Oh PSP Hacking 101! How we've missed you!

It's been months since we've seen an episode of PSP Hacking 101. Since Episode 23, we've seen the rise of a lot of new firmware updates, as well as the addition of 3.40 OE-A. As is proper with their show, they've decided to tackle 3.40 OE-A with a helpful tutorial on installing Dark_AleX's custom firmware.

The PSP Hacking 101 crew got the help of bobtentpeg from their forums to show them what to do. Now, you'll need three files, which we've got for you below. Just follow the directions (Be very careful!) and you should end up with a PSP that runs on the latest custom firmware, complete with 640x480 video clip playback. Enjoy!

The PSP Hacking 101 team is back once again with another episode of their handy-dandy netcast. Unlike episode 22, which talked about the awesomeness that was the 3.03 downgrader, they're now talking about something near and dear to our hearts: PSX games.

They're going to teach you about getting PSX games to run on the PSP using PopStation. Specifically, Pox and Ragable are using AutoPopStation v4. With this handy-dandy tutorial, you'll be playing FFVII with the best of them.

Note, however, that during the taping of this, 3.10 came out. If you've been reading up on it, 3.10 has increased support for PAL games, which means you won't need to use conversion software so much. That being said, enjoy the video.

Oh, and Ragable kills Mitrovarr in this episode.

Yeah, they talk about 3.02 OE-B

So what's in the latest episode of PSP hacking 101? They discuss which particular PSP's are good to buy, give a run-through of which firmwares can run homebrew, show how to install and Run Devhook 0.52, inform you folks how to install 3.02 OE-B, and how to to subscribe to Audio and Video Podcasts with the RSS Reader.

One last note, for some reason the video embed on the source we used isn't working so we just decided to host the file. The file is in .mp4 format, so better get the appropriate media player to run it.

There's some PSP in this podcast, somewhere...Well, that was quick. Pox and Ragable usually do CommuteCasts every few weeks, but it's only been a couple of days. Maybe the brave souls of PSP Hacking 101 have something else on their minds now.

Continuing the nuttiness that was CommuteCast Episode 15, the pair talked about a lot of things, including the very expensive piece of keyboard goodness known as the Optimus OLED Keyboard. Not that any of us could afford a US$ 1,200 piece typing mechanism though, but man, if that wasn't an FPS lover's dream.

The CommuteCast focused mostly on unit comparisons between the PS3 and Wii in relation to their launch. They also talked about what each company would need to do to be at the top of the console wars, especially in relation to the money sink that Sony's PS3 console seems to be at the moment. Better still, they shared our own laughter at the number of PS3s that weren't used for PS3-related purposes, especially the PS3s that were either smashed, disassembled, or turned into working George Foreman Grill clones.

In any case, here's another 26 minutes of Pox and Ragable in PSP Hacking 101's CommuteCast: Episode 16. Enjoy!

PSP Hacking 101You might think that the sound quality of Pox and Ragable's CommuteCasts might be a turn-off, but we actually kind of like it, and sticking their shows onto your iPod and playing them in the car makes you think you've got some well-informed backseat drivers.

In episode 15 of the PSP Hacking 101 CommuteCast, they talk about all the waiting they've been doing for Sony and Nintendo's new consoles. That includes the actual time spent in lines and the cold nights in Colorado, as well as the attempts to make some extra cash through eBay sales. Speaking of eBay, they also discuss the launch numbers for the consoles, including some rough estimates on how many were sold online, and speculations on the kind of people who'd be willing to pay big money for auctioned consoles.

Near the end of their CommuteCast, the dynamic duo also get to discuss the issues that people are having with their PS3 units. Most notable of these is the problem with PS3 game resolutions and the downscaling that occurs on certain TVs. The latter part of their CommuteCast serves as a rough overview of the kind of picture quality people will eventually get from their games depending on their monitors, unless Sony fixes it soon.

In any case, why talk about it when you can simply hear it straight from them, right? Enjoy the download.

PSP Hacking 101's Pox and Ragable have done it again - it's another excellent podcast. When we surfed over to Pox's Blogspot (psphacking101), we saw that CommuteCast Episode 12 was done and ready for download.

Pox and RagableIf you're not familiar with these guys (like maybe you've been doing research in Antarctica for the past two years), they're the guys we so love for their CommuteCasts and podcasts, such as the famous PSP Hacking 101 Episode 19: Homebrew Basics (that's exactly what it's about: the homebrew basics - it's a noob's best friend and a funny vid to watch).

Anyway, back to CommuteCast number 12. Topics covered in this one include the following (this is far from a complete list; they talk about a lot, as usual, hehe):
  • 2.71 Custom Firmware SE-B [Pox's blog linked to our article]
  • Podcasts comparison to PBS
  • Windows Vista Upgrade Coupon
  • Adapter Lets Any Car Use Ethanol
  • Sony's BDP-S1 has been delayed
  • 3D Games Peaked?
  • Adobe taking over the world
  • E-bay Rules on PS3/Wii Auctions
  • The Myth of 1080p
  • Drastic Wyoming weather
  • Intel Core 2 Quad

Episode 19! YAY!It's finally here! Pox and Ragable have just come out with the 19th episode of PSP Hacking 101. If you remember some time back, they put Episode 19 on hold because news of a new exploit was revealed. This time, they're going back to basics or, as we prefer to call it, "All you ever Wanted to Know About the Homebrew Scene but were too Afraid (of being branded newb) to Ask."

In this episode of their popular video series, they talk about what homebrew is and the whys and hows of getting into it, from buying the right PSP to tweak to teaching the all-important upgrading and downgrading process. They'll also tell you how to install and run homebrew on your PSP. All in all, the foundations of a long-term education in the art and craft of homebrew.

Oh, and did we mention that they've got sock puppets for this one? Sweet.

If there's anyone you know who's thinking of entering the homebrew scene or of simply buying a PSP, this would be a good video to show them the potential of that wonderful black brick.

We've got the mpeg-4 version up for you, so you can play it on your PSP as well as your usual media players, but there's also a wmv version (480p) on their page. Expect to see a 720p wmv version in the next day or so. Enjoy!
