Homebrew dev, danny_kay1710 has recently updated one of his creations, PSPHost formerly known as PSPLink. In case you have no idea what in the world this thing is, it is actually a graphical interface support for USBHOSTFS, NETHOSTFS, WiFi Controller, and PiMPStreamer. The last time we talked about it, the dev added the latest updates of DickyDick1969's PiMPStreamer. He also introduced some compatibility fixes that would be of great help to those people who aren't using Windows XP. While v1.8 was jampacked with updates, there's always some room for improvement. In your comments, you mentioned that there we're some bugs that prevented you from maximizing the capabilities of this app, well, hopefully, danny_kay did his part. You could leave out your suggestions and other thoughts on the comments section. For now, here is the changelog:

As initially announced, Peejay can start Java on your PSP. And now, you can download it right here. Right now. However, this is just the text (console output only) kvm targetted on Java devs. But what the heck, we're sure you're in store for boatloads of fun! As for the full-fledged midp 2.0 binary, dickydick1969 says he's still busy working on it. What?! You dont know what Peejay is for, well let this lingering words from dickydick1969 remind you: "Yep, I made a small port of the j2me (K)VM, making my PSP capable of running JAVA programs.. It was a very easy port…. as the Sun KVM is easy to port." Alrighty, then! Enough of the chat and get the party started! Thanks for the heads up, Colinlokz! Download: [PeeJay v0.1] |

The PSP homebrew scene has definitely been one of most successful ever. With the fiery determination of our great developers, we've continuously broken away from the li'l box we're being stuffed into. Like a Phoenix, the scene has repeatedly soared from the ashes of firmware updates, flying towards the horizon of hacks and homebrew. Pardon us for being too poetic about it, but it's hard not to get sentimental about something all of us could call our "own". In honor of the efforts of the developers and of the ever-supportive PSPanatics that flock the scene, we've been dishing out nostalgic posts like our li'l trek to the PSP hacking history and our recollection of the top five PSP emulators we've had. It's not in any way leading to us just savoring the good ol' days 'cause the scene should be deemed as a "has been", but rather a sweet look from where we all came from so we could all eagerly await the imminent bright future. In line with this, we've come up with a post focused on reliving some of the greatest and most efficient PSP applications around. Yep, PSP is a gadget primarily created for gaming, but our hardworking 'brewing icons have made it into something its original creators have failed to do - a true multimedia device. The list of the greatest apps ever made for PSP awaits after the jump! |

Bringing out yet another kickass update to PiMPStreamer is none other than our favorite dev, DickyDick1969. In all seriousness though, there's a lot to look forward to in this small update. Even though he was busy with other things (hint?), he was gracious enough to add in FLV support for PiMPStreamer, along with Youtube RSS support. If you're like most of us here in QJ, and if your primary means of wasting time involves watching stupid, but funny videos on Youtube, you'll feel right at home with this new feature. Here's the official changelog:
Just remove your old PiMPStreamer.INI prior to installing the update. One small note though, when you drop the Youtube RSS link into PiMPStreamer, it will take a little while to download and parse the location and FLV file. And just for the record, nothing has changed on the PSP side of PiMPStreamer, this is just an update for the PC server. Download Link: [PiMPStreamer v0.76] |

We all saw DickyDick1969's hard-work when he showed off his port of Java on the PSP. I was still wondering if he would continue working on PiMPStreamer which was his claim to fame in the first place. And well, we don't have to ask him, because he surprised us with a new version out of the blue! Here's what's in store for you guys in the latest version:

Update: In our hurry, we forgot to give out the link to Sun's developer site. It is now included in the article. Our apologies for the mistake. The latest entry in our PiMP man's blog reads "Introducing PeeJay!" We knew that our friend was working on something, but he kept us all in the dark. Well, the cat is out of the bag today. The PiMP man just emailed us a few hours ago to unveil this project which he he had been working on for the last few weeks. Since DickyDick personally mailed us to let us in on this piece of news; and now, we'll be unveiling DickyDick's latest creation: Java on the PSP! The developer was very enthusiastic about this. "PeeJay? Yeah PeeJay..! Or call it Psp Java, PimpJava … Java for ur psp! Yep, I made a small port of the j2me (K)VM, making my PSP capable of running JAVA programs.. It was a very easy port…. as the Sun KVM is easy to port. It was done in a jiffy." The PiMP man was also kind enough to show us a video of his port in action. You can download it below. Unfortunately, that's the only available download here. Where's the application? Well, DickyDick1969 has been unable to release this since he did not get permission from Sun, the creators of Java. Here's what he had to say: "So why not sharing the stuff ?? (giving you a download link for example…) It’s sad… :-( :-( What he also said is that all of you can persuade Sun Microsystems to allow this to be released. So you might want to visit Sun's developer site to give them your feedback about allowing the release of PimpJava. You'll never know - they might just hear you. We live in the "instant" age. Where the microwave is the new stove, liposuction has replaced crunches, and AIBO is man's best friend. And the only reason we chose this as the opening is because halfway through that overdrawn and overly dramatic sentence you'd have already installed the latest version of PiMPStreamer in your PSP with DickyDick1969's PiMPStreamer Noob Installer. You'd be able to play AVI, MP3, MPEG and other common media formats from your computer to your PSP faster than instant noodles gets cooked. Just download the installer through the download link below the article, run it on your computer and stream away. Better get used to this because future releases will now come in this format. DickyDick1969 has just made an update to his swell homebrew app, PiMPStreamer. This program enables you to stream most of your movie files to your PSP. The dev makes use of the normal ffmpeg libraries so files such as AVI, MPG, MP3 would work fine. How does it work? DickyDick1969 says that basically the PiMPStreamer "transcodes and scales your original movies to the PMP format REALTIME". Moreover, he assures you that you won't be needing a supercomputer to stream your movies. So what's new with v0.72? Check out the list below:
