Orderliness is next to godliness, and with that mess of homebrew files, screenshots, saved games, music and videos, and demos that clutter both the PC and the PSP on this desk right now, Xeno's new v2.0 of Glyph Media Manager should be a godsend. New to and tweaked for this generation of PSP media management include:
Now, it pays to read the Readme even before you think about installing the program. Still, just a word of advice from Xeno, if you have a previous installation of Glyph, please uninstall it before installing this one. You'll also need the MSXML4 distributable from Microsoft to get Glyph to run, this can be found at www.microsoft.com, and found by searching for "MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2". The file you are looking for is "msxml.msi". Also, expect a small update to this article in the very near future as Xeno's completing a proper manual for using this program. Xeno's been working hard on a new version of the Glyph Media Manager for the PSP. If you remember our previous coverage, Glyph acts as an alternative to the Sony Media Manager, allowing users to transfer media from the PC to your PSP. It had a ton of features before, such as an auto renaming system for the media being sent and a system for organizing your PSP files.
Xeno's readme for Glyph 1.55 states that he intends to add homebrew and savegame support for the next version, which is a big plus, and an autosync feature, which allows for automatic file transferring when connecting your PSP to the computer. In the meantime, he's sent a screenie of the work-in-progress, which definitely shows the homebrew support idea on the interface when compared to 1.55 screenshots. Let's hope he can put in all of his intended additions into this new version so he give us homebrew lovers a reason to hug our beloved handhelds before going to sleep. Good luck Xeno! If you'd like to know more about Xeno's app, check out the readme file, and pray he updates his site so we don't have to wait with bated breath.

Xeno has released version 1.55 of his Glyph PSP Media Manager for PC. Used by quite a few QJ readers as a Sony Media Manager alternative, Glyph Media Manager has features such as ZIP file support, thumbnail support for videos, the ability to rename groups, and drag-and-drop group adding. The aim of Glyph Media Manager is to make it easy to transfer all your desired media files from the PC to your PSP, and has a couple of nice perks like a fully featured DB system for organising media, the ability to group media together for easy transfer, and automatic renaming of media (like your MP4 videos) to the correct naming format. Xeno has worked very hard on this release with help on beta testing with CertifiedDORK form the QJ forums. Here's the v1.55 changelog: - Fixed "Runtime 9 Error" - Fixed crash when adding music files with ID3v1 tags - Fixed default DB path not saving to options - Fixed Glyph not shutting down properly if the "Glyph Setup Wizard" is closed before completing the setup - Fixed center pane not showing any DB items - Fixed "Add .zip" runtime error So, now that this media manager actually works properly with no errors, I hope we can see more of you using this instead of Sony's expensive media manager! Don't go out and buy Sony's Media Manager. Xeno's amazing program makes it a lot easier to organise your PSP media files, and will save you $20! Xeno has released a new version of his Sony Media Manager alternative, Glyph Media Manager. This latest release, version 1.5 adds a few new features, including the addition of ZIP file support, thumbnail support for videos, the ability to rename groups, and drag-and-drop group adding. Xeno's website is now fully up and running with forums, news on the program, and support. Update: It seems that there is a little glitch in this program that prevents it from running correctly. And here is the cure: On "Glyphdb.txt" file in the installation directory, add this line under the [watch] section:
Update 2: Xeno emailed us and said that the problem ("Runtime 9" error) has been tracked down and fixed. So feel free to click on the download link below...it should work perfectly by now. :) Download: [Glyph Media Manager v1.5 *Update*] |

If you're not willing to pay 20 bucks for Sony's Media Manager software, Xeno has created a free alternative with Glyph. It seems like since we featured the software, it has gotten an overwhelming response. And as Xeno mentioned in his email, "It spurred me on to keep working on it, and so (*fanfare*) the new version is available for download."Glyph Media Manager v1.5 is "a lot more stable and reliable" than the first release. New features include:
