Aspiring golfers will finally get to experience what it's like to be trained by Tiger Woods' own personal coach Hank Haney in EA Sports' latest game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. This week's PSN Europe update wasn't all beefy, but folks on this side of the Atlantic as that can't be said for the North American DLC list. Looks like Mario and Sonic aren't headed for video game retirement anytime soon, as they're still at the top of their game. The Olympic Games that is. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is still persisting in the UK as the top selling game for the week ending on March 1, only getting knocked off the top spot a few times since it landed there last December. Peter Moore definitely has some ambitious plans in store for EA Sports. With all the new changes he's implemented ever since he took over EA's sports division last July, he mentions that he plans to make EA Sports a visible brand in the sports industry itself someday. Despite an 18% loss in revenue last quarter as compared to last year's, Electronic Arts is confident the launch of a number of holiday titles and an upcoming restructuring would put them back in the game. The changes will focus on efficiency and cost-cutting. Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter remains positive about the future of the studio, saying: "They appear to have costs under control and revenue growth is solid."

 

FIFA 08 had remained on the top spot of the Chart Track UK ladder ever since it dethroned Halo 3 (for the week ending October 6). Now, the football mogul is finally kicked right out of the top spot by... drumroll, please... another football game. Sega's Football Manager 2008 for the PC and Mac OS X platforms has debuted at #1 for the week ending October 20.

Former king FIFA 08 (PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and DS) landed not so far away at the second spot, which is followed by two new entrants in the UK charts. The Orange Box (Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal) from Valve and Electronic Arts takes the third spot, while the Nintendo DS' The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass clocks in at fourth place. Halo 3 caps the top five spots.

Yes, it seems that Europeans do love their football. Heck, the sports simulation title is even scheduled to hit the PSP sometime this Christmas in the form of Football Manager Handheld 2008. Anyone wanna place their bets as early as now that the PSP version will eventually claim the top spot once it gets released?

  

Hot off the big BioShock launch last week, more great games are coming to stores this week. Particularly eye-catching is that wham-banger Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. There's also a new Naruto game coming out on the PSP, and Stranglehold will smash in to the PC and Xbox 360 scenes.

Fighting games, racing titles and sports sims, as well as casual puzzle games are also in the mix. There's something for everyone, so dig in:

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The latest sequel to one of the most decorated game franchises of all time is due out tomorrow exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Samus is back and this time, the Wii Nunchuk is her toy of choice. Old moves and new weapons converge to create a new mind-blowing experience for the genre.

Yet another EA Sports game is about to hit the shelves. Before your woods get hot for that tee shot, we've got a video found on Gametrailers that takes an in-depth look at some of the new mechanics Tiger Woods PGA Tour '08 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will be introducing.

New to the franchise is the grid line feature when putting, something we've seen from other golf games like Pangya. Another worthy addition that looks very promising is the Player Confidence system. All your shots will be recorded, and your future performance will be affected by your previous attempts. If you've been nailing the green from a certain place on the hole, your player will be more confident in taking shots from there.
