A lot of people were hoping that the Capcom teaser site was for a new Onimusha game, but the fact that it was accessible from the Sengoku Basara portal kinda weighed the odds in favor of a new Basara game. And so it turned out to be just that.

Yes, it bears more than a passing resemblance to the Monster Hunter games, but it looks like Namco Bandai's God Eater is more than a mere clone for the popular Capcom franchise. It also has shades of Devil May Cry thrown in, so it actually takes from two Capcom franchises!

Still, the game actually looks pretty awesome as I said in my previous God Eater post. That's just reinforced by this new promo vid.

Capcom has put a new quest up for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite players to download. Compared to the three in the first batch it's a bit sparse, but hey, at least it's free.

You know what comes next after the European PS Store Update, yes? That's right, it's the US PS Store Update for the week of July 2, 2009. And it's a hefty one to serve you fine too, in time for the 4th of July weekend. So in case you're feeling a little lethargic to join in on the festivities, at least you'll have something else to do to keep you busy. Capcom is showering more love onto Sony's PlayStation consoles. Well, the PS3 and PSP anyway. They've announced that they'll be rolling out more downloadable classics on the PlayStation Store over the next few months.

If Lost Planet (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) seems at times like a Monster Hunter game set in a different planet, then Namco Bandai's new PSP title God Eater is a Monster Hunter game set in a futuristic urban environment. Judging by the media released so far, that doesn't necessarily seem like a bad thing.

Last week's batch may be a tough act to follow, but this week holds its own, bidding for your buck. The Call of Juarez prequel Bound in Blood (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) is out now if you want a mean FPS. Square Enix isn't the only one with a new teaser site. Capcom Japan has also put one up, so for this week we get to wrack our brains about two different upcoming games. No countdown for the Capcom site, though, but there is a number.

Capcom has finally dated the much awaited XBLA and PSN outing of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Earlier reports speculated that the release date of the game will be on June 29 as projected in Marvel Entertainment's Q1 2009 financial report but Capcom has clarified the rumor and pinned down the release date in late July.

On the fourth week of June 2009, arguably the biggest PSP game in Japan finally burst out of its cage and unleashed hunting fever on the West. Backed by an impressive ad campaign and publicity drive from developer and publisher Capcom, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite has certainly penetrated the collective gaming consciousness in the West more than any other Monster Hunter title so far. The question is, will it be enough to rope in new players or will the series remain a niche franchise for none but the most ardent and hardcore fans?
