Bomberman Arena

ShUr1k3n from our forums has just updated his homebrew game Bomberman Arena to v0.957b (Don't ask me about the peculiar version code... I'm clueless too). It's still a beta version, so there might be a few bugs here and there.

But the game actually looks extremely nice. There are some really good updates which make the gameplay even better. I'll list them out here:
  • Now you can kick the Bombs, if you get the "boots" item.
  • If a Bomberman Died, his items are spread.
  • "HURRY UP!" - Start raining tiles, closing the battlefield, as soon as the time reach 1 min.
  • Now in the Pause Menu you can Resume Game, Restart Game and Exit Game.
There's a few more screenshots which he has supplied. Check them out.

And finally, the download link. There are two seperate versions, one for 1.0 and the other for 1.5.

Bomberman MiniMod

Kemps, from our forums, has created a mod based on Shur1k3n Bomberman Arena - a homebrew clone of the classic strategic, maze-based video game where the aim of the game is to place bombs to kill enemies and destroy obstacles.

Additional features added include:
  • New background for the starting screen
  • New background for player select screen
  • New score keeper on the top of the screen whilst playing
Note, that the changes are not huge (hence the minimod name) to the original Bomberman, just some minor graphical updates which hopefully Kemps will continue to add to. If you want something on a slightly different spin, then try this out ... the game is definitely a blast!

It might have taken ShUr1k3n a while to make updates on his Bomberman Arena, but he surely made it worth everybodys wait. V0.93 Beta contains alot of changes to his PSP clone of the popular strategic, maze-based video game.

The latest release will allow up to four players and contains multiple AI. A score board and random map generator has also been squeezed into v0.93. A couple of new things can be found on the newest Bomberman Arena like the menu and the SFX. If you've played ShUr1k3n's game before, you may also notice that he's made some changes to the sprites.

ShUr1k3n did promise the last time that he'll try putting in a 2-player mode via wireless, however, since he doesn't have two PSPs to test the game with he wasn't able to add multiplayer via Ad Hoc. The game is far from being complete as ShUr1k3n still wants to make some improvements, he's asking any artist who'll be willing to help him modify his Bomberman sprites to contact him.

If this is your first time getting hold of Bomberman Arena, here are the controls (they are changeable via the OPTIONS Menu):

Player[1]

  • MoveLeft = LEFT
  • MoveRight = RIGHT
  • MoveUp = UP
  • MoveDown = DOWN
  • DropBomb = LTRIGGER
Player[2]
  • MoveLeft = SQUARE
  • MoveRight = CIRCLE
  • MoveUp = TRIANGLE
  • MoveDown = CROSS
  • DropBomb = RTRIGGER
* PAUSE = START

Bomberman, by Konami and Hudson, for the PSP sticks to the roots of the Bomberman series. The game will have classic top-down gameplay that the series is known for unlike the 360's Bomberman: Act Zero and will have four different game modes. The game looks to be like Bomberman 64 with its characters and environments brought to life in 3D with an original story and should be out by the end of the year.

The game features include Normal Mode: the latest Bomberman complete with a new story and 100 levels, Classic Mode: based on original classic Bomberman featuring over 50 different levels, Multiplayer Battle Mode: up to 4 players can fight for survival in a variety of highly customizable games across 20 different stages via wireless ad hoc mode and Game Sharing Mode. Up to four players can battle from just one UMD game disc. Go ahead and check out some of the screenshots from the game by clicking on the thumbnails below.
