USB goodies - Image 1ZKL54 gave us word of a new modification for 3.10 OE-A that's useful out there for those folks who always worry about space constraints. Smashly's USB Mod v4b for 3.10 OE-A will actually help you save on space on your memory stick by enabling you to stream files from your PC via the USB.

According to the developer, this is actually an unofficial update of TheBuzzer's modification for SE-C. If you remember him, he also made a useful and rather prolific application known as the GUI DEVHOOK Launcher, so you can bet that this little modification's base programming came from a great app maker.

Of course, using this might sound like a bit of a hassle, since the main reason you probably use the PopStation is to play on the go. Despite this, USB Mod may save you a lot of trouble when it comes to accessing certain files on the fly, though we wonder just how well this would work with PopStation.

That being said, remember to check the readme for instructions so you don't muck up your PC or your PSP, grab a long USB cable, and see what magic you can make with this little app.

Devhook launcherThe last we heard of Chunglam was way back in the tail-end of October when he just released version 1.65c of his creation, the Devhook Launcher/ VSHEX Mod. But, lookie here, Chunglam is back at the scene, doing what he does best - and that is dishing out updates for this app. This time, he released version 1.65c3 of this app.

First time QJ reader? New PSP owner? Just in case everything in this article looks like Cuneiform to you, well let us give you a picture of what this app is. Basically, Chunglam's Devhook Launcher/ VSHEX Mod is a spin-off of TheBuzzer's Devhook GUI Launcher Mod. Chunglam doesn't want you to be in the dark as to how to use this app so he provided a detailed readme, Mini FAQ, and history texts that you should all read - regardless if you're a first-time user or not.

With this update, Chunglam is indeed keeping up with the times as he just added cheat device">Edison Carter's Cheat Device 1.0d PRX for GTA-LCS and Cheat Device 2.1a PRX for GTA-Vice City Stories. Before we end this, we would like to thank BobJoe for the tip. So with that, let's jump to the changelog.

Version 1.65c3
  • Added Cheat Device 1.0d PRX for GTA-LCS by Edison Carter
  • Added Cheat Device 2.1a PRX for GTA-VCS by Edison Carter
  • Added modified MP3 player PRX by AhMan, please note this is not same prx as the mp3 prx comes with IRSHELL
    • This is a modified version of the opensource mp3 prx for irshell. It will play mp3 files from ms0:/PSP/MUSIC (no subdirs). It has random and sequential play modes.
    • Controls
      • Note + Left Trigger = pause/resume playback
      • Note + Right Trigger = next song
      • Note + Square = switch playback mode between random and seqeuntial
  • Added USB Host File System server/driver for Windows
  • Updated CW Cheat to 0.1.6
  • Updated Cheat Master 0.6 alpha
  • Updated systemctrl_dh4se.prx from 2.71SE-B3
Vshexmod 1.26
  • Added "Add-on Menu" to enable/disable "CW Cheat", "Cheat Master, "Cheat Device LCS", "Cheat Device VCS", "IRSHELL" and "MP3 Player" in game mode, use "SELECT" key to toggle  enabled/disabled mode. Please note "IRSHELL" option is only for IRSHELL 2.2SE.

devhookchunglamFrom version 1.65b, Chunglam is now up and about reminding us that the Devhook Launcher/VSHEX Mod ain't over till the whole dev thingy is over. We've counted just a little less than a week and bang! Another update called version 1.65c. This time it's quite a smaller one though, and here's the changelog:
  • Compatible with 2.71SE-B
  • Added Korean font (generated from TrueType font) and language file by friends from Korea
  • Added Chinese game title macro "names.big5" by friend from Taiwan
  • Added Simplified Chinese help file by CrUmp Zhao
  • Updated Portuguese Brazil language and help file by Pender666
As we've taken account in the past blogs dedicated to Chunglam's Devhook Launcher, the mod is actually a bit like a spin-off of TheBuzzer's Devhook GUI Launcher Mod. The developer stresses that this is mainly for Korean users. Anything you want to know on how to install and how to use the mod can be found on the Readme.txt file. Also check out the mini-faq.txt if you got questions that Chunglam might just be able to answer. Thanks and keep 'em good stuff coming, Chunglam!

Looks like somebody is really slaving to perfect an almost perfect app. Showing the grit, determination and the skills that a model homebrew developer should possess, Chunglam has once again updated his mod of TheBuzzer's DevHook GUI Launcher. A couple of days after releasing the DevHook Launcher/ VSHEX Mod version 1.64, he has once again made us gush with his busy-bee ways and updated it to v.1.64a. Truly, the homebrew community is loving this mod and with the constant updates and great features, who wouldn't?

DevHook Launcher/VSHEX Mod

Again, we find it hard to believe that this is the first time that you'll be reading about this, that is if you are an ardent QJ reader. But if for some insane reason you've skipped reading about this app or this is your first time to land on QJ territory, then we suggest that you catch up on your reading. The dev has provided a very detailed mini FAQ and readme text that comes with the download. We also suggest reading our past coverage of the app so as you'll have a clearer picture of what you're getting and how to maximize its functions.

In version 1.64, he has added firmware 2.71 SE-A support (including 2.71 NANDFLASH emulation mode) among many other improvements. The launcher and VSHEXMOD also had their share of ample changes. This time around, there was no reported change in the VSHEXMOD, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Let's jump to the changelog shall we? And on a more personal note, keep up the good work and spunk, Chunglam. We hope to hear from you soon.

Changelog for Version 1.64a
  • Updated French language file and added French help file translated by Guilouz
  • Added Chinese (GB) name macro "names.cn" contributed by angelspsp / eavlvoe
  • Updated name macro "names.eng" to 1067 game titles by sanaell
  • Added Dutch language file translated by X-tra
Launcher
  • Fixed incorrect icon display for some games (Exit2, Myst), please remove those incorrect *.vsh icons from "ms0:/dh/thumbnail"
  • Fixed non-functional autoboot for fw2.71 version

DevHook Launcher/VSHEX Mod

We think homebrew developer, TheBuzzer, would be so proud of fellow dev, Chunglam. Merely a few days after releasing the DevHook Launcher/VSHEX Mod 1.63a, Chunglam has once again informed us that he has come up with version 1.64 of this DevHook GUI Launcher Mod. The DevHook GUI Launcher was the creation of TheBuzzer- hence the reason why he might be so proud of his fellow dev's conquests.

If this is the first time you're reading about this app, it wouldn't hurt you guys to read over the mini FAQ and readme files provided with the download. We don't want you inducing harm to your PSP or suffering any inconvenience, so read on, it's good for you.

In the small span of time ever since the release of v1.63a, the good developer has obviously tinkered around the app that resulted to many new additions in this versions, so let's go over them now.

Changelog
  • Added fw2.71SE-A support, including 2.71(NANDFlash) emulation mode
  • Added dummy XMB-BOOT.cso
Launcher
  • Added background image support to fw2.71 version
  • Now launcher will not save icon png file to MS, it will directly load icon from ISO/CSO file. You can remove all previous generated *.png files from "ms0:/dh/thumbnail". The *.vsh files still needed for Vshexmod.
  •  Added help screen, press SQUARE to display help.
Vshexmod 1.24
  • Auto extract disc ID from ISO/CSO file if no disc ID embedded in file name. It is still recommended to pre-extract disc ID in Launcher mode to smooth file browsing operation.
  • Now the cover bitmap files can be packed into a single CSO file "covers.cso" in folder "ms0:/dh/covers"
Please note Launcher in folder "ms0:/psp/game" is ready for fw1.50 and fw2.71(HEN&SE), you DON'T need copy any file to "ms0:/psp/game150""

DevHookLauncher

Earlier today, Chunglam released his Devhook Launcher/VSHEX Mod 1.63. It's a revival of TheBuzzer's Devhook GUI Launcher Mod. There's been quite a little mix-up though, and Chunglam apparently noticed a little bug for firmware version 2.71. Good thing he's been able to release Devhook Launcher/VSHEX Mod 1.63a right away. We're not really sure what bug he's fixed, exactly. Nothing was indicated on the changelog. But maybe one of the comment's posts from the previous article can help us:

? slightly confused ? says: "for some reason when I switch to 2.71 using this my x button doesn't seem to work???? can somebody help me out????"

It might seem like a minor fix to you, but we're thinking that maybe Chunglam had done more tinkering in his homebrew and fixed other stuff. Now, even if you've already downloaded the 1.63 version, it'd still be a good idea to upgrade it to 1.63a. Whether you're on FW 2.71 or not, having the most recent homebrew is definitely no loss.

Once again, we are stressing the importance of reading the .txt files in the zipped folder. There's a comprehensive FAQ and a history of changes that you can refer to, so please, if you're unsure of how to proceed, take a look at the resource files.

DevHook Launcher Mod v1.61a

Developer Chunglam has just released an update to his DevHook Launcher Mod, which is currently at v1.61a. Since there aren't too many launcher mods around, updates like these are truly a good thing to hear about, especially since modder TheBuzzer has also decided to lie low at the moment.

For v1.61a, the creator of this mod has added the following things:
  • Added 12x12 character font in GB encoding format
  • Added sample macro file "name.eng" for vshexmod with more than 350 game id and game name in English. You can change the name to whatever text you like, just make sure rename ISO/CSO file begin with game id and select correct font in vshexmod. Please rename "macro.sample" in "ms0:/dh" to "macro.txt" to activate macro function.
  • Updated "mini-faq.txt" with information about CSO cache system
  • updated Italian language file by hispanico
  • Updated Spanish language file by Charlie52
  • updated French language file by sanaell
  • Updated French language file by Guilouz
  • Updated Chinese language file
Vshexmod v1.18a
  • Added macro function for ISO/CSO file name.
  • For example, you rename "Bleach.cso" to "[USAS-40011]Bleach.cso" and add below text line to "ms0:/dh/macro.txt"
  • [UCAS-40011]name="Bleach - Heat the Soul" will make vshexmod show the .cso file as "Bleach - Heat the Soul" and also try to look for cover bitmap file name start with "USAS-40011" or "[USAS-40011]"
  • Improved "Copy to MS" performance
  • Added startup welcome text mode to prevent cracking sound when emulation start
  • Switching CPU/BUS clock using "HOME+SELECT" combo key even in single key mode
  • Added show cover picture function, save cover picture from gamespot in 24bit/32bit bitmap to "ms0:/dh/covers" with same name as ISO/CSO/DAX file plus .bmp extention. The bitmap file size should be under 100k. For example, cover bitmap file for "game.cso" should be "game.cso.bmp".
  • Added ".dax" extension filter
  • Now the font list is gnerated from font files in "ms0:/dh/res"
  • Specify character encoding in language file to make sure vshexmod use right font. For example, if you want to use simplified Chinese, add following line to your language file [vsh_setup]charcode=GB
This mod comes with a comprehensive readme file as well as an additional mini-FAQ that Chunglam has prepared, so be sure to check those out, especially if this will be your first time using a DevHook mod.

Chunglam's DevHook Launcher Mod

Chunglam revives TheBuzzer's Devhook GUI Launcher Mod with his recent release of his DevHook Launcher Mod v1.61. If you haven't heard of TheBuzzer, then you probably haven't given your DevHook a makeover yet. Together with 1337_pyro, he's deemed by many as having made the best DevHook mods around. Unfortunately, he has decided to call it quits with the mod and focus instead on other projects.

Such being the case, it's a wonderful thing that other developers like Chunglam have continued releasing their own version inspired by TheBuzzer's mod. You could say he has continued on the legacy DevHook Launcher Mod.

Changelog:
v1.61
  • Added French language file translated by Guilouz
  • Added EBOOT.PBP for firmware 1.00
  • Updated CW CHEAT to 0.1.3b
Launcher
  • Changed the language file folder to "ms0:/dh/lang", please remove "*.lang" files from "ms0:/dh" if upgrade from old version.
  • Fixed the "UMD Disc" freeze bug if there is sub-folder inside "ms0:/iso"
Vshexmod v1.13
  • Fixed switching back to internal font bug after first usage of Font10x10.SJIS
  • Added language file support in XMB, please use "Font10x10.SJIS" if selected language is out of ASCII code range
  • Improved the CSO cache system. Now the CSO cache file is copied to "ms0:/iso/cache" and the CSO usage index capture is more accurate.
  • Added incremental "Copy to MS" logic. If the cache file is already exist, "Copy to MS" function will only copy new captured contents since last copy operation.
Thanks for this mod Chunglam. Much appreciated.

Screenshot for GUI Devhook Launcher v3.3 Final

TheBuzzer has just released what may be the final version for his DevHook mod, GUI DEVHOOK Launcher v3.3, so check out the screenshot and download the file for your PSP. Skins for this mod was provided by 1337_pyro. Dubbed by users of previous versions as one of the nicest DevHook mods around, GUI DEVHOOK Launcher is easily customizable with lots of options available for those who wants to make their own skins.

As TheBuzzer is considering making v3.3 the final version because of the low response he got for the previous releases, you might want to give out your appreciation if you happen to like this mod. Who knows, your comments just might change the developer's mind and we'll keep on seeing better and better versions of this app.
