Ovni: a UFO-catching homebrew game - Image 1Now we give you news from the French PSP homebrew front. Coder Dark_alchemist has just come up with a new game called Ovni (UFO in English) to keep your fingers literally busy.

Basically, the objective of the game is to catch the UFO that is circling around the screen. This might sound easy at first, but the alien's movement gets faster and faster as you progress in the game. More details after the jump!

Worms: Open Warfare 2 for the PSP - Image 1

For those of us currently having fun with Worms: Open Warfare 2 (Sony PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS), then here's some very good news for Sony PlayStation Portable owners: every Friday going into November, Team 17 is going to be rolling out new content for the game easily downloadable by going into Infrastructure mode. That's right, new stuff directly downloaded onto your PSP that's relevant to the game where you control worms blasting each other to chunks. Awesome!

So what's going to be available for download? We're not quite sure what could be posted up for grabs, but if the first downloadable pack that went online is anything to go by, then it's definitely going to be a blast. If you haven't yet gone into Infrastructure mode on your PSPs to get a look-see, the first downloadable pack contained six extra flags (Yin Yan, Shotgun, Victory, UFO, Pointing and Peace) and four landscapes (Winter, Tugboat, Robot and Race). This means that it might not be too long before Team 17 starts shipping out new weapons for your Worms to mess around with.

Certainly a very good update for the game that fondly reminds us of games such as Warheads and Scorched Earth. Updates as we get them!

THQ is at it again as they release the latest in its human-annihilating, brain-eating, alien loving Destroy All Humans! series with Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed. The game is one of two titles promised by THQ and it aims to deliver the same brand of alien wholesale destruction Destroy All Humans! is known for.

Set as a prequel to the other iterations of the series, Crypto is back to pave the way for his other alien friend as he literally cooks up another scheme to take over the planet and... well, destroy all humans.

The developers from Locomotive Games will still be including all your favorite Disintegrater Rays and Ion Detonators at your disposal to take care of those pink skinned humans. Aside from Crypto's galactic standard UFO, you can also wreak untold amounts of havok with the Big Willy mech - and man is it big!

For those of you who enjoyed the previous Destroy All Humans! games, you'll definitely enjoy the simple pleasures of human stomping this newest game promises to deliver to gamers on the PS2, PSP, and Nintendo Wii. Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed is scheduled to be released this coming February. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the screenshots we have on the game.

The Wii, PSP screenshots await after the jump!

We have here three gameplay videos for the upcoming compilation video game Atari Classics Evolved on the PlayStation Portable. If this is the first time you've heard about this one, note that it is exactly what the title says: a compilation of classic games released on the platform Atari 2600.

In these videos, we revisit the ageless gameplay gems strewn with aesthetic improvements: Asteroids requires you to blast as many asteroids and UFO ships as possible, Battlezone on the other hand puts you in a tank tasked to destroy enemy super tanks, and Centipede turns you into a gnome who must protect the garden from insect swarms.

Atari Classics Evolved is sure to make some of you reminisce the good ol' simple days. While the younger generation of gamers should give it a try to know what kept their moms and dads up all night. The game itself will be released on November 15.

When PSP homebrew coder almost219 released Ultimate Flash Operation v2.2 a few days ago, the developer also announced that a much safer version 3.0 of this flasher application would be coming soon. And here it is - UFO's latest update, which carries the previously announced security checks to minimize bricking, along several other new features:
  • UFO v3 - Image 1Flash Unlimited Themes (OE, M33)
  • Flash a Countless Number of Files (OE, M33)
  • Dump Complete Firmware (OE, M33)
  • Backup Files for Recovery (OE, M33)
  • Recovery Mode (OE, M33)
  • Mix n' Match Mode (OE)
  • LOLstation Fix (OE)
  • Create Flash Mode (OE) (Testing on M33)
  • Multiple Security Checks (OE, M33)
  • Simple File Browser (OE, M33) (Recoding for more functionality)
  • USB Mode (OE, M33)
  • Take Screenshots (OE, M33)
  • Automatically Overclocks PSP for less lag (due to custom fonts)
Users are reminded that UFO has been designed to work on PSP firmwares 3.30, 3.40, and 3.51 only. almost219 also notes at the QJ.NET Forums that this release does not carry 3.51 M33-7 themes, so you'll have to create your own. Lastly, for the CFW 3.51 M33 users, be sure to have your themes properly converted before flashing them to your PSP. Failing to do so may lead to bricking your unit.

Be sure to view the file readme, and almost219's forum release thread over at our QJ.NET Forums for more information.

Almost219 dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to let the PSP homebrew community know that Ultimate Flash Operation (UFO) has been upgraded to version 2.1. Updates to look out for include bug fixes and improvements for the recently added support for CFW 3.51 M33, as well as expanded compatibility for other files:
  • UFO v2.0 - Image 1Fixed major bug, not allowing you to backup your files, and making 3.51 M33 access the wrong files
  • Displays 129x99 screenshots now
  • Beginning Backup only shows up if you don't have a backup in the themes folder
  • Support for flashing of all files in VSH/RESOURCE
  • Added:
    • auth_plugin.rco
    • common_plugin.rco
    • dd_helper.rco
    • game_install_plugin.rco
    • htmlviewer.res
    • osk_utility.rco
    • loadcore.prx
    • loadexec.prx
  • Above also added in Mix n' Match mode
  • More support for 3.51 M33 Mode - won't accidentally flash incompatible files.
  • Code improvements (more stability)
Keep in mind that UFO has been built to work on firmwares 3.30, 3.40, and 3.51 only, but Almost219 notes that more features will hopefully be added for 3.51 mode in the near future.

Given that it's a flashing application (among other functions), we advise to back up your files - mishandling apps like these may lead to bricks. Most of the info you'll need to run UFO v2.1 should be available in the file readme, and Almost 219's thread over at our QJ.Net Forums.

Destroy All Humans! - Image 1THQ recently revealed that it will be bringing two new entries in the Destroy All Humans! franchise to video game consoles next year.

The first title is Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed. The game is currently being developed for the Nintendo Wii by Locomotive Games and should be released early next year.

Jack Sorenson, THQ's executive vice president of worldwide studios, revealed that Big Willy Unleashed will let gamers cause massive destruction on foot, in Crypto's UFO or at the controls of the Big Willy mech in a funked out version of the 1970s. Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed is also slated to be ported to the Sony PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable platforms.

Another Destroy All Humans! title is also in development for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 video game consoles. According to Sorenson, this open-world game - titled Path of the Furon - will follow Crypto on his "journey of enlightenment and destruction." Path of the Furon is slated for the first half of 2008.
