be download using the link below.

NJ, the author of the NeoGeo CDZ emulator has just released one of the first CAPCOM CPS1 Emulators for the PSP. There have been a few before, but I believe this one is the best currently.

Although the readme is in Japanese, I was able to salvage whatever Babelfish could translate. I know, it isn't great, but for now, you'll have to make do with it.

Translated Readme:

"The game of QSOUND does not operate yet.
The idea contest is omission, but being to be difficult this way. * With the old game of large demon boundary village and the like, inscription of the dip switch of demonstration sound and continuing permission becoming opposite, it increases.
You correct with the following release, it is with. By all means please read readme.txt of attachment."

The download contains two builds, one for 1.0 and the other KXploited.

NeoGeo CDZ Emulator for the PSPFast, miracle workers, awesome, amazing, who could this be? If you're thinking about the guys of the NeoGeo CDZ Emulator for the PSP, then right you are. Quite frankly, I am running out of adjectives to describe 'em, because I think that most of them descriptions that I could think of would be an understatement to how dedicated, quick, and efficient these guys are when it comes to tackling this emulator. The homebrew community is so lucky to have them on their team. Snaps for the developers!

And yes, we go to this hour's main event (we'll never know, maybe they'll come up with a better update in the span of hours). The NEOGEO CDZ Emulator for PSP 0.5 has been updated from beta 2 to beta 3, for your own downloading pleasure. Now, we should go to the changelog which is translated by QJ's Jeff C., who is just as dedicated as the NeoGeo CDZ Emulator devs.

Changelog:
  • Fixed a bug that cannot load the command list.
  • Abandoned the game title display function introduced in v0.4 that loads the game title from title_x.sys in the zipped games, since the controllability of the file browser has suffered a big impact.
  • Always like all the other version updates, the save state will not be compatible. Since this will keep changing until an official release, this change will not be included in the future.
With those all aptly said, don't hesitate to hook us up with your constructive criticisms, suggestions, and other what-nots through your comments. Till the next update, which I bet is not far from now.

NEO-GEOA while ago I wrote an article about NEOGEO CDZ Emulator 0.5 Beta 2 for PSP and said how unbelievably fast the people over at the NEOGEO camp are working, and I don't know if they are making a sport out of updating (good news for us) but they're back. This time around they have released a bugfix on the NEOGEO Emulator for PSP. Call it a hunch, but maybe in an day or so they'd release another update.

The translation is brought to you by the letter J. Thanks Jeff Chen!

Changelog ver 0.1.3
  • Fixed a bug in timer processing when updating ncdzpsp.
  • Fixed a bug when a reset occurs in watchdog, there is a chance that the program falls into an infinite loop and cannot exit.

NeoGeo CDZ Emulator for the PSPFast would be an understatement to describe how the guys responsible for developments on the NeoGeo are, at dishing out updates. I was checking out the website one minute and already in the process of writing an article on the Beta 1 when all of a sudden, there it was, Beta 2 updates. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining (and I am pretty sure, so are you). I am in awe at their dedication to the project. Kudos to the team!

Changelog:

Beta 1
  • NeoGeo emulation modified according to the same changes made on ngepsp
  • With the change above, the internal structure has been largely modified, thus making the state data unusable (cannot select Load).
  • Raster effect supported. I added this to ngepsp just to test it out. If you enable it, the emulation speed will suffer a big drop due to the heavy calculation of this effect.
  • Problems introduced from the Windows version have been fixed:

1. ssideki2 - the ground disappears when raster effect is enabled.
2. Karnovr - the background of Jean stage/round 1 is not showing.

  • Some games run faster (the opening of Galford in Shin Samurai Spirit and etc.
Beta 2
  • Timer processing fixed.
  • Watchdog processing fixed.
  • State save version update. The compatibility with older versions is now void.
Thanks a bunch to Jeff Chen for the translation.

NEOGEO EmulatorThe NEOGEO Emulator has been updated again taking it further to Beta 3. There are a few changes which should make this emulator even better. And who better than our resident translator/blogger Jeff C. to translate the changelog?

Quoting the author first, "This is an unplanned update. This version is focused on fixing a big bug on Z80 emulation (now I think it should work correctly)."

Actual Changelog:
  • Fixed the bug on switching to the Z80.
  • Fixed the problem that alpham2 and other sound not playing.
  • The support for Universal BIOS v2.0/2.1 is abandoned. It just stopped working for some unknown reason. Version 1.3 or earlier will still work, please switch to using them instead.
  • Fixed a problem when using AES BIOS, FIX sprite cannot be displayed correctly.
  • Timer processing completely fixed. It should start working properly from now on.
  • Based on beta2 bugfix/bugfix2, the problem that drawing skip did not work properly during BIOS hardware initialization has been fixed.
I'm sure a lot of NEOGEO fans will appreciate this. Anyways, there is a 1.0/2.XX version, plus a 1.5 KXploited version. There is also a Windows converter application.

NeoGeo EmulatorSpeedy guys, those Japanese devs: Only a few hours after Alpha 1 of the promising emulator was released, here we are again with Alpha 2. Made by NJ, the author of the excellent NeoGeo CDZ Emulator, this one supports the arcade romsets. This also means that due the nature of ROMs, some games will not be playable, as they are too big to fit into the PSP's memory. However, the download includes a handy list saying which games are supported and which aren't. While the readme itself is written in Japanese, the list contains the English game names, so there should be no problems checking out which games to try with this new emulator.

Translated once again by QJ's own Jeff C., here comes the changelog...

Changes in Alpha 2:
- BIOS selection is moved into file browser.
Press Square button to bring up the selection menu in the file browser.
- The help will be displayed only when you start the emulator for the first time (for the change above).
- Auto-frame skip is changed to enabled as the default setup.
- SRAM and memory card are now not saved when a game fails to start.
- Added some fixes that enables some more games that were not supported.
Some very large games still cannot be emulated.
(Please check the list.txt for the list of games. Part1: games that should be supported; Part2: Games that are not supported now but possible in the next beta; Part3: games that are too large to fit in the PSP memory so still cannot be emulated)

* Simplifying the user interface for free up some more memory, some games may become supported this way, but basically this change has little effect.

NeoGeo CDZ Emulator for the PSPIf you remember, the hardworking guys over at NeoGeo CDZ Emulator just released NEOGEO CDZ Emulator v0.4.5 just a couple of days back and they've never ceased with the improvements since. Here they are again with NEOGEO Emulator for PSP Alpha 1, a test version of the tweaks they made previously. Just take note that some specifications may change in the official release.

Now over here at QJ Jeff C. made a translation of the ReadMe file that comes along with the download making it a whole lot easier to understand. Thanks Jeff C.!

Info from Read Me:
  • Only supporting the compressed ROM set for MAME 0.106.
  • Clone set containing home purpose ROM is not supported.
  • Protected/encrypted ROM set is not supported.
  • Games with special input port or dip switch are not supported.
  • Due to the lack of memory on the PSP, only the ROM sets smaller 128Mbit (16MB) are supported. (I haven't tested the upper limit of the supported ROM size)
  • There may still be some ROM sets that cannot be started even they comply with the conditions above.

NeoGeo CDZThe NeoGeo CDZ Emulator for the PSP has been updated. It has been only a few days since the launch of NJ's NeoGeo CDZ v0.4 beta and here comes another one. Well, I for one don't mind these betas, as long as it guarantees that the emulator is better-tuned as each version is released.

Here's the complete list of changelogs:

v0.4 Beta 3
- Fixed the random freezing problem in the command list screen
- Abandoned the up/down mark to display multiple lines in the command list

v0.4 Beta 2
- 12-pixel font removed. All changed to 14-pixel font
- With the change above, the font data is completed
- You can now configure the initialization startup directory in the file browser. In the file browser, move the cursor onto the directory you want to be set to default and then press Select button to set.
- Japanese user interface completed.
-For the font data, though it may consume too much memory, the Japanese font is now usable. (The English and Japanese command lists are both displayable now)
- Snapshot button in the menu screens changed to Start button

v0.4 Beta 1
- Added the support for the command list that is in use for MAME Plus!

Please put the command.dat into the same directory with the EBOOT.PBP. Either Japanese or English version is usable.

To display the command list, press Select + R.
This is just a temporarily button configuration, and may be changed later.
(If some of the buttons from the combination were assigned to other actions, they will still be working.)

Don't forget to give your own constructive views, comments, and insights to aid our developers, because hey, that's what we all want - better games.
