Boondocks

As anticipated, the recently released downgrader has paved the way for the PSP community to thrive. As a testament to that, we have nonstop barrage of homebrewed applications, games, and emulators, which you can always get from PSPU's 24-hour watch of everything PSP-related. With that said, we have here another great mod for PSPSMM's Jump Gunnar Jump.

Vettacossx has come up with this The Boondocks-themed mod for the said game. The Boondocks is an Adult Swim Cartoon featuring wild Freeman borthers Huey and Riley. They cause all sort of ruckus to their usually quiet (before they arrived at least) community in the South Side of Chicago. Since this game is inspired from the said characters, it follows gun-toting Riley (you), completely wrapped in his white, mafia goon-like suite, in a mission to spread chaos. Of course brother Huey won't sit around doing nothing to stop you.

The game mechanics are the same as before, you go around collecting fruits while shooting enemies and avoiding traps. In other words, it's the same old JGJ fun only this time with way cooler characters!

Note: You'll need to split the Eboot.PBP to enjoy playing this one. For the sake of our brothers who just downgraded their 2.50/2.60 PSPs to 1.50, and thus aren't very familiar with it, here's what you need to do:

Download PSPBrew (link below) and run the executable file inside it to install it in your computer. Connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable, and go to the ms0:/PSP/GAME (where ms0 refers to the memory stick of your PSP) directory. After doing that, open your extracted files (the game) and click on the Eboot.PBP icon. PSPBrew should then run, and the interface will pop in your screen signifying you've loaded the Eboot.PBP to the PSP. Click Save to install it.

After that, go back to the extracted files, copy everything except the EBOOT.PBP file, transfer to your PSP window, open the /GAMENAME folder (the one without the percent sign), dump the remaining files inside, and you're done!

Jump Gunnar, Jump!

Hardhat and the rest of his team from PSPSMM have released version 1.2 of Hardhat's amazing homebrew game Jump Gunnar, Jump! The game was originally made for the PS2Dev programming competition, but after not meeting the deadlines with a complete version Hardhat has continued to update his game with new levels and better graphics.

Here's whats new for this release:

- 30 levels included now
- Added doors; red, blue, green, yellow. keys are needed to open these doors.
- Added teleporters (activate with square)
- Updated enemy: Climber is replaced by a new Red bug (only graphics, behaviour stays the same)
- New terrain: slippery ground
- Added slippery slopes to engine, graphics and level editor.
- Fixed chests: open with bombs and fruit will pop out
- New sound effects for doors, teleporters and keys
- Updated level editor with new terrain types.
- Added icon to the EBOOT.PBP file.
- Added horizontal sliding (momentum)
- Animated evil duck (Anders)
- Shield now works.
- Almost a complete rewrite of the engine
- General improvements on the sprite sheet
- quicker stops on regular ground

You're all spoilt with choices, because not only does Jump Gunnar, Jump! come with all the above updates, but you can choose to use a Windows version or a PSP version - or even better both! Both releases include the source code and a level editor so feel free to create as many new maps or mods for this game as you can!
