PSP homebrew developer Vulpix dropped by the QJ.NET forums earlier to announce the latest release of the WaveX application, which you guys may have seen from a couple of months ago. This application, in case you're wondering, allows you to edit your PSP's opening wave animation by tweaking your unit's opening_plugin.rco. This latest build, dubbed WaveX: Reloaded, hosts several major revamps. As Vulpix explained, most of the apps used here have been replaced with rcotool, which means WaveX: Reloaded can now be ported to Linux and Mac OS X users. There's also a new tool that allows you to unlock firmware 3.60+ flash0 files. And in case you're asking, yes - the author confirms that WaveX: Reloaded will work with Team M33's CFW 3.71. The application will generate both a system_plugin_bg.rco and opening_plugin.rco for the said CFW. Full installation and usage instructions for WaveX: Reloaded are available via Vulpix's post over at the QJ.NET PSP Development forums. We advise users to head over there after making the download. PSP homebrew developer Vulpix dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce the release of WaveX BootSkin. This application is actually a new version of the BootWave app from months back, with the biggest major update here being its compatibility with firmware 3.51.For the guys who weren't around when Bootwave was initially released: It's a PSP application that allows you to edit the look and style of your PSP's opening wave animation. It does so by tweaking the opening_plugin.rco. As requested by Vulpix over at the QJ.Net Forums, we won't host the file here - guys can reach the download link and readme via the author's thread at our forums. Just click on the "Visit" link below, and you're there! Visit: QJ's PSP Development Forum |

PlayStation Portable (PSP) homebrew coder Vulpix has just announced a tester of the tgaWave Creative Studio application for Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition (x64 Windows). Going into details, this will test the to see if the applications that tgaWave depends on to run will run properly in an x64 environment. As a backgrounder, tgaWave is a PC-based homebrew application built to help PSP owners customize their XMB waves, and has gone through several updates, including a name change from "Custom Wave Texture Injector" to "Creative Studio" to reflect its growing versatility. Windows XP 64-bit, on the other hand is a Windows XP variant "designed to run on Intel Itanium family of microprocessors in their native IA-64 mode." The application author requests the help of fellow veteran community members (with the x64 OS) to help test this app to full x64 compatibility. Screenshots are welcome, while first-time downloaders are advised to let the experienced coders test this out first. Make sure to view the README to see what else is needed, and also be sure to visit the QJ.NET Forums to join the ongoing discussions for this application. To the guys who'd like to lend a hand, we wish them luck. Download: tgaWave CS Tester for Windows XP 64-bit Edition Visit: PSP Development Forum |

Vulpix is back with an update for tgaWave Creative Studio. This bumps up the app to version 1.10, and he's added a modified version of tgaWave that asks if you want to change the speed of the waves. If you're ready to start making your PSP look like it's on speed, grab the download below and check out the readme file for instructions. Vulpix also added a fix for the whole "PSPs getting semi-bricked by RCOs under 10kb" issue in version 1.0. According to him, the brickage was caused by "the header of the 2.60 RCO being rolled back to 2.50 when it is decompressed." In this version of tgaWave Creative Studio, the header's been compressed and tested on the included RCOs, so this shouldn't be a problem anymore. You can find out more by, again, reading the included readme file. There's more coming soon from Vulpix, so keep your eyes on the QJ blog or on the forums for the next releases. With Vulpix back at the QJ forums, expect good tidings to come in by way of the dev's newly released tgaWave Creative Studio v1.0. This latest addition to the nine previous Custom Wave Texture injector/Creative Studio applications should cut down on bugs people may have encountered in the past - your personal wave editing just got easier this time around. As for the other features included in this pack:

Pharonyk just released an additional modification for everyone's PSPs. This time though, it modifies the Bootwave rather than the XMB waves from his earlier release, the LollerWAVES Pack. LollerBOOTWAVES Pack - Plasma v2, created with the help of Vulpix's tgaWave Creative Studio, adds bootwaves you can use in conjunction with Pharonyk's earlier wave pack. For those that haven't seen it, it basically makes your wave look way flashier than ought to be allowed on the PSP. Pharonyk does note a potential problem with playing PSX games as a result of using this, though he hasn't specified this in his readme or in the forum post, so we're a bit at a loss to explain what he meant by it. In any case, you can always give it a try, and then remove it as needed for game playing. Enjoy the download! Oh, and Pharonyk, we read your comment. You should have a tag now, you lucky dog you. If you don't fancy some of the current wave backgrounds you can get for your PSP and you fancy making your own, then you'll be happy to hear that Vulpix is back again with another release of his tgaWave Creative Studio, bringing it up to v0.9. You may have noticed that the name has changed from tgaWave Custom Wave Texture injector to Creative Studio, and that's because it now includes three applications: Custom tgaWave Packager, Custom tgaWave Extractor, and bootWave for tga. With these respective applications, you can do just about anything when it comes to wave injection and customization. All you need is a bit of graphical skill and an advanced image editing program such as Photoshop or the GIMP and you're well one your way to custom backgrounds. All three applications have their respective readmes which include step-by-step instructions on how to use the applications and how to inject your custom waves from TGA files. You can see a video of this application in action in the tutorial video which can be found here. Just as a little side note, Vulpix has stated that he has not yet implemented file size indexing, but it may be present in the upcoming v1.0 release so stay tuned! After a short amount of time away from the PSP scene which resulted in a petition to get him back, the QJ staff would like to welcome Vulpix back to the homebrew community and congratulate him on this excellent release! Pharonyk has finally released version 2 of his Plasma LollerWAVES pack in the QJ forums. This new versions sees the disappearance of the "horrible outlines" (Pharonyk's words) and the addition of color. It's also been tweaked a bit so that you can actually read the XMB's text if you use it. Pharonyk also sends shout-outs to "Vulpix for the injector and the Duality Wave for one of my waves." For more on editing that wave graphic on your PSP's XMB, check out Vulpix's tgaWave Custom Wave Texture Injector. WavePool is also a cool wave editing app, so try it out too. If you're new to the whole wave editing scene, click here to head on over to the injection thread on the QJ forums. If you've got your own wave pack you wanna share, log on to the forums and release them there. Download: [LollerWAVES Pack - Plasma v2] Discuss: [Forum release thread] |

Well, the wave hacking scene has been growing bigger and bigger with each new release, so we're quite certain you'll like what we have to say today.
Vulpix has come out with another revision to the tgaWave Custom Wave Texture Injector. Now, it seems there aren't any visible changes, so we're not sure how to explain it. We'll just wait for some additional word from Vulpix on the changes to this one relative to version 0.7. For now, feel free to try out the application. You can also watch the video below for a tutorial or check out the forum post to get additional information. We'll update this with a changelog as soon as we get one. Customizing a PSP may be fun, but it's admittedly tricky with all that fiddly coding required. Now, if you've been reading up on Vulpix's tgaWave Custom Wave Texture Injector, but don't have the technical finesse to run it, this latest update makes his latest XMBwave editor app even easier to use: Instructions for use
We also highly recommend a visit to the forum boards - they've been cranking out some beautiful work using this and his previous apps, which may give you ideas on how you can customize your PSP. Download: [tgaWave Custom Wave Texture Injector v0.7] Discuss: [Forum Release Thread] |
