Theketchupman and Team Wildcard has released Recovery LE for 3.71 M33 v2, a VSH plug-in that should allow users to modify multiple options on their PSP including the CPU Speed and its registry. If you've been using an older version of this application, the developers have implemented multiple changes that make this a worthy upgrade. Aside from the fact that this homebrew supports the 3.71 M33 v2 firmware, it also enables units to save the brightness settings when shut off. Another novel feature is the addition of an autodetect feature which can establish if it's installed on a PSP Slim or the original PSP (with or without kernel 1.5). If kernel 1.5 is detected by this option, the application should allow you to change the kernel from 1.5 to 3.71 and back without having to reboot the handheld. Here are the rest of the changes as copy pasted from the developer's changelog:

Rising quickly among the ranks of the PSP homebrew scene is Team Wildc*rd (or Team Wildcard), known for their work on 3.40 LE custom firmware. Website Exophase had a chat with the team to know more about their philosophies, friends, and woes. The folks behind Team Wildc*rd got the group together just this July. After Dark_AleX made his farewell, a group of experienced and capable developers decided to take the torch and reverse engineer 3.40 OE firmware. Dark_AleX helped out by indirectly providing the team with 3.10 OE's source code through Mathieulh when the 3.40 OE project was 90% done. Some would remember Team M33 giving thanks to Wildc*rd for features that appeared on the former's 3.52 M33 firmwares. "We pride ourselves on working alongside M33 rather than against them, and are extremely grateful for their recent support after the source code leak," said Wildc*rd. When asked why the team is dedicating effort to the development scene, Wildc*rd replied that they'll "continue unlocking the true potential of the PSP until Sony do it themselves." This is in regard to Sony's attempts to keep homebrew out, which is wrong in Wildc*rd's books. The leak of reversed OE firmware's code generated some buzz and left the team unhappy. "We felt our privacy and security had been completely violated, and considered ending the project," they said. Fortunately for the homebrew scene, Wildc*rd hasn't expressed any desire to retire any time soon. Everyone waiting for 3.52* have their hopes well-placed. If given a chance to get up close with Sony, Team Wildc*rd wants to suggest a "homebrew SDK and allow usermode homebrew to be loaded." While this will enable homebrew without having to resolve to piracy, the team admits that some people won't be satisfied and simply won't stop looking for exploits. The Pandora Battery unbricker from Noobz and Team C+D seems to have ignited a surge of inspiration for our PSP homebrew developers. theketchupman, for example, has just dropped by our PSP forums informing us a new build for his project, LE recovery for M33 bringing the version up to v 0.9. For the uninitiated, this program is a recovery tool that provides its users with a number of useful features such as screenshot functions and various plugin options. Here's the changelog:

(Editor's Note: QuickJump QuickPeek's 8th issue marks the second month since this feature came into being. Again, thanks to everyone, the support has been very overwhelming. I won't be saying much this time, I'll just be leaving you with the same quote we put up last week: My loyalty for [insert console/company] ends, where my loyalty to videogaming begins. Happy reading!) Two months, eight weeks, 62 days, 1,488 hours, (you get the drift) - that's how old QuickJump QuickPeek is. We know it's not much, but judging from the sweet moments it had with you guys, we get the feeling we're all taking part in something special. Anyway, enough of the dramatics, we're here to bring you news right? And that's exactly what we have in this collection. Top stories from our gaming systems of choice. Dig in. The full issue awaits after the jump! |

Word from tipster EXTER had led us to an official statement by Team Wildcard - more officially branded as Team Wildc*rd - who in their own respects have done much for the PSP hhomebrew community. PSP homebrew developers and followers already know the story behind the custom firmware source code leak, but the release of such code had obvious ramifications: developers now had the opportunity to release rip-off CFWs as they saw fit. "Out of respect to the devs that worked so hard on this source and also out of respect for Dark_AleX, Team Wildc*rd politely requested that this source be used for educational purposes only and not for public releases," said the representative from Team Wildcard. But this statement prompted the need to tackle PSPGen's Ketchup (theketchupman in QJ.NET's Forums) and his use of the code for his recent releases. It's no secret to Wildcard that Ketchup took his code direct from their source code for his release, which brought significant concern to them. "It is not that we do not respect Ketchup's work; on the contrary, we were quite impressed with what he had achieved. What we do not wish however, is for the source to be used," claimed the team. They would allow the reversal of code from their .prx binaries to be used, because after all, that was how they came up with their own custom firmware code. "We completely reversed DA's PRX's rather than using his direct source. ... Even though members of Team Wildcard wish to remain anonymous, there are members that know DA personally and we can assure you we have his blessings," added Wildcard. Contrary to opposite beliefs, Team Wildcard never had aspirations to release the source code, but due to mischievous circumstances, they had to act. And perhaps because of these conflicting views, some developers will not adhere to Wildcard's sincere call. "We cannot force anyone to do whatever we want. ... We cannot force you not to, we can only ask for you to respect our wishes," responded Wildcard. Nevertheless, Wildcard still hopes to avoid the release "ripped clones" of CFWs. "I believe we are respecting [Dark Alex'] wishes that way. [Ketchup] may release a recovery, only if it's based on our prx and not the source code," the representative concluded. |

(Editor's Note: Rolling out the seventh issue of QuickJump QuickPeek! Hope you'll enjoy this one as much as the six copies before it. We do have some clarifications to make though. Some of you folks have been wondering why this particular feature carries a mixed fanboyish tone in it. We'll just remind you guys that the folks taking care of the recap are members of the team they're writing for. Naturally, these guys believe in the blog they write for and thus passionately support them. Just like the console they support, they try to outdo each other. It's all in the name of good clean fun though! And make no mistake about it, we're all fans of the industry in general, so let me share with you a common QJ writer motto: My loyalty for [insert console/company] ends, where my loyalty to videogaming begins. Happy reading!) Just when we thought the month of August couldn't get any busier, we were slammed by a barrage of heavy hitting updates the last couple of days. And to think August is barely two week's old! Just how active have the gods of videogaming been past week? Try going over this - PSP emulates NDS games now; Sony rumored to acquire Rockstar; Halo 3's breaking sales records; Wii sales inching closer to Xbox360; and more. See what we mean? Luckily, this issue covers all that and more in one neat package, so you can all view the week that was in one sitting. What are you waiting for? Dig in to QuickJump QuickPeek's seventh ish! The full issue awaits after the jump! |

Homebrew developer Downgrader">Bob Joe has rolled out a new build for PSP Upgrader/Downgrader v1.11. Note that this software makes it easier for people to install firmware on their PlayStation Portable units. This latest version adds support for Team Wildcard">Team Wildcard's recently release, 3.40 LE PSP Custom Firmware. In addition to that, the program now has an automatic update check in the options menu. The new additions are very convenient and perhaps a good reason to upgrade your older version. So far, Bob Joe has only come out with a lite version of his update, so its a pretty small download and well worth the time if you're upgrading or downgrading your PSP. Whether this is the first time you're using this program or not, remember to go over all the documentation and Readme.txt file before doing anything to avoid any unwanted mishaps with your PSP. We're already driving into the weekend, expecting to hit the usual slowdown on updates, however, recent developments in the QJ forums (thanks for the tip, Glynnder!) have made us think that this is probably one of the homebrew community's most intense weeks in a long time. The OE source code, Team Wildcard's 3.40 LE CFW, Dark AleX actively talking to Sony, and now... a Nintendo DS Emulator on the PSP.For all intents and purposes though, and right off the bat, we'd have to say that we can't host the download. One of the main reasons is that the emulator taps into the BIOS - thus leading to its illegality - and the second reason being its infantile stage. We hear the emulator isn't working all that perfect; running games ends up in lock ups and glitches. So right now, we'd just have to report about its existence, and for the sake of discussion, talk about the implications. One of the biggest hurdles here, of course, is that, how would a DS emulator work without the DS' biggest features: the touchscreen? The experience of getting to play the real Nintendo DS will be watered down in an emulated Nintendo DS on the PSP, but see, isn't that what emulators are defined as? We know you have a lot of questions, proclamations, and out bursts of joy. So we'll leave you with two options: 1) you may comment below, or 2) proceed to the forum thread for an in-depth discussion. However. Please bear in mind that we will not tolerate any links, information, or other details on where or how to get ROMs and illegal files. Many thanks to Glynnder for sending in the tip! wwwqwerty informed us of some interesting goings-on in the 3.52 M33 firmware scene. It seems that Ketchup, PSPGen's site admin (and also a programmer), has adapted the recovery mode from 3.40 LE for use on Team M33's 3.52 M33 firmwares. Ketchup, with the assistance of the sources provided by the Team Wildcard which we thank here, thus adapted it plug-in to the 3.52 M33. It thus converted it plug-in and with added the functions NO-UMD which, in 3.40, was limited to a simple option ON/OFF. To understand how to use it though, you'll want to check out the original post on PSPGen, as the file doesn't have a readme. Just use an online translation service to understand how it works.
