Taking the spotlight in this week's edition of our On Shelves post, the 2K Sports baseball franchise returns in The Bigs 2, which is now out in stores and waiting to be bought by baseball and sports game fans. The Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, and Wii release is accompanied by this Opus Launch trailer, which you can catch after the jump.

Minus the digital downloads, this has to be one of the smallest batches we've seen on On Shelves. Talk about a dry batch - no AAA titles in this lineup. Anyway, there's still ArmA II for the PC if you're a die-hard FPS fan, or if you're a baseball fan, 2K Sports' The Bigs is also coming out this week. A new version is out for JPCSP, the Java-based PSP emulator for the PC. This version fixes a UMD drive issue, though no further details on its implications were released.

Gotta be in-the-know about the latest releases right? For that, we've got another edition of On Shelves for this week. We've got a pretty solid batch coming up, starting with the release of Halo Wars and Phantasy Star Portable. It seems like Sony has done it again as the PlayStation Portable has once again dominated the sales charts in Japan for yet another week. On the flip side of things, five new video game titles have wedged themselves into the top slots of the software market. Like in the UK, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has yielded its place after only a week on top spot in the Japan software charts. It seems like Nintendo is still enjoying its lead for this week's software sales list in Japan as the numbers from Media Create showed Mario Kart Wii topping the charts once again. Capcom's own Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G maintained its place in the second slot. The other contenders are trying to catch up to these two, while some have dropped straight off the list. It's all about Jose Reyes in the new promotional trailers released by 2K Sports for its latest hardcore baseball sim, Major League Baseball 2K8. The new series of videos, featuring a bobble-headed incarnation of the New York Mets shortstop, was aimed to promote the recently released game across its various platforms.
