Link poses with Sony products - Image 1 Spot the not - Image 1

We really don't know what to make of this. This was found by zomBdog at the Virgin Megastore in Paris, France.

Nintendo's poster boy Link is been surrounded by Sony products. PS2s are on his feet, and PSPs hang on his sword. There are DS games at his feet but this weird store centerpiece is a bit confused. Maybe this is a bit of stocking mistake or maybe a bit of Feng Shui on the store's part.

Anyway, let us know what you think.

Tekken"I like Jim Carrey, and I like video games. But does that mean I'll like a video game about Jim Carey" as the saying goes, and we were thinking just that when we picked up this news from the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) website.

It seems that around this November 4, there was an announcement that a Tekken movie's in the works. Quoting the site: "A high-octane action movie about a young man who discovers he holds a great power and must battle a team of elite fighters who will stop at nothing in order to get it from him."

We're not sure if this talks about Jin Kazama or his old man, Throw-Me-In-A-Volcano Kazuya Mishima, but it looks like Namco's wanting in on the silverscreen, more so after the recently released DOA movie (When the fans think it bombed despite Kasumi's presence, you know something's wrong). Well, it's too early to tell what's gonna happen since it's just a production announcement.

If it means anything, Charles Stone III, of "Mr. 3000" and "Drumline" fame, is directing this fight flick, with a story partly written by Martin Colleary, who also wrote the story for the original Tomb Raider flick in '01. And nope, there's no announcement on the cast of characters yet, but being the Tekken fanboys/girls we are, we couldn't resist coming up with our own list for the "dream team"
  • Lei Wulong = Jacky Chan
  • Marduk = Bas Ruten
  • Bryan Fury = Jean-Claude Van Damme (Matching egos)
  • King = Rey Mysterio/Batista
  • Lili = Britney Spears/Paris Hilton (?!)
  • Ling Xiaoyu = Zhang Ziyi
  • Feng Wei = Jet Li
  • Sergei Dragunov = Christian Bale/Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, remember?)
  • Bruce Irvin = Samuel L. Jackson
  • Paul Phoenix = Chuck Norris/Johnny Bravo
This is just a partial list, so feel free to comment on who else you want in. Go wild.

Nice flightGerman airline Germanwings and Sony are cooperating to offer something unique to customers of the Airline. Flights to Amsterdam, London, Barcelona, Prague, Rome or Paris have PSPs on board.

Yep, customers (sorry online translation is a bit weird, you can check out the source link we've got below for yourself) get access to a white PSPs with "Sony's Passport to" UMD on it. From what we understand, the user can get access to points of interest about their destination, maps, videos, etc.

It makes sense when you think about it; a white PSP is definitely better than a normal boring travel guide. Especially now that Sony is so popular in Europe (we jest, we jest with the link, all in good fun really).

Thanks to Simon for the heads up on this one.

Jack TrettonAlright guys, this is another one of those "What was he thinking?!" moments caught red-handed. You see, according to Sony VP Jack Tretton the, Nintendo DS sales have been trailing PSP sales for the last 17 months. That would all be well and good, if it wasn't for some cold-hard statistics suggesting otherwise. And well, those statistics suggest that in the last month, the DS outsold the PSP in North America by more than a whopping 130,000 units! Surprised? We've got a bigger one...In Japan, in the last week itself, the DS outsold the PSP by 108,368 units!

That's not all. You see, according to Tretton, "[Nintendo and their DS] are appealing to the same audience that Game Boy has always appealed to. They're potentially losing some of their core audience and they're not really expanding beyond that, and we think we're expanding into a completely new audience as we did with PlayStation ... we'll dip down to the younger consumer eventually, and we'll ultimately appeal to that vastly Earth wide audience we carved out with the original PlayStation."

Having die-hard support for the product of the company you work for is totally understandable; "Love thy own" as our ol' gramps used to say. So, time to hear what the most important input of all: what do you (as consumers) think?

Pink PS2

David Gardner, chief operating officer of games publishing giant Electronic Arts, has lashed out at the games industry for "failing women" at a conference in Edinburgh. Gardner said "We have all been talking about this for a long, long time." EA's own research has found that 40% of teenage girls played video games versus 90% of teenage boys and most girls lost interest in games within a year.

He also said that women are somewhat an undiscovered market and that if EA cracked the problem they "could add a billion dollars to its sales." Mr Gardner said one of the biggest problems was that the content aimed at women gamers was not appealing. "They don't want 'pink games. Thy are not trying to play girly games where Paris Hilton and Britney Spears go shopping and put make-up on. Those kind of things have not been that successful."

As you may know, Sony have just announced the Pink PSP and PS2 for European gamers. If EA's David Gardner is correct, their new move into the female gaming market will fail. If EA's figures are correct, this undiscovered market could double the gaming economy, boosting sales for all. Let's see how Sony's pink additions to their console line-up go when they are released; the PSP in October and PS2 in November.
