PSP Video Converter v0.3 screenshot - Image 1Homebrew developer fif1973 has stepped into the light, along with a long-awaited update for the PSPVC (PlayStation Portable Video Converter) homebrew application some of you may have heard of before.

As the application's name implies, PSPVC is a Linux-based FFMPEG front-end video converter that helps users along on converting video files for the PSP's media player. One interesting feature that was mentioned is the application's ability to queue multiple video conversion tasks, each with its own set of parameters.

Version 0.3 of this application will convert videos to MPEG4/SP (all firmware), H264/AVC (firmware 2.0+), and H264/AVC 480x272 (firmware 3.03-OE-B+) formats. As for PSPVC's latest changelog:
  • Newer versions of X264 and FFMPEG (fif1973)
  • Freedesktop menu entry added (fif1973)
  • Support of H264/AVC 480x272 (fif1973)
  • Simplification of conversion parameters (fif1973)
  • Display an error message if the input file format is not a supported (fif1973)
  • Slovenian translation added (lenooh)
  • German translation added (Christian Stake)
  • Threads X argument added for multi-core ou multi-cpu usage(fif1973)
A file README awaits the Linux users downloading this file, which should be your first stop for further details. We'd like to thank fif1973 for the application, and lenooh for giving us the heads-up for this new release.

PSPVC - Image 2PSPVC - Image 1

PSPVC is a FFMPEG front-end GUI to help Linux users convert video files for the PSP. Now, fif1973 has released v0.2 of this video conversion utility today. I'm not well-educated in Linux-know how, but if your version of Linux can execute .sh files, then this video conversion program should work for you. This nifty little application also allows you to queue batch video conversions and set different parameters for each one.

PSPVC will convert ordinary video files into both MPEG4/SP (all firmwares) and H264/AVC (firmware 2.0+), and has a range of customizable options. You can edit the aspect ratio, video bitrate, audio bitrate and you can even choose an image to have as your thumbnail. The latest version of PSPVC also includes an estimated time of when conversion will finish.

Thanks for the tip gorka!
