PlayStation Network - Image 1Sony has lofty goals for this fiscal year. Banking on the recent success of the PS3 Slim and the round of PS3 price cuts, Sony executive vice president Kaz Hirai has revealed that they plan to hit 13 million PS3s sold worldwide in FY09. They also expect the PlayStation Network to pull in revenues roughly thrice the profits they made last year. More after the jump.

Whew! - Image 1A lot of eyes were on Sony at the Media Investor Conference quite recently, where the company revealed their plans of world domination increasing profit in 2010. The interwebs got an unpleasant jolt of "WTF?!" yesterday when they spotted a line that read "new revenue stream from subscription" under PSN in the Sony presentation. SCE head Kaz Hirai quickly moves to soothe the angry mob, saying that the current PlayStation Network services will remain free.

PSP - Image 1Sony's giving out a big firmware double-whammy to celebrate the PS3's third birthday. With Firmware 3.10 coming out for the PS3 today, Sony's following it up with the release of FW 6.20 for the PSP tomorrow in Japan.

Hmmmm. - Image 1Tech blog Digital Foundry reports that sources "intimately involved with the alliances and deal-making within their sector" have effectively confirmed that Nintendo and nVidia are teaming up for the next DS. The report also mentions that Sony has formed an alliance with IMG for the PSP2, which is expected to be a "technological monster." While neither devices have been flat-out confirmed by both groups, Digital Foundry tosses around some tentative tech specs for the next generation of handheld gaming supposedly leaked by industry insiders.
