A variation of the Activision logo - Image 1In the video game industry, it's important not to rest on one's laurels. Activision probably knows this. In spite of the fact that its Q4 and fiscal year 2008 financial reports have shown encouraging results, the company is already planning its next ventures in the near future. This was evident in the company's recent conference call. More lucrative news follows after the jump.

As current top publisher, Activision kept a strong momentum at the Leipzig convention this week, announcing a trio of delights for gamers around the world. In addition to revealing the release dates of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PlayStation 3, Windows PC on DVD, Xbox 360), the publisher also unveiled the international track list for Red Octane's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii) and raised curtains on a new game for the James Bond franchise.

November 5 is the shipping date for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare toward Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 consoles and Windows PCs worldwide, while a Nintendo DS version was hinted to be coming soon. Guitar Hero fans in non-U.S. and UK-specific regions will receive a collection of tracks from artists all around the world, which include the following (and not necessarily limited to):

Here comes the Spider-Man 3 launch trailer video. What more can we say? Honestly, there's nothing more. Everybody who has a console (PS3, 360, PC, Wii, PSP, PS2, DS, GC) has been waiting for this video game to arrive. While it has been topping most requested titles lists already, it is without a doubt that Spider-Man 3 will be bigger when the movie finally takes off.

In this launch trailer video, we see the words "Unleash the power of the black suit" and we can't help but agree. And don't get the impression that this is just one of your usual, needs-to-be-done movie-video game tie in. Both Activision and Treyarch have been talking about the title's gameplay, features and how far this franchise has reached in terms of development.

There. We guess, after all, we did say something more. Meanwhile, enough with the talking, and enjoy the trailer video.

The website. The first part of the Spider-Man 3 game website has launched, and this means you have the opportunity to be one of the founding members of Spidey's Web at sm3thegame.com. Spidey's Web is the hub of the Spider-Man 3 game community and will eventually feature:
  • News
  • Exclusive assets
  • Message boards
  • Contests
  • Developer blogs
  • And much more (all websites say that, but this one actually delivers)
Join the contest. The first contest has launched and it's a big one. By becoming a member of Spidey's Web, you'll be entered into a contest to win an all-expense-paid trip to Activision's Santa Monica offices to be one of the first people to play an early version of Spider-Man 3 prior to the game's launch. Sounds good.

Spider-Man 3 is developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. This third-person action adventure game should be out this May (at least in the U.S.; we still have to verify the European and North America dates). Judging by the pretty logos on the bottom of the website and the end of the game trailer, Spider-Man 3 is webslinging across the Xbox 360, the PS3, the PSP, the Wii, the DS, and the PC.

Call of Duty 3

Activision has revealed some juicy info on its upcoming Shooter title, Call of Duty 3. It has been earlier announced that it is coming to Xbox 360, with versions planned for PS3 and Wii; well according to Activision, a version of the game will still come out on Wii, including PSP, PS2, and Xbox, but no word of it branching out to PS3 was mentioned.

A third installment to the quite-successful Call of Duty franchise, this Treyarch-developed game is set to hit video retail stores this Fall. Here are some updates (thanks MDN360!) on the game's story and features:

ALL-NEW CLOSE-QUARTERS COMBAT: One of the most dramatic scenes on WWII was the close-quarters combats, where enemy troops is so close soldiers can hear the commands of the opposition's superiors. It's only right that this WWII-themed title brings justice to that scenario, and they have done so by featuring close-quarters battle mechanics that brings you face-to-face with the enemy. Fight hand-to-hand, disarm traps, improvise explosive devices, and execute a host of other battlefield challenges that require cunning and swift reflexes.

NOWHERE TO HIDE: One of the basics in winning a war is destroying the enemy's stronghold. In Call of Duty 3's environmental physics, you will be able to wipe out soft cover hideouts, such as wooden walls, barrels and crates—forcing your foes out in the open. Off course it won't be a fair battle is the enemy can't inflict the same damge to your camp, so better watch out.

CHOOSE YOUR PATH TO VICTORY: Wars are won by making the right decisions, so your judgement calls in battles play a huge role in every outcome. Next-generation level design provides multiple attack routes that let you decide how to confront the enemy, either by valiantly striking them head on, or sneaking on them behind their back. Each choice you make requires you to use special tactics, from sniping and demolition to straight out frontal assaults.

UNPRECEDENTED COMBAT OPTIONS: Execute parachute drops, armored assaults or SAS commando raids. Riddle battlefields with tank shells and explosives. Drive tanks to topple barricades and invade enemy emplacements.

TEAM-BASED MULTIPLAYER WITH VEHICLES: Intense multiplayer functionality has been built from the ground up. Up to 24 players can battle it out as a variety of player classes, including riflemen, infantry, scouts, and others. Multiple-occupancy vehicles let you coordinate attacks with friends, driving while they fire a mounted machine gun from the turret. The game's wide range of vehicles include tanks, jeeps and motorcycles with sidecars.

Capture the glory, drama, and heartache of World War II without having a single bruise and collateral damage (except electricity bills and blistered fingers from too much playing). Are you ready Soldier?!
