Old-school gaming addicts, be aware! Developer Zx-81 has come up with the final release of the PSP7800 Atari homebrew emulator for the PSP with version 1.1.2. This latest build includes new hotkeys and major improvements with the program's running speed.

Season's greetings are coming in, courtesy of Zx-81. The developer has just announced the release of his special Christmas homebrew pack. Each pack contains a compilation of the dev's previous works, which ranges from homebrew applications to games, calculators, and emulators. More details await in the full article.

Homebrew developer Zx-81 has just rolled out a new build for his Atari 7800 emulator for Sony's PlayStation Portable, bumping it up to version 1.1.1. This is just a minor update compared to the previous build released just a couple of days ago that saw the addition of major features.

According to Zx-81, he saw it fit to release a new version because the sound was "too crappy" in PSP7800 v1.1. The full details and the download link can be accessed via the "read more" link below.

Homebrew developer Zx-81's port of ProSystem for the Sony PlayStation Portable, PSP7800, is now on version 1.1.0 and has IR Keyboard support, speed limiter function, improved audio, and other new features. The always reliable homebrew developer Zx-81 dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and released new versions for Atari emulators for the PlayStation Portable, PSP7800 and PSP7600. The first one is currently on version 1.0.8 while the latter is on version 1.0.5; both are compatible with PSP Slim.

PSP7800 is actually is a handheld port of the Pro System emulator for the Atari 7800 console which runs on Windows. It was originally written by Greg Stanton. Here's the changelog for Zx-81's PSP7800 v1.0.8:

• Compatible with custom firmwares 3.x and PSP-slim
• Add a simple intro splash screen
• Support iso8859-1 fonts in print text functions (might be useful to translate psp2600 menus in German, French...)
• Bug fix in file requester

Furthermore, PSP2600 is based on the emulator Stella v2.2 which was first coded by Aenea. The team is currently headed by David Voswinkel. The following improvements have been implemented by Zx-81 to v1.0.5 for the PSP version:

• Compatible with custom firmwares 3.x and PSP-slim
• Add a simple intro splash screen
• Support iso8859-1 fonts in print text functions (might be useful to translate psp2600 menus in German, French...)
• Bug fix in file requester

PSP homebrew coder zx-81 passed by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce that PSP7800 has been updated to version 1.0.6. In case the readers are wondering what this application is, it's a PSP-based homebrew emulator for running Atari 7800 console games.

It (PSP7800) is based on the Windows-based ProSystem emulator, originally created by Greg Stanton. As for the app's noted changes since its last release:

• Merge diff from ProSystem v1.2
• Add option to display frame rate
• New sound handler
• Improve speed
• New speed limiter function
• New background image
• Bug fix in file requester

As for currently detected bugs, QJ.Net Forum resident Danno noted that "text in 320 mode is garbled/corrupted in smooth render mode. see Pole Position II for example. Sound is robotic/clipping, like the sample rate is incorrect." We advise readers to check out the application's release thread in case they encounter more bugs.

As with the homebrew author's previous emulator projects, this application's installation and usage instructions are available in the bundle's README. Be sure to download the corresponding application version depending on your PSP's firmware - coders may also be interested in the application's source codes, also available for download (it's under GNU license). Update: Zx-81 has just updated his PSP7800 Atari 7800 emulator, bringing it up to version 1.0.7. The homebrew developer made some bug fixes because of some problems with the buggy v1.0.6 which Danno reported to him. This version's changelog is short and sweet:

Zx-81 has been steadily updating his Atari emulators for the PSP lately, with PSP2600 and the Atari 800/130/5200 emulators getting recent face lifts. Today it's the Atari 7800 emulator turn to be updated. This emulator is based on the ProSystem emulator for PC, which Zx says "is the best emulator of the Atari 7800 game console running on Windows". Many new features have been added in this release, so let's go straight to the changelog:

• New graphical functions with new smoother render modes. It uses the PSP GPU for rendering and although it does not run faster it is a lot smoother.
• Added a new full-screen option (render mode max)
• Rom selector support now recognises .rom and .bin as valid file extensions
• Save state dates are displayed in the emulator window (it's now easier to identify and to load the right save state slot)
• Multiple keyboard mapping feature added (Thanks to Pou-chan): You can now toggle between three different keyboard mapping using LTrigger and RTrigger keys
• Bug fix in Rom file requester

Emulation stalwart Zx-81 just released an updated version of his PSP2600. It seems that he's really focused on this one as we all know that he became known all throughout the homebrew community because of another program, PSP7800. But what's new with this program?

A lot, actually. But before we go into that, here's a little refresher for our new readers so we know we're all on the same page. PSP2600 is actually a PSP port of of Stella v2.2. Stella, on the other hand, is one of the best emulators of Atari 2600 game system. The program runs on various operating systems such as Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS/X, WinCE, OS/2, GP2X.

Now, probably the most important development with PSP2600 v1.0.2 is the bug fix in its Rom file requester. Accordingly, there have been instances of the PSP hanging with the first version whenever the rom list was big and already sorted. Anyway, you can read about all the fixes in the changelog provided below.

Lastly, take note that PSP2600 was developed on Linux for 1.5 FW. Zx-81 mentioned that he thinks that this would work as well for 2.x using Noobz's eloader.

Changelog:

• Merge the code from Stella v2.2 (replacing Stella v2.0 b1)
• Add several Anti-Flicker modes such as: Phosphor (from Stella v2.2), nice but CPU consuming; Simple, very fast and suitable for black background games; Average, it computes average colors between two frames
• Add paddle support, using Left / Right keys or analog Pad
• Fix the sound speed/accuracy (For a better quality, set the PSP clock to 333Mhz in the settings menu)
• Remove Gelon's name from graphics stuff (as he wants to)
• Add Aenea as the author of the first PSP port (I'm sorry for this mistake !)
