If games were a work of art, then homebrew game Morback would definitely qualify for gallery exhibition. Morback version 0.1 is a game of Tic Tac Toe. Artist Oxbow151, together with coder Spimort, took the simplistic concept of wrestling with Xs and Os and peppered it with amazing art worthy of critical praise - even for such an early build. For now, the game tasks players with the simple rules of Tic Tac Toe, though the authors have much more in store for their new project. |

Before video games, people still knew what it was like to have an absurd amount of free time in their hands, and they had to come up with ways on how to kill the excess amount off before boredom did them in. The classic game of Tic Tac Toe was but one of these handy distractions, and with the help of Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew developers Kwastie and Feddemaster, the cycle has come full circle with their piece of home-cooked minigame goodness, PSPXnO. The point of the game is simple. Two players on one PSP have to take turns putting either crosses or naughts in a three-by-three grid. Whoever gets three in a row, either diagonally, horizontally, or vertically wins the round. Sounds easy? Yes. Addictive? Very. Here's an excerpt from the release thread: Controls

Tic-tac-toe is probably the oldest yet most effective past-time ever invented (not to mention the simplest way to pwn someone). Effective because you don't really need a lot of resources to enjoy it. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that there have been numerous attempts to port it to the PSP. Stvnkch has just paid another homage to the old-school pen and paper game by releasing another version of Tic-tac-toe. The homebrew's simply titled "Stvnkch's lua Tic Tac Toe" and is currently intended to be played by two people (heck, who plays Tic-tac-toe alone anyway?). Stvnkch is not keen on adding AI for one-player mode, but he's encouraging others to code it for him, so long as you note that it's still his game. Here's a list of the controls: X= place X O= place O triangle = play again Square = no HOME = exit Analog stick = to move the tile Stvnkch says this has been tested on 3.10 OE-A2 and has been proven to work fine. We've also tried it out on PSP firmware 1.50 and it also loads perfectly. Please check the readme inside the downloadable file for more details. Download: Tic Tac Toe (Lua) by Stvnkch |

Is 2D Tic Tac Toe just too easy for you? If you've tried the others, now check this one out. That's the best way we can describe 3D Tic Tac Toe, it's just like playing in 2D but much more challenging. How would you feel if Gran Turismo for the PSP was in 2D? Not very happy we'd presume, so why stay in the past and play 2D Tic Tac Toe? LMelior from our forums has released his trial game for an isometric tiling system he made on Lua today. This great little homebrew game includes both 3x3x3 and 4x4x4 grids as well as a fairly good AI that will most probably beat you if you haven't played 3D Tic Tac Toe before. There aren't any sounds but you can listen to the sound of your brain ticking over trying to beat the AI on a 4x4x4 grid on the hardest difficulty setting - It's like music to your ears.
