Xandu's Media Player 1.2d - Image 1

PSP homebrew developer Xandu has just released the latest version of his media application and it is now on version 1.2d. And guess what? The dev was proud to announce that Xandu's Media Player now sports custom skins and ID3v2 support.

In the unfortunate case that you've been living under a rock, Xandu's Media Player is a homebrew media app that supports .mp3, .wav, IT, MOD, S3M, and OGG. It features an iPod-like interface and an iPod clickwheel capability. Other nifty features include shuffle mode, album art, music quiz, ID3 tags, and louder sound output than XMB. Anyway, version 1.2d has the following changes and additions:
  • ID3v2 now supported!
  • Theme support added and opened.(This means you can do your own themes!).
  • Album Art support refined. (JPEG errors reduced)
Xandu notes that the app's files should be dumped in the GAME150 folder, while the music files need to be in the PSP/MUSIC folder. As usual, the dev included the User Manual so be sure to check it out in case you have any questions or problems. And remember, make sure that your music file names don't have any foreign characters since it will affect the app if you do.

At any rate, check out Xandu's Media Player by clicking the download link below. Enjoy!

Xandu's Media Player v1.2c - Image 1

Music lovers, gather around. PSP homebrew coder Xandu has released his entry for this year's NEO Flash Summer Coding Competition, Xandu's Media Player version 1.2c.

Yes, you read it right. It's out of beta and ready to kick some behind in the homebrew competition. In case you aren't familiar with Xandu's Media Player (or XMP), it's a media player with an interface that looks like an iPod. It supports a number of the formats: .mp3, .wav, IT, MOD, S3M, and OGG. It also boasts of an amplified sound output compared to the regular XMB, music streaming, and playlists where folders can be placed inside other folders.

Version 1.2c was basically polished, sporting only aesthetic (graphical) and minor bug fixes. Anyway, the known issues from the last release haven't been squashed yet, hopefully, Xandu will be able to iron them out in the next release. The said issues include song length and large sized album art issues, and only version 1 of ID3 can be supported.

If this is the first time using Xandu's Media Player, we'd advise you to go over his PDF user manual. Oh, and if you like the app, why not show your appreciation by voting for XMP? Enjoy!

Xandu's Media Player 2 - Image 1

For those who have been waiting for the update of Xandu's Media Player 2 (XMP2), you're in luck. The homebrew developer has just released the latest version for the PlayStation Portable music player.

If you aren't familiar with this particular homebrew app, here's a bit of a primer. XMP 2 is a media player that has a iPod-ish interface. It sports .mp3, .wav, IT, MOD and S3M playback, plus a lot more. In this release, Beta v1.2B, the developer was able to work out the various kinks and bugs from the previous releases.

Anyway, here's the changelog:
  • Font finally polished, XMP looks better now.
  • The "weird" noises before playing reduced.
  • The back bug that happened when you go back to the library.
  • Play/Pause icons now look better.
  • Scroll bar doesn't overlap the battery.
  • Folder bug now fixed, all folders work.
  • Analog in other menus now works.
  • Music Quiz updated (now views score)
  • Shuffle feature added BETA.
Xandu's Media Player 2 Beta v1.2B still has a few known issues at large (like the song length problem, bigger sized album art not showing up properly, and only version 1 of ID3 is supported), though hopefully, the dev will eventually get rid of those as well.

Anyway, go ahead and download the app, though make sure you read the nifty user manual that goes with the file. Enjoy!

Xandu's Media Player 2 Beta - Image 1

Music fans, unite! Xandu has released an alternative to your everyday PSP music player in the form of Xandu's Media Player 2 Beta v1.1, otherwise known as XMP. As Xandu explains in his readme, XMP 2 Beta v1.1 was designed to make your PSP look like an iPod and carry similar functions.

Here are some of XMP's features:
  • Supported formats: MP3, WAV, MOD, S3M, IT and more!
  • iPod graphics (including animated songbar)
  • iPod clickwheel using analog
  • Mp3 streaming (which means you can load up huge sized Mp3s)
  • Music Quiz
  • Album Art
  • ID3 tags
  • iTunes friendly (song info)
  • Lyrics functional
Seeing as this is a beta though, the forum thread on DCEmu notes some bugs that are currently plaguing this version of the player. These will be fixed in a future release, though some problems can be solved by checking the troubleshooting section in the included user's manual. If you like what you see though, make sure to vote for Xandu's application at the GBAX 2007 competition, which is linked on the Xandu's post over at the forums. Enjoy!

PokedexPSP - Image 1 PokedexPSP - Image 2

Ever wanted to get your hands on Pokemon for PSP? Well, we don't know about getting a PSP Pokemon game, but you can have your very own Pokedex (you know, the handheld thing that gives information on various Pokemon).

Your PlayStation Portable may not look as spiffy as the real thing (pictured at the bottom), but it sure can work like a real Pokedex. Now you can say "Let's go, Pokemon" to your DS neighbors!

Xandu of DCEmu has released the Pokedex for PSP, and currently covers Pokemon Fire Red / Leaf Green. According to Xandu, it has "all 386 Pokemon locations, statistics, TM/HM moves, Egg moves and Move lists."

Pokedex - Image 1 The controls are as follows:

D-pad Left/Right - Scroll Pokemon
D-pad Left/Right + Square - Skip 10 Pokemon
L/R trigger - Menu scroll
D-pad Down/Up - Scroll screen (Moves list/TMHM only)

Cheers for more Pokemon for the PSP. Enjoy!

Ooohhh... what does this video show? Well if you'd just click play, you'll see clear enough that it is about Homer's Gameboot Logo Remover, as posted by Xandu over at the DCemu forums. If you don't have any heck of an idea what it does, it instantly removes the logo from your gameboot, "whatever it is" (so says Xandu).

Okay, so that may not necessarily be helpful. But these instructions will surely be!
  • Either use the opening_plugin.rco you have or the one included in the zip
  • Use Logo Remover and choose the RCO.
  • Flash the RCO to vsh/resource
Oh, and this disclaimer as well: This program (through software or hardware malfunction), has the potential to render subject PSP units permanently inoperative. Use this software, and/or modification to PSP firmware files at your own risk.

Hmmm...in bold red colors, indeed. That must mean it's really important... Of course it is, dumbo! So go ahead, press play, download the file, and enjoy.

Get it right here: Dark_AleX's Open Edition Update Downloader Beta 1 from Xandu. Now, this one is a pretty cool alternative for Sony's Network Update. Really, if it's from Dark_AleX, you'd be crazy not to trust his masterpieces. Sometimes this writer can't even help but trust him more than Sony itself. LOL.

Anyhows, take a good note that this piece right here does NOT install Dark_AleX's Open Edition Network; it only downloads. The instructions are:
  • Flash update_plugin.prx using the flash update.
  • Make sure your first connection is active and working..
  • Use Network Update
  • UPDATE.rar should be in the MS root after the download is complete.
Also, this can flash using Flash0 USB mode in Open Edition. (vsh/nodule). But remember (and believe us, you would want to remember this well): This could brick your PSP when using flash. So, apply all proper precautions, and make sure you check out the Readme.

Yeah, so we always tell you to do that. But we won't get tired of drilling that in your hands, if only to ensure that you and your PSP will get out of this unscathed and alive.

Mario! - Image 1

What's this? Mario Coins v2.0 that ain't from Xandu? True, true. Another developer has bravely wandered into the Mario Coins turf, and with his own version at that! Now, that ain't so bad. After all, there can never be too many devs making our homebrew community more fun.

So, this is Old's version 2.0 of Mario Coins. Basically, he added sound, support screenshot in game over, as well as making use of OSLib. The zipfile you can download here, by the way, contains two versions: one for FW OE/SE/1.0, and the other for FW 1.50. If you don't want to jump in the whole 3.03 HEN and downgrader hullaballoo, this one's here a good diversion. Then again, you'd actually be crazy not to care about 3.03 HEN and downgrader.

Super Mario Power Coins v1.2b

Ah. Guess just what dropped in? ...in a sense. Aside from all those gravity-stricken fireballs, Twomps, and Banzai Balls seen in this addictive homebrew game, a new update to Super Mario Power Coins just fell into our forums. Xandu himself tipped us off with his release and as he promised last time, he's now included one feature we've been waiting for: Analog support.

Face it, with all those crazy stuff to dodge around the screen, this is one feature you were looking forward to as well. Here's the complete changelog for Super Mario Power Coins v1.2b:
  • Bug fixes
  • Smoother Mario movement
  • Analog Support
Nice update. Taking from his previous release, we can still expect more improvements like new level backgrounds and kinds of enemies.

Ditto's quest

Yup, Xandu is definitely at it again! Not to be simply contented with his already long list of accomplished projects under his belt, from Super Mario Power Coins to the Truth or Shuffle application, now he's got his hands on Pokemon: Ditto's Quest.

Here, you play Ditto. As you move through the levels, you transform into Pokemon and use their powers, in the quest to reach your Pokeball. Now, this right here is just a demo version. So don't be surprised if you find that it only contains one mini level. But no worries. Xandu will definitely cook up something bigger for Ditto right here.

Oh, and he gives special thanks to Homer and c5cha7.
