One of the most popular PSP homebrew games around gets yet another update. DeNitro and Devin923 (thanks for the heads up, guys) just posted a patch for PSP Revolution v0.3, bringing the StepMania-inspired game up to v0.3a. If the previous version had a good mix of new stuff and a couple of fixes, this new serving focuses on correcting a few problems reported with v0.3:
For notes on controls, song selection, song installation (yep, you can actually add additional songs), and what-have-yous, just browse through the readme file included in the DL. Now go ahead and click on that download link to keep 'em fingers dancin' (or pressin' or whatever). Download: [PSP Revolution v0.3a patch] Discuss: [Forum Release Thread] |

It's safe to say that the originators of the rhythm game genre have to be Konami, what with their BEMANI line of dancing and DJ games. While we do have DeNitro and Devin923's PSP Revolution series and its associated mods, you have to admit that the Beatmania side of the BEMANI franchise doesn't get a lot of love outside of the arcades. Good thing Korea's got our backs. Pentavision, makers of the first DJ Max Portable game for the PSP, is coming out with a sequel. Predictably titled DJ Max Portable 2, it features 150 songs (at least!), and a new gameplay mode. Best of all, if you like Asian-styled artwork, then there's no better place to see nice looking Korean art than a Korean-made dance game. Now, the translation through the web is a bit iffy, but it does seem as if that new mode will be playable right at the start, though there's no word on how many songs will be available for gamers to get their beats going at the beginning. Hopefully, we won't need to be masters of the game to get all the tracks. If any of our readers have some sharpened Korean language skills, we could use a proper translation to let everyone else know about the game. You can be sure that there's going to be some fans from across the Pacific hoping for another International Version to come out. Until the game gets an official release date in its home country, however, you might as well enjoy the pics we got from Ruliweb. Update: Thanks to JamesX, he's translated some more information from our source. According to his translation, DJ Max Portable 2 is scheduled for a release this winter. The game itself will include 60 songs, most of them new for this iteration of the game. The new gameplay type is apparently called New Key mode, though we don't know what it does. There's an OST Mode that supplies the 150 tracks we mentioned, but we'll have to wait for more English info or someone to grab a copy of the game to figure out if OST mode refers to a soundtrack of the game we have to buy or a completely unlockable mode. Oh, and the slogan is "Sound Miracle". Boy, if that isn't an indication of how Korean this is, then we don't know what is. More screens and something for your wallpapers if you click "Full Article." |

Woohoo! MonkeyBoy1916 is at it again with his mods for DeNitro and Devin923's DDR-for-your-fingers, PSP Revolution. Now coming up with his Anime Style v5 mod, players can look forward to happy days ahead which involve playing a game which uses our favorite anime tunes (and with the deluge of Dark_AleX releases, lately, one can't help but wonder if all this is a Thanksgiving treat, or an early Christmas present). In any case, MonkeyBoy1916 has also pointed out that this isn't the final release of this version as his work was temporarily stopped because of an unfortunate PC problem. According to him, there should have been a whole lot more features added in this release such as more songs and better graphics, but that would have to wait for the meantime. He also mentions that he wishes to be able to make full use PSP Revolution 0.3's new features, so let's see what he comes up with in the weeks ahead. Some of the changes that he made for this version are:

Are your coordination skills still up to par? Are you still good with your fingers? We don't think anyone's really that bad with their fingers. It's all a matter of how you use them, anyways. That's why practice will always help. Now we haven't heard from PSP Revolution recently. All we've been getting for some time now are mods and additional "skins". Hardrive tipped us off, and we just found out that today, DeNitro and Devin923 have released PSP Revolution v0.3 for everyone to get busy with. For those not familiar with this non-homebrew-looking homebrew, it's played much like Step Mania. Keep up with the music and make sure you time your button presses well when they hit the indicators on the top of the screen. Here are some excerpts from the changelog:

I am not much of a dancer, but I am an anime and JMusic fan. And I
would have to give it up to MonkeyBoy1916 for making the right choice
in which anime to feature as well as the songs. But I am getting ahead
of myself right here, so let's start with what exactly MonkeyBoy1916
has done.
This is a mod for arguably one of the best looking homebrew out there, the PSP Revolution by DeNitro and Devin923. This mod will make the Otas in Akihabara get up and dance, because it includes anime menus and songs. I also liked the Japanese characters on the upper left side of the screen when you're making your choice for the theme you're going to use as well as other options that are available. Nice touch.
YuYu Hakusho (Ghost Files/Poltergeist Report) This is one manga/anime that I'll never get tired of watching. It's about a tough high school kid, Yusuke Urameshi, being chosen to be one of the lead detectives of the spirit world. He meets allies along the way like his rival Kazuma Kuwabara, Fire Demon Hiei and soft spoken demon Kurama. Yuseke's special weapon is the Rei Gun.
In this game you'll hear the familiar opening theme in its native Japanese by Mawatari Matsuko sung by Seiyuu Megumi Ogata titled Hohoemi no Bakudan [Arigato Gozaimasu!] (Smile Explosion [Thank You Very Much!]). But I think that the background could use some more editing since it's showing up pixelized. And I'd also make the background a shade lighter.
