FreePlay debunks Team Mack 6.00 CFW - Image 1Despite being widely criticized for their work on MAC-B 6.00, Team Mack has remained adamant, continuing to defend themselves with video updates, which continue to get bashed anyway. If user comments won't get to them, maybe this one will. If there's anyone in the homebrew scene who's gonna speak up against tomfoolery, it's FreePlay. The self-confessed "PSP hacker, PSP Revolution addict, atheist, skeptic, all-purpose ranter" posts his own video debunking Team Mack's 6.00 CFW.

PSP Revo

One of the most popular PSP homebrew games around gets yet another update. DeNitro and Devin923 (thanks for the heads up, guys) just posted a patch for PSP Revolution v0.3, bringing the StepMania-inspired game up to v0.3a. If the previous version had a good mix of new stuff and a couple of fixes, this new serving focuses on correcting a few problems reported with v0.3:
  • Fixed problem loading songs created with Dancing Monkeys/Gorilla (Causing Crash)
  • Fixed rare (but repeatable) crash when Dizzy mod was enabled
  • Fixed preview music not at right position in VBR encoded songs
  • Fixed preview music playing only playing first 2 seconds of some songs
  • Fixed arrow colors shifting off during some songs
  • Fixed error when the PSP comes back from being suspended during gameplay
  • Fixed rare case of a single step being read out of order
  • Added support for #DISPLAYBPM tag in .SM files
As DeNitro mentioned in the forums, you'd need to have v0.3 installed before this patch can be usable. Once you have that covered, just copy the PSPR folder (or folders for fw 1.5 users) from the patch to the PSP's /PSP/Game folder; then when prompted to, just click "yes" to overwrite.

For notes on controls, song selection, song installation (yep, you can actually add additional songs), and what-have-yous, just browse through the readme file included in the DL. Now go ahead and click on that download link to keep 'em fingers dancin' (or pressin' or whatever).

Woohoo! MonkeyBoy1916 is at it again with his mods for DeNitro and Devin923's DDR-for-your-fingers, PSP Revolution. Now coming up with his Anime Style v5 mod, players can look forward to happy days ahead which involve playing a game which uses our favorite anime tunes (and with the deluge of Dark_AleX releases, lately, one can't help but wonder if all this is a Thanksgiving treat, or an early Christmas present).

In any case, MonkeyBoy1916 has also pointed out that this isn't the final release of this version as his work was temporarily stopped because of an unfortunate PC problem. According to him, there should have been a whole lot more features added in this release such as more songs and better graphics, but that would have to wait for the meantime. He also mentions that he wishes to be able to make full use PSP Revolution 0.3's new features, so let's see what he comes up with in the weeks ahead.

Some of the changes that he made for this version are:
  • Updated to PSP Revolution v0.3
  • Eboot Completely redone ( Song/BG/ICON )
  • Main Menu Redone
  • Song Select Menu Redone
  • Failed Screen Redone
  • New Score Screen, Updated for v0.3
  • Options Text Edited
  • Loading Bars Redone
  • Some Song Backgrounds redone
  • Some Song Banners Redone
  • Other Graphical Changes ( You will see )
  • 28 Naruto Songs Added ( Just so many good ones, I couldnt resist )
  • 5 Bleach Songs Added
  • One Piece Anime Added, with 1 Song ( More to Come )
  • Gundam Anime Added, With 2 Songs ( More to Come )
  • FLCL ( Fooly Cooly ) Anime Added, with 7 Songs
So, what can we say? At the moment, the only thing coming to mind would be "Sugoi~~!!"

PSP Revolution

Are your coordination skills still up to par? Are you still good with your fingers? We don't think anyone's really that bad with their fingers. It's all a matter of how you use them, anyways. That's why practice will always help.

Now we haven't heard from PSP Revolution recently. All we've been getting for some time now are mods and additional "skins". Hardrive tipped us off, and we just found out that today, DeNitro and Devin923 have released PSP Revolution v0.3 for everyone to get busy with. For those not familiar with this non-homebrew-looking homebrew, it's played much like Step Mania. Keep up with the music and make sure you time your button presses well when they hit the indicators on the top of the screen.

Here are some excerpts from the changelog:
  • New grading and scoring system based off of DDR MAX 2
  • Score Screen Redesigned
  • Song Preview Music now plays proper section of a song instead of from the beginning
  • Added a slight delay to preview playback for a better feel when selecting songs
  • Max song image size supported increased to 1024x768+
  • Screenshots now saved as .JPG's to the PSP's photo folder (1.5 firmware doesn't show .PNG's)
  • Song and pack lists are now sorted alphabetically
  • New step explosion effects that are now colored to match type of hit
  • Greatly receded memory usage of step and beat information when a song is loaded to play
  • Significantly decreased game and song load times
There's like a whole Sunday's worth of other changes, new features, and bug fixes that they've done for v0.3, but it'll take us some time to list it down here. So, to save time (because we know some of you would just go on ahead and download the homebrew), you can either check that out in the readme or in our Download site (linked below). The readme also includes all the info you need to install additional songs and where to get them. So use your fingers and click-click-click!

PSP Revolution

Get your dancing fingers ready 'cause here comes yet another mod of the famous PSP Revolution. Concocted by Peter D. and KyuubiDX of Deviant Staff, this mod of DDR for PSP comes with Square Enix menus and songs. It features Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, and hopefully, the song list will be a lot bigger in the near future. As of now, there are only 12 songs, but Peter D. is positive that he will be releasing Anime Style v5 within a week.

The instruction for installation are as follows:
  • Firmware 1.5: drag the folders inside the fw 1.5 folder into your "ms0/psp/game/" folder.
  • Firmware 1.0: drag the folder inside the 1.0 folder into your "ms0/psp/game/" folder. Then go to the "__SCE__PSPR_SQUARE_EDITION" inside the 1.5 folder and copy all but the eboot.pbp to your "ms0/psp/game/" folder
Version 1 features 6 games of Square Enix with two songs each:
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Chrono Cross
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
  • Final Fantasy VIII
  • Final Fantasy IX

Monkeyboy1916's mod for DeNitro and Devin923's PSP Revolution, Anime Style, is saying sayonara for now. Maybe, you're thinking that he has already announced that in version three, but because of some bugs that were found in that game's release, he continued to refine his work. This time though, it's the real deal.

"Unfortunatly this is my last version this time, only because there aren't many more songs worth adding, but when a new version of PSP Revolution comes out I will be here to update Anime Style, and maybe throw in a couple songs," says Monkeyboy1916 on the letter he sent QJ.

However, the recent additions to his mod would make it a farewell to remember. Since the last release, there are a number of new animes added to the pack like Samurai Champloo, Ruronin Kenshin, Ghost in the Shell, Eureka Seven and Cowboy Bebop. The previously included anime packs were given new tracks as well.

PSP Revolution Loco Roco Style

Loco Roco, well, where do we start? Whatever Alejandro Quan Madrid said about it, here at QJ territory, every time there is something to write about these cute blobs, let's just say that everybody here (especially Karen) would kill to cover the story. Well, what can we say, we fell in love with them blobs, there's no reason not to. And we know that you also got captivated with these creatures, that's why homebrew developer MonkeyBoy1916's latest creation might tickle your fancy as he proudly brings to all of you, Loco Roco lovers, the PSP Revolution Loco Roco Style v1.

The developer mentioned to us that he "modded everything to have a locoroco feel to it, but since there are very few locoroco songs available i could only include 2, once more are available i will add them to LocoRoco Style.." Yes, there are only two songs - Loco Roco Demo and Evil Theme, but once you start playing, you'll easily forget that inadequacy because you're already getting amused by the Loco Roco feel of the game. Just be careful not to be too enamored because you might miss them steps, which unfortunately happened to us.

Anyway, there is definitely more room for improvement (which means more Loco Roco) for this app in its next release. MonkeyBoy1916 would also like to apologize about the delayed release of Anime Style v4, but he promises that it would be worth the wait "as it has about 20 new songs and 5 new Anime's". For now, let the PSP Revolution Loco Roco Style v1 melt your hearts. And also don't forget to talk about it through your comments.

I won't deny it...I'm a Nintendo girl. That's why when Monkeboy1916 wrote to inform us here at QJ that he's come up with a Nintendo Style mod for PSP Revolution, I knew I just had to check it out. The problem is, I suck at any Revolution game (call it two left feet and butterfingers!)...but since I've always harbored a great love affair with Ninty characters, I set out to try this game.

PSP Revolution Nintendo Style v1.0 was codeveloped by ForScythe. As the name suggests, songs and themes are all taken from popular Nintendo games - Yoshi, Tetris, Star Fox, Pac Man, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and of course, Mario. Arrows and menus have also been modded in this 'brew. Currently, there are 18 songs included in this game.

Monkeyboy1916 would like to thank Person917 for providing him the idea to create this mod and RomStampede for the Mario and Donkey Kong backgrounds. The developer is still undecided as to whether he'll be continuing this project so if you like this mod and you think there should be a second version, don't forget to show Nintendo Style v1.0 some love by leaving your comments below.

Now on to the songs...

Zelda

Saria's SongHyrule Castle

The Legend of Zelda series is an action, adventure, role-playing, and puzzle-solving title that became a big hit with gamers, once taking the number one position in G4's "100 Greatest Games of All Time".

One of the most popular titles in the series is Ocarina of Time, selling a total of 7.6 million copies worldwide. In this game, Link has to learn how to play a certain music to move along the game. As it's the Zelda title where music is an integral part, it is not surprising for Monkeyboy1916 and ForScythe to choose two songs from it. Mash your fingers to Saria's Song and Hyrule Castle in the Zelda portion of this mod.

Mario

Super Mario Wolrd MatrixMario Bbros. OriginalSuper Mario Bros. 3Mario Techno

I'm not shy of admitting it: I've had a huge crush on Mario eversince I was five. Not that he's cute, he was just the first guy I played with...and despite being a videogame character, I grew fond of him. So it was but natural that I zeroed in on the Mario part of Nintendo Style before trying out the other songs.

Being one of the biggest Nintendo franchise, there were a lot of songs for Monkeyboy1916 and ForScythe to choose from; eight Mario themes are included in this one. Although three were remixes (Super Mario World Matrix Mix, Super Mario Bros. 3 Remix, and Mario Techno Theme), I am happy to see the Mario Bros. Original theme find its way into the list.

Mario Bros. 2Koopa's ThemeFlying MarioDr. Mario

Most of the songs (others included are the Mario Bros. 2 Theme, Koopa's Theme, Flying Mario, and Dr. Mario Theme) have really slow starts but they do speed up resulting to a more enjoyable game. Koopa's Theme was hard...period.

With a huge number of Mario backgrounds available, it was just a bit sad seeing Mario characters set against plain white backgrounds. Hopefully, the next release (if there will be one) will have more colorful backgrounds.

Opening Grade

"Finally I am releasing v3, i believe this will be my final release of Anime Style, but i might come back with a mod of a different kind, still thinking about it though.. Hope you all like this version, there were reports of minor bugs with the pics, thats been fixed up now, and a couple pics were cleared up and replaced, Thx to RomTheStampede, If it wasnt for him, this mod would not be no wheres near as good. I personally started working on this because i wanted to play it myself, then i saw alot of people liked the 1st version, so i continued it, im glad that it came out as good as it is. I hope everyone likes this version, as it is my final release of Anime Style."

Hopefully this isn't the last we've seen of this mod. There are still a lot of anime out there that has very good music like Ghost in the Shell and NANA (Mika Nakashima and Tsuchiya Anna just plain rocks). I was ecstatic that, although version 1 and version 2 sparked a bout of heated discussions over anime, Monkeyboy1916 didn't get discouraged and continued to release new versions of this Anime Style mod for the PSP Revolution. Much appreciated.

Let us start with graphics. I can't even begin how vividly gorgeous the new backgrounds are.  I'd miss a few arrows, because I kept looking at the background. Maybe they're a little too good? I kid. I guess we have RomTheStampede to thank for that. This improvement in graphics is also evident in the selection screen. I like how the song titles are visual representations of the actual songs. Deep Forest by Do As Infinity has this nature feel to it, and how L'arc~en~Ciel is spelled, complete to the last tilde.
