The rig consists of carefully adding additional LED points from the original, with the note key switching the indicator from mem to power to WiFi. A second mode changes the LED scheme to a light blue with a variation for a pulsing effect tied in with the headphone amp. More on this and the video after the jump! |

Modder edhel is announcing that he's working on a project involving the Sony PSP, and the Nintendo Wii console's classic controller attachment for its Wiimote. The mod involves hot-wiring the Wii controller to function as an external controller for the PSP, which edhel demonstrates through a short play-through of WipEout Pure. Here's edhel's uploaded video to give the readers a better idea of how this work in progress is looking for far:
edhel added this detail regarding this Wii classic controller mod: At the moment it isn't finished completely as i have yet to wire up the d pad - but withe the current releases of joysens i dont think there is much point in doing so (although i may if i have time between other mods im doin). I am rubbish at the game in the vid and the turning in wipeout pure is really hard but i assure you that all the buttons shown ARE WORKING.

If you're not satisfied with the wireless capabilities of your PSP, then you might be interested to know that some of the developers from AcidMods are working on a project called the Internal Bluetooth Mod for Sony's PSP handheld.
In a video uploaded by the developers, they take viewers through a quick presentation of the Bluetooth capable PSP in action. Using a pair of modified headphones and a special Bluetooth transmitter attached to the PSP, the AcidMods team was able to feature the streaming capabilities of their little project. So far they've only been able to stream music using their customized Bluetooth transmitter. Who knows? Maybe someday they may be able to stream other media like videos or even other homebrew apps through this project. For those of you who are interested at taking a look at the technical details of how they were able to piece together this particular set up, the team from the AcidMods forums have posted a step-by-step tutorial on how they were able to do it. You can check it out through the read link below. |

While the PSP's Chotto Shotto (aka the Go!Cam) camera boasts a handy set of functions, one issue some peopel have with it is that it sits prominently on top of the frame, and really messes up the PSP's otherwise streamlined exterior. Rex over at the AcidMods forums apparently had the same issues, given this new modding project that's just been finished.
This mod has the camera installed directly inside the PSP Phat, in place of where the UMD drive used to be. Here's Rex's video demonstration to give you a better idea of how it works: Rex further noted that future projects include plans to build the Chotto Shotto into the PSP Slim. What makes this attempt interesting is that it won't involve removing the UMD drive. That's it for the moment, although you guys may also want to keep on the lookout for a tutorial - the modder plans to release one soon. |

Online site Acidmods has another worthwhile tutorial up for those tech tinkerers out there, and it's got everything to do with Sony's latest offering to gamers everywhere. The tutorial basically shows folks how to disassemble their PSP Slim into its component parts, and while the process seems simple enough to follow, it certainly looks like a nerve-wracking exercises in understanding your PSP, to be sure. According to the tutorial, you'll basically need three things to get everything started: a 0 or 00 Philips screwdriver, a small flat head screwdriver, and a pair of tweezers. You'll also need some patience, as you'll have to be very gentle in removing certain parts. That being said though, it's certainly something meant for the modding pros to do, as you definitely wouldn't want to mess up your latest gaming purchase, right? To all those trying this tutorial out though, we wish you the best of luck! Just follow the Read link for the full details. |

First, there was the Virtual PSP Modder application. It was AcidMods' helpful tool to visualize the innards of the PSP, thus making it easier for you to "practice" how you'd implement a certain mod you wanted. And then, this gave birth to the Virtual PSP Modder Lite. The "Lite" here would connote its being a web-friendly version of the original app.
Today? We've got the grandson of the Virtual PSP Modder. (Well, something like a grandson twice removed, to be exact since we're talking about a different PSP model now.) Yeah, the PSP Slim is definitely sending modders up to pimp haven. And AcidMods isn't one to back down from missing an opportunity to help you pimp out the Slim. The Virtual PSP Slim Modder acts the same way as its forefathers. Just click whichever part or layer of the PSP Slim you want to view. Some of the choices include the faceplate, buttons, LEDs, speaker, mother board, et. al. You can check a preview of it in this video embed: For those who want to use the Lite app itself, click the Read link below. Also, make sure you use Internet Explorer as a browser to view it since it doesn't seem to work well with Firefox. |

Remember that PlayStation Portable mod we featured a few months back? We're talking about Acidmods' Razor Nub. We've got a new video straight from zbblanton and anteroom123 of AcidMods showing off their progress with the said mod: a self center razor nub.
In case you're wondering what this mod is all about - either you missed earlier reports or just forgot, Razor Nub is basically aimed at adding a right analog stick to your trusty handheld. Today's video just shows some progress on the idea. zbblanton and anteroom123 have built an analog nub that self-centers like the real thing. The tutorial for the said mod is still in the works, and we're pretty curious about how cool it would be to have two nubs on the PSP. Anyway, check out video to see mod in question. |

Those who enjoy the idea of tinkering with their PSPs, but are too scared of doing it may enjoy this issue of AcidMods' AcidMag. In the fourth issue of AcidMag they feature a nifty application called the Virtual PSP Modder. It basically allows you to virtually disassemble and reassemble a model of a PSP, including the use of various modding tools and even colorful faceplates you can fit into the virtual PSP. It even details a step by step tutorial on how the different tools work. According to the issue, the developers are working on the first expansion pack for the application, which includes additional features like new faceplates, buttons and more LED's for the PSP. You can probably have some fun with this application, since you can mod a PSP without running the risk of permanently damaging it if you consider yourself a technological jinx. You can follow the links on the issue for a download of the application itself. In the meantime, enjoy a good read with this issue of AcidMag.
