Team C+D just came out of the blue today and posted about kernel access on 2.80 (which only previously had user-mode access from the Tiff exploit). The second I read about this release, I grabbed my sweet laptop, ran in front of my Wii-boxing father, past my dusted PSP, over my NDS and into my sweet computer chair! Just a few moments ago, the C+D team announced that they have achieved kernel access on firmware 2.80, something of which had several people stirring and furiously to test if this was indeed true. Mathieulh, a respected member of the scene, took it upon himself to confirm the validity of this statement, and he comes out of it with a positive response - it works! This is just a "proof of concept" download, meaning that there is no downgarder yet and no kernel applications will work. However, with the scene demons pouncing on this already, it is only a matter of time before this is usable by the end-user. It currently runs through eLoader (after having compiled the eboot), so only 2.80 is supported (nothing greater). However, many have deducted from the initial testing that this may not be patched in the most recent update, 3.03 from Sony! However, as many of you know we can't run homebrew on 2.81 and beyond, so the concept and method is there, we just don't have the method of launching it! PS: Thanks for Moca for compiling the makefile into a usable eboot for our members who have a curious mind! Download: [2.80 Kernel Access Proof-of-Concept] Discuss: [Forums] |

For the guys who picked up Access_Denied's TIFF Periodic Table v2, we've got something for you. It looks like Access_Denied's been listening in on the buzz over his earlier creation, because he's released PSPeriodic Table v3. Okay, so he didn't release it himself, but he did get xploren over at the forums to let out the third installment of this Periodic table. And for those asking, yes - he's decided to make the most out of the 2.8 eLoader, and has converted this app into C format (it took about 10 minutes). Aside from this major tweak, Access_Denied's also added these other extra features:

For the PSP, iPod and Mobile phone videophiles out there, we've just picked news on a video converter you might wanna check out. ADS just announced the release of their new InstantVideo To-Go product, which allows for easy conversion to the H.264 (.mp4) format your PSPs and iPod can gobble up easy. For use between your PC and your portable device, this USB key speeds up the painfully long download time you guys have probably experienced when trying to download your LOTR Trilogy into your iPod or PSP. ADS also claims that a five-hour encoding session can be done in as fast as 20 minutes. The other good news is that this hardware-based encoder should be easy to use even for guys encoding for the first time - most of the process is already automated, with it being able to handle the following formats: MP4, MP3, AVI, WMV, MOV, RM, JPG, and TIFF. The bad news: Better start saving up, as this little device will go for US$ 79.95 - about the price of one Blu-Ray game for the PS3. Unless you're one rich dude with tons o' dough to throw around, then go ahead and get one. |

No French jokes here, folks. Only a lot of gaming goodness. The French homebrew group known as Team 280 released the latest version of Mastermind, now called Mastermind v1.0 . From the 0.5 version that used TIFF, to new graphics and support for 1.00, 1.5 and 2.xx firmwares in the pre-1.0 versions (can we call it 0.75?), you can now call Team 280's Mastermind a dual-language puzzler for the PSP. As with any game of Mastermind, your job is to figure out the hidden combination of colors by a process of trial and error. In Mastermind 1.0, you have ten tries to figure out the combination and the program will respond as to whether your assumptions are right or wrong. Guess right and you get points for a running score total. Best of all, they have English and French interfaces for this version, so you don't have to wonder what the interface is talking about. Here's Team 280 directions on playing the game on your PSP: Combination Inputs:
Sound : Stop or play music Start : Help Menu A white light shows you that one color is well-placed, while a black light shows that one color is not well-placed. There are currently two versions of the game out: a 1.00 & 2.xx version using Kriek eLoader, and a 1.5 version. Feel free to pick up the one that suits your needs, and make sure to give Team 280 props on a fun game and Cloos for some sweet Mastermind music. Just make sure you know what you're doing so you don't brick your PSP, and feel free to check the discussion thread linked below if you want to ask any questions. Enjoy! We haven't seen much of XArt in a rather long while, but he does seem to be making himself quite busy these days. One of the things he's been doing is a new Tetris game for the PSP but as a solo project this time. As he mentions it, Tetris 1.0.x is written from the ground up. It even has a Mac installer for Apple people to use on their computers. That being said, we're putting up XArt's Tetris1.0.x for download, though it is not without its problems. For the most part, newcomers to our homebrew community might have a problem with this file as there's no readme or notes for installation. The tiff files indicate that it should work on FW 2.80, though you'll have to check to see if it works on other firmware versions or if you can load it through other apps. Hopefully, XArt can offer some answers and a readme soon, so everyone in the homebrew scene can have a go at more Tetris goodness. In the meantime, if you have a tip for readers who want to install it but don't know how, put a comment here or on the forum discussion thread below. Enjoy! Wow, PSP homebrew dev tomtomtom sure is one hardworking guy. You see, mnuhaily22 from the DCEmu forums requested a special version of his TIFF homebrew game, Tetris. And well, tomtomtom, nice guy that he is, heeded muhaily22. And the result? (insert drumroll) A Tetris game that has background music in it. And you know what's the best part? You can get the said version here. Now, tomtomtom didn't mention any significant changes or anything. A changelog isn't included in this version as well, so apart from the background music addition, we're not expecting other modifications from this one. It sure is still worth a try, though. After all, nothing beats a good Tetris game (goes on a trip down memory lane...). Anyway, I'm going to stop blabbering now before I go all nostalgic here and divulge embarrassing secrets about my childhood. Do check out tomtomtom's cool homebrew out, though!
