PSP Homebrew Developer Dark_Moon - author of PSP Protection Password - has released a beta for his new app, PSPcw, a program that allows you to write a document on your handheld and save the file on your memory stick. The program will be oriented for writing C/C++.

As of now the program is still in its beta stage. According to Dark_Moon, the program can still only write simple documents and does not have the sufficient characters to write C/C++. Here are the instructions for the program:

PSPcw Public Beta - Image 1General :
Start - Return to the XMB
Save - Select

Write document mode :
Up and down - Change character
Cross - Next character

Circle - Next line

Write file mode :

L - It puts in the screen "."
Square - Write the file and return to xmb.

If you have any questions or if you wish to discuss the program, follow the link to our forums below. If you find bugs in the program, Dark_Moon also requests that they be reported in the forum thread.

PSP Password Protection v0.4b - Image 1PSP homebrew developer Dark_Moon has released the latest version for PSP Protection Password. The app allows you to prohibit other people from using your PSP by locking the unit with a password on bootup.

Dark_Moon also recently released the source code for PSP Protection Password v0.3. The new version, v0.4b, adds a configuration file to the app. Here's the changelog from Dark_Moon:
  • Added a configfile for skip or don't skip the initial effect.
  • If you have a psp 3.40 OE - 3.52 m33 and you don't generated the password.txt and don't put it on the same folder of ppp, now there is a 'secret' password that is 1234 and with this you will can go to the xmb.
  • If the password.txt is in the same folder of ppp this password won't be correct, will be correct your password generated.
  • If you have 3.40OE - 3.52 M33 and you use the flashed version of it, replace the eboot.pbp located on flash0:/cfw/boot by this.

PSP Protection Password source codes released by Dark_Moon - Image 1Here's an interesting bit of news for our resident PSP homebrew developers. Coder Dark_Moon passed by the QJ.NET forums earlier to announce the release of the source codes for PSP Protection Password (the latest release being version 0.3).

This application, in case you're asking, enables you to limit access to your PSP by requesting for a password upon bootup. Perfect for protecting your precious files against the prying eyes of siblings and nosy parents.

Dark_Moon states that the floor's now open to all devs who want to experiment with the app and see if they can create their own interesting customizations. He also noted that another application's under development, though it's still unclear if this will
be released (and when, if ever) as he is very busy with his studies at the moment. We also suggest that readers visit Dark_Moon's thread over at the QJ.NET PSP Development forum for further discussions.

PSP Protection Password - Image 1Dark_Moon has given a quick update to the PSP Protection Password homebrew application, now with increased security. For those who haven't encountered this application before, it allows you to limit access to your PSP with a password upon bootup - meaning, if the person holding your PSP doesn't know the password, they won't be able to use it.

Though there doesn't seem to be any other specific changelog for this release, the biggest thing to note here is that this update is, to quote Dark_Moon, "only for 3.40 OE and 3.5x M33 and only for PSP fat, no PSP SLIM!"

This is despite the previous version of PPP having PSP Slim support. Glad the homebrew developer is still updating the homebrew for the PSP Phat.

Further information, installation instructions, and details can be found in the download bundle and the forum release thread of Dark_Moon. Make sure you drop by our forums as well, just in case you need any help with the app.
