PSPHostAnd if you thought v1.9 was the last version of this incredibly useful app, well then, you're so wrong. danny_kay1710 has just upgraded PSPHost to v2.0.

PSPHost (formerly known as PSPLink) is a graphical interface support for NETHOSTFS, USBHOSTFS, PiMPStreamer, and WiFi Controller. Like we said, it's darn useful.

The dev says there are no new features added to this latest version, but two major bug fixes have been made.
  • The biggest one (bug fix) being the simple fact that on a lot of computers (mine not included) NETHOST would not stay running, it would close straight away after enabling it.
  • Other fix was the timer for detecting servers was slowed down to stop using as many resources.
danny_kay1710's hoping that these bug fixes would make PSPHost v2.0 a stable enough version for him to be able to start adding new features to the app. He also says that the PSP Pack from V1.8 can be used.

Thanks to danny_kay1710 - he even saw fit to tell us QJ folks about his wonderful program himself!

PSPHostHomebrew dev, danny_kay1710 has recently updated one of his creations, PSPHost formerly known as PSPLink. In case you have no idea what in the world this thing is, it is actually a graphical interface support for USBHOSTFS, NETHOSTFS, WiFi Controller, and PiMPStreamer.

The last time we talked about it, the dev added the latest updates of DickyDick1969's PiMPStreamer. He also introduced some compatibility fixes that would be of great help to those people who aren't using Windows XP. While v1.8 was jampacked with updates, there's always some room for improvement.

In your comments, you mentioned that there we're some bugs that prevented you from maximizing the capabilities of this app, well, hopefully, danny_kay did his part. You could leave out your suggestions and other thoughts on the comments section. For now, here is the changelog:
  • Now supports and includes the drivers for 64bit operating systems.
  • Startup bug fixed where when set to start with PSPHost the USB and WiFi server folders would not be applied. The default installation directory applied instead
  • Other silly bug fixes

PSPHostWho loves danny_kay1710? We love danny_kay1710! PSPHost, the graphical interface support for USBHOSTFS, NETHOSTFS, WiFiController, and PiMPStreamer has always been a useful addition to any homebrew newbie's arsenal. Since a new version of PiMPStreamer is up, it makes sense to unveil the latest version of PSPHost as well!

PSPHost adds the latest updates for PiMPStreamer (which you can also download from us) as well as introduces some compatibility tweaks for people who aren't using Windows XP. Here's a full list of changes for you, if you're interested in seeing what PSPHost v1.8 can do:
  • Added the latest update for PimpStreamer.
  • Changed the way that applications are ended. GUI more compatible with operating systems besides XP.
  • Now periodically checks for any enabled server processes and will notify you as soon if one should end without being disabled through PSPHost. Because of this I have removed the Test WifiController option as the application will now tell you if the Wifi Controller setup quits straight after being launched.
  • Now has the ability to share all drives ("cygdrive") option for both nethost and usbhost.
  • Can now share two separate folders, one for USB and one for WiFi. So WiFi could be browsing all of your computers hard drives whilst USBHOST shares all your legally backed up ISO images.
  • Does not disable servers after changing options in the settings page, it now successfully restarts all servers running at that time.
If you think that's impressive, just use it, and you'll see the extent of the little tweaks that's been added here and there. Enjoy the app guys!

A few months back (last May, to be specific), we posted an article about Netoo's PSP-controlled robot. A lot of you guys gave positive feedback on that, not to mention Jumped it waaaaay up. Well, we know what you guys want to see, and we're giving you more of it. Because just a few days ago, the PSP/WiFi Controller has been upgraded. Well, not upgraded by the same person, but upgraded nonetheless.

The upgrade by wifibot is interesting, to say the least. He installed a camera, and while being able to control the robot, has the video feedback streamed into his PSP. Take a look:

The video feed isn't really fast since it seems to be lagging a lot. But hey, when you look into the future, it poses an unsettling impact on society. In other words, it's got "spy cam" written all over it. But that's if you're thinking dastardly pranks on your neighbors. Well, whatever floats your bot boat.

PSPHost 1.4!

It's hard to be a pimp these days, what with all the laws and the codes and such. Thank goodness danny_kay1710 is here to help pimp you out. Pimp out your PSP that is.

The good developer's released version 1.4 of his PSPHost app, a GUI that supports USBHOSTFS, NETHOSTFS, WiFiController and, just to give it more pimping power, PimpStreamer v0.7. If you don't quite remember any previous versions of this app, it's probably because v1.3 and below used to be known as PSPLink. He changed the name, however, as TyRaNid already has an app called PSPLink.

The Changelog mentions some issues, aside from the PimpStreamer update:

USBHOSTFS and NETHOSTFS ran twice when set to run at startup. Whilst this didn’t cause any problems concerning viewing files over these hosts, it did consume more system memory than needed.

In any case, congrats to danny_kay1710 on his new release!

PSPLink v1.3 Out Nowdanny_kay1710 has released version 1.3 of his PSPLink application. danny_kay1710's PSPLink is different from another well-known program by TyRaNid, also called PSPLink. This danny_kay1710 version is a graphical interface that supports USBHOSTFS and NETHOSTFS. The new version now allows for use of PimpStreamer and WiFiController servers.

danny_kay1710's app is now available for download at the source site below, as well as on QJ. Before that, however, here are the list of all changes between his previous version and v1.3:

* Added PimpStreamer server support. Enable it on the system tray icon.

* Added Wi-Fi Controller server support. Enable it on the system tray icon.

* Because WifiController Host closes automatically when not properly configured a test button has been added to the settings menu. This will run the host without hiding it giving you chance to see if it stays open (meaning it is properly set up) or if it closes straight away (needs more configuration!).

* Now can start PimpStreamer or Wi-Fi controller with PSPLink (PimpStreamer will start minimised when started at program start) This means that effectively you can make PimpStreamer run as Windows start along with wifi controller through PSPLink.

* The setup no longer installs any readme's.

PSP

David Rudie and his famous WiFi application, WiFi Controller is back. Just to refresh your memory a bit, WiFi Controller turns your PSP into a controller for your Windows based computer. It was inspired by an earlier program called PPjoy by Mikko Monroe. This recent release is a more polished version of version 4 (which was publicly released). He fixed known bugs, like the menu selection screen flickering really bad and cycling through the items too fast plus cleaned up his code.

Changelog:
  • Rewrote some functions to clean up code more.
  • Shortened all message displays by 1 second.
You're probably thinking that there aren't that much changes in this release. Well, this ought to wake you up. Even if it hasn't been released yet, he has already put up changes he made on version 0.5! What a tease.

Changelog: v0.5 (Not released yet, but changes so far)
  • Added kernel mode to 1.x versions and removed the other for 2.x.
  • Removed flicker from menu.
  • Slowed down menu input so it's easier to select a config now.
  • Fixed some wording.
  • Renamed SocketTest.exe to WiFiController.exe.
  • Changed the invert button combo to NOTE + UP (1.x kernel mode only) and L+R+Select for 2.x.
  • Added a modifier button (note) to allow more buttons. (1.x kernel mode only)
  • NOTE + UP = invert Y, NOTE + L = L2, NOTE + R = R2. (1.x kernel mode only)
  • Cleaned up display some more.
Detailed instructions on how to operate this application is covered on this post.

WiFi

I think David Rudie is out to challenge the Neo-Geo Team on how fast they release updates on their work. Just a few hours ago, version three for WiFi Controller was featured here at QJ, that got some very good responses from you guys. Now, after laboring for a few hours to give you a much improved and even better program, he has finally released version four.

Change Log:
  • Cleaned up code some more and removed old header files not used anymore.
  • Added ability to select which WLAN configuration to use.
  • L+R+START now inverts analog Y in case some games don't support it.
  • Probably new bugs introduced. :)
You can check out his website for more info on the project as well as a very exciting to-do list, via the read link. Meanwhile, download the latest version by clicking on the download link provided below.

Thanks a bunch to David Rudie for sharing his work with QJ and our readers. Looking forward to more future releases!

WiFi Controller

Inspired by the work of Mikko Monone, who wrote the original controller program, David Rudie decided to give this program his own mark. The WiFi Controller program basically turns your PSP into a controller for your PC. A few of the things he noticed that's a little amiss with the original was that the start button exited the program and select didn't work plus he wanted some more details on the display.

He borrowed a tiny bit of the original codes as a starting point and the rest was all his. Also, we have to give it up for PPJoy for helping out. Rudie writes a detailed how-to in the Read Me file included in the downloaded, which I'm going to put here for everyone's convenience.
  • Open the PSP directory and edit the proper wifi.cfg for your PSP version and set the IP of the computer you are going to use this on.
  • Copy the correct director(y|ies) to your PSP depending on whether you have a 1.0 or 1.5 PSP.  If you use a custom firmware mod that allows the use of single EBOOT.PBP files on a 1.5 PSP then you can use the 1.0 directory.
  • Download and install PPJoy. http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/Docs/PPJoyMain.htm
  • After it is installed open up your Control Panel and run Parallel Port Joysticks.
  • When the window comes up click Add... at the bottom and then Add on the next screen.
  • It will want to install some drivers so either have it scan automatically or point it to the directory you install PPJoy to.
  • After it is done installing, click the PPJoy Virtual joystick 1 in the menu and click Mapping...
  • Choose "Set a custom mapping for this controller" and click Next.
  • Axes = 2 (X Axis and Y Axis)

    Buttons = 8
    POV hats = 1

  • X Axis = Analog 0

       Y Axis = Analog 1

  • These buttons are up to you to set. I left them all default but changed Button 7 and Button 8 to be correct because they ARE WRONG default.

    Button 1 = Digital 0
    Button 2 = Digital 1
    Button 3 = Digital 2
    Button 4 = Digital 3
    Button 5 = Digital 4
    Button 6 = Digital 5
    Button 7 = Digital 11
    Button 8 = Digital 10

  • Directional button POV

    North = Digital 6
    East = Digital 7
    West = Digital 9
    South = Digital 8

  • Run the SocketText.exe program.  It will open a Command Prompt window. Just minimize it and forget about it.  If it just opens and closes, something went wrong.  Good luck.
  • Now start the program no your PSP and it should connect to your computer and basically be working.  You'll find out in the next step.
  • Go back to your control panel and go to Game Controllers.  Click on the PPJoy Virtual joystick 1 and choose Properties.  On the screen that comes up you should be able to press buttons on the PSP and have them show as working on the screen. I recommend calibrating the Analog Stick too.
  • Enjoy!
Thanks imk for this one. Hopefully this won't be the last.
