Terminator: Salvation producer Dan Lin has
rights over the next Tomb Raider movie, and from what he says, it's going to be a reboot. Oh don't act all surprised - we heard earlier that the new movie will be getting a fresh start. More details on this though: the way Lin describes it, Lara's new movie - an origins-type of movie - won't be full-on action but will go deeper into the character. Kinda like Dark Knight, perhaps? Well, what ever the case, you can definitely scratch Angelina Jolie from the role - they're looking for someone younger. |

Sorry to dash any hopes out there, but it looks like Megan Fox won't be starring as Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider movie after all. According to her spokesperson at least. I hope they choose someone good though. Those are some pretty big.... shoes... to fill. |

Yeah, if she's not running around after the All-Spark, she's now going to hunt down other ancient relics. |

The game adaptation of the upcoming Beowulf movie will take the authenticity route like many other movie to game conversions. Ubisoft Entertainment has announced that Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins, Emmy Award winner Ray Winstone, Brendan Gleeson, and Sebastien Roche will be featured in voice and likeness in Ubisoft's Beowulf (Sony PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Microsoft Windows PC, Microsoft Xbox 360).To extend the story two dozen decades further than the movie's plot, Anthony Hopkins (Red Dragon, Amistad) will take on the role of King Hrothgar, while Ray Winstone (Cold Mountain, King Arthur) will embody the player as Beowulf. The role of Wiglaf will be taken up by Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter, 28 Days Later), and the character of Wulfgar (Christian) shall be Sebastien Roche's undertaking. The Beowulf video game is currently under development by Ubisoft's Tiwak Studios in cooperation with Shangri-La Entertainment and Paramount Pictures, and this news would appear to herald the near-completion of the game development process. Beowulf's release will coincide with the premiere of Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis' render of the tales of a legendary Viking hero, soon to be released on November 2007. It's hard not to be excited about this holiday season when great games are about to hit the shelves. We kid not when we say just looking at Ubisoft's line-up of upcoming titles will give any gamer a field day pondering which one to spend money on. If Assassin's Creed (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) and Haze can't get you riled up, others will.Ubisoft didn't include solid dates in the list sent through the press wire, but most are coming before 2007 ends. Here are the games:
Another line of games from Ubisoft is My Coach which has titles like My French Coach, My Spanish Coach, and My Word Coach that appear on Nintendo platforms to expand our vocabulary. There's also Petz that comes in all flavors of pet training for the DS, PS2, PC, and Wii. |

At this moment in time it's still not green-lit, but the signs are there. Paramount have talked about the film for a long time, and I've had meetings with them. They're willing to put a screenwriter on board. Angelina Jolie has an option to do a third movie. True enough, some of us might be raring to see Lady Croft on the big screen once again with or without Anniversary coming out. But of course, some of us know of the tendency of series installments to petter out towards the second or third movie... Cross your fingers! |

A brief report over at GamesIndustry.biz says that according to the Wall Street
Journal, games
retailer and rental specialist Blockbuster is in advanced talks to buy
online movie rental site Movielink. The online company is owned by a joint venture of MGM Studios, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. It could be picked up for under US $50 million in cash and stock. Movielink, along with Amazon and CinemaNow, was reported to be in talks with Sony late last year regarding movie downloads for PSP users. The service was due to launch early this year, and will surely be affected if Blockbuster acquires Movielink. |

We've already informed you folks that Transformers: The Game will be available for the PSP this summer and is set to be heavily based on the upcoming movie by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Given that the poster for the DreamWorks flick has Michael Bay prominently displayed as the movie's director, we're not entirely sure how loyal the film will be to the cartoon that we all love. PSP World reports that the good news is that the PSP version (being developed by Savage) will allow you to select from 20 playable Autobots and Decepticons, including fan favourites such as: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Bumblebee, and "I die from one blast to the chest" Ironhide. Other gameplay features for the PSP version are not clear at present but reports say that there are ad hoc/infrastructure multiplayer elements and bot customization features included. Reports also say that the key features will be similar to the PS3 version that will be out at the same time frame. Will the game be great? We're certainly hoping for it. We'll keep you updated as soon as more details about the game are made public. |
