PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1It was a week full of bittersweetness -- for those who have PSP Gos at least. Team Typhoon, the fellas behind ChickHEN, blew a lot of minds by showing proof of homebrew running on the PSP Go. The bad news is they have no plans of releasing their HEN. There's still hope, though. Homebrew dev Freeplay is still hard at work on developing an eLoader for the download-only handheld.

PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1Do you use cheat devices for your games? Don't be shy. I'm not one to judge. Just want to say that if you do, then this was a good week to have a homebrew-capable PSP. We got updates for two different cheat-related apps in the past seven days. Incidentally, if you don't have a homebrew-enabled PSP yet, then the new 5.03GEN-B for HEN which was also released this week is for you. More homebrew news and updates after the jump!

PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1The weekend's here but there's still no 5.03GEN-B for those who want to put some homebrew in their PSP-3000s thanks to more unforeseen bugs. Don't you just hate when that happens? Too bad too, since there was a nice crop of homebrew apps and games that came out in the past seven days. No worries, though -- the team behind the GEN firmware is still hard at work on a release. Hit the jump for a glimpse at the rest of the week in homebrew.

PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1Due to some unforeseen bugs mucking up the works, custom firmware 5.50GEN-C at the start of the week turned out to be more underwhelming than we hoped. Good thing Team GENyUS was able to roll out a new revision a few days after, with another update launching in the days that followed. 5.50GEN-C may have set the week off on a sour note, but thanks to 5.50GEN-D things still turned out for the best. Read all about what else happened in the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior.

PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1Usually, when a comparatively major firmware update gets released, the first thing the homebrew community does is scrutinize the changelog. Not just the one officially posted but also the things that Sony doesn't mention. Then, it's usually decrypted pretty rapidly by one group or another. Finally, someone posts a YouTube video showing what is allegedly a working CFW version of the official update.

Things didn't go any different with OFW 6.00.

PSP Go - Image 1In case it wasn't painfully obvious, the new PSP Go is Sony's next move in their ongoing battle against piracy on their gaming handheld. From firmware updates to the non-removable battery, it seems Sony has really done the research.

PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1

Quite a few theories sprung up during the latter half of the week when it was announced that Dark AleX's forums were shutting down. Did it mean that the homebrew legend was leaving the scene? Did Sony shell out the cash to shut him up? Are we going to see a new version of the retire-and-reemerge trick?

Yeah, theories. While we wait for word from the "Dark" one himself, let's take a look at the week in homebrew.

QuickJump QuickGuide - Image 1Just as Sony keeps releasing little tweaks to the PlayStation Portable's firmware to add even more security and, sometimes, new features, those keen on keeping the PSP as open a platform as possible also keep on churning out regular custom firmware updates. One of the best and most trusted of these steadfast developers is Dark AleX, the man behind the M33 custom firmware series. In this issue of QuickJump QuickGuide we're taking a look at the latest M33 release, 5.00 M33.
