Hero

The heroic stories of Jimmy Patterson, William Holt, and John Baker have hit shelves. Electronic Arts has announced that they have sent to retail Medal of Honor Heroes for the PSP. If you've been following the development of this game, you know the details already, but just in case you've been under a rock, or you're just plain uninterested with this genre, here's a quick run through:

Medal of Honor Heroes features a new single player campaign, six multiplayer modes within 15 different maps, wireless play with up to 32 players... up to eight gamers across a room in a local ad-hoc connection, Quickplay missions, and the ability to create customized mission scenarios.

As far as the single player campaign goes, the game's got three campaigns. One campaign takes place in Holland in Operation Market Garden and you play as Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson. Another, lets you play as Sergeant John Baker and you're tasked to sabotage German defenses on the Italian coastline. And you get to play as Lieutenant William Holt to finish some OSS business during the Battle of the Bulge.

The single player campaigns let you unlock over 20 classic characters that you can use in multiplayer games. A little tidbit just in case you guys were wondering what's the point of the single player when there's so much multiplayer content.

Well, now that the game is out, does this game, "pimp" your PSP? What do you guys think? If not, why?

Thanks to IGN, we finally now have a preview on one of the most anticipated games for the PSP, Medal of Honor Heroes. They were fortunate enough to sit through a demo of Medal of Honor Heroes down at the EA offices and shares with us their experience. As we've already mentioned in an earlier article, you'll get to play as three heroes in the game: Lt. Jimmy Patterson, Sgt. John Baker and Lt. William Holt.

The game allows you to play as a first-person shooter, and what's great is that the heroes take a short time to load. The controls are entirely customizable, which is exactly the way shooters should be anyway. Like the previous games in the Medal of Honor series, Heroes has various modes which include campaign and multiplayer, but now this one also has the exclusive PSP skirmish mode. What does this do? It allows you to go out into a battlefield with no other goal in mind but to wreck everything you see. There are a bunch of customization options: maps, bots to play with, and caps (there are 16 of 'em), to name a few.

Environment and Gameplay: Each hero has his own campaign composed of five missions which are set in different parts of Europe. The stage environments are reportedly stunning, and makes it easy for you to spot enemies during firefights. The structures and vehicles also have sharp textures, even the mailboxes and random stuff on the street are visually top notch. As for gameplay, there are a lot of context-sensitive actions that you can perform, including crouch, sprint, fire under cover, pick up weapons and cantinas, etc. Cantinas, same as before, it gives you health boosts during emergencies although you can automatically regenerate health should you get shot.

The full preview awaits after the jump!

Box artWe know how much you want this game, so we're bringing you more details about the upcoming Medal of Honor: Heroes for the PSP.

Controls are completely customizable for both online and offline play (online play can be on user-hosted or EA-Nation servers), and even though there's no second analog stick on the PSP, the developers still assure us that controls are still fluid and easy to use. Here's a good move on their part: the online mode lets you join a party any time, and a party can have up to 32 players (local games can have up to 8 players). Also, there are 20 unlockable Medal of Honor characters to use in multiplayer games.

For mulitplayer online gaming, there are 15 maps to choose from. There are also 6 different modes of gameplay. In "Battlelines," teams try to control certain places on a map. In "Hold the Line," a team tries to defend a place while the other team attacks it. In "Demolition," Allied forces attempt to demolish (obvious by the name of the mode) enemy targets while the Axis forces try to defend those targets. In "Infiltration" mode, each team needs to sneak into the other team's base to steal the flag and bring it back to home base. And "Deathmatch" is just a lot of death.

EA had two goals for this game: better graphics and more enemies on the screen. And it looks like they got both done. That means the missions should be more fun (and a real killer on the higher difficulty level). By the way, how long a mission lasts depends on how good you are and on the difficulty level, but most areas should take the average player a few hours to finish (or in my case, a few days because I'm such a wimp).

Medal of Honor: Heroes has the word "heroes" in it because you'll play 3 heroes:
  • Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson (from Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Frontline) in the Netherlands as part of Operation Market Garden.
  • Sergeant John Baker (from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Breakthrough) on the Italian coastline.
  • Lieutenant William Holt (from Medal of Honor: European Assault) in the Ardennes Forest during the Battle of the Bulge.

Medal of Honor: Heroes

FPS fanatics rejoice! Medal of Honor: Heroes has finally been announced for the PSP and we've got the official trailer available for download. Quite a few gamers have been complaining about the lack of FPS titles for the PSP, so we hope that this little preview serves to whet their appetite some more as we all wait for Heroes's release date.

Time now for a little backgrounder. In Medal of Honor: Heroes, players can experience three campaigns of previously unseen encounters in WWII through the eyes of renown heroes from past Medal of Honor games. Take on the role of Lt. Jimmy Patterson, star of both the original Medal of Honor and MoH: Frontline, Sgt. John Baker, from MoH: Allied Assault Breakthrough, or Lt. William Holt from MoH: European Assault. Each character has his own mission to complete, and it's up to you to make sure that he succeeds.

Gamers will also be able to choose from six different multiplayer modes within 15 different maps while participating in wireless multiplayer sessions with up to 32 players.

Download and enjoy.
