Flash Comp Banner

Our forum's Flash Competition is coming to a close with all submissions in and voting closing soon. The competition was held just over a month ago on our forums, and we have several prizes to issue, yet not that many votes. So, I'm pleading that you take a few minutes of your time and review and vote on your favorite flash game or portal. I've taken the time to do much of the "dirty" work as to testing them all on my 1.50 PSP (Devhook emulation), so you really don't have to. Just vote on who you believe should win, and hopefully by the end of tomorrow we will have the winners announced and prizes distributed! Good luck to all those who have entered, and remember - Those who have been found as using duplicate accounts will be disqualified from the competition.

Poke the Penguin

PSP-Maniac, from our forums, wrote in his post that he has just recently learned how to code in C, but unfortunately, the muses of game coding hasn't given him any good ideas for a game he might develop. Deciding not to waste precious time waiting for that eureka moment to come, he instead turned his newly acquired skill to B4k4Zombie's psychotic penguin. He decided to port the game Poke the Penguin to C.

As all of you know, the effect is reversed in the PSP version of this original Flash game. Instead of the stoic penguin flipping out due to your constant poking, it'll be you that will lose your patience as you keep on pressing the X button and getting no reaction from a patient as a saint tuxedoed bird. But what the heck, it's a good alternative to a stress ball.

Installing the game would require the assistance of PSPBrew. Make sure that your PSP is connected to the PC and that you're inside the GAMES folder. Click on the Eboot file, then hit Save PBP. Copy all files from the old folder, except for the Eboot, into the two newly created folders. Place it inside the folder without the percent sign.

Thanks a bunch to kevin101 for the tip!

Frogs and Flies

Fuxer wrote, "i hope to see this on the main page someday" and I shall act as a fairy godmother and grant your wish. Your first flash game and your first ever at that for the PSP, goes right in the front page. If this game looks a tad bit familiar to you, it's because it's a remake of the 1982 videogame by Mattel for the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 of the same title, Frogs and Flies. The objective of the game is exactly what the title suggests. The frog that catches the most flies wins.

This is a flash game for ye 2.7 users and, according to the creator himself, "happy 1.50 devhook users". In the Atari version, the level starts out during the daytime and progresses until the nighttime, In Fuxer's version you are given 120 seconds before the computer reveals your score. He has also adapted a simple graphic style similar to Loco Roco.

Although, he mentioned that he will be moving on to C projects (which he called "serious" projects), he promises the following updates on his next release:
  • Enemy flies (if you eat them, you die)
  • A life system
  • Flies will fly higher and faster depending on level
  • Levels
  • Better gfx.

TeamOverload's Flash Competition

TeamOverload from our forums has started a 2.70 Flash Competition (for the Playstation Portable). This is much like Hardrive's competition earlier this month, but the reward has been improved, and hopefully more contestants will enter. I, as FrozenIpaq, am fully supporting this competition and hope that you will all enter who have knowledge of flash producing. We will be grateful for all entries received.

So, I'm proud to announce our forums first "official" flash competition. This competition will not only include applications and games, but also flash portals. Although, these will be split into two categories of Flash Portals and Flash Games/Applications. The contest was originally for portals, but we have extended it for all flash applications, but separated portals from games/apps to ensure a "fair" fight. So, now that you know there are two flash categories, you are probably wondering what the prizes are.

There are small prizes for each category which include -

Flash Portals -

1st Place - 25,000 forum points + Free Premium Membership + Free Custom User Title

2nd Place - 10,000 forum points + Free Custom User Title

3rd - 5,000 forum points OR Free Custom User Title.

Flash Applications/Games

1st Place - 25,000 forum points + Free Premium Membership + Free Custom User Title

2nd Place - 10,000 forum points + Free Custom User Title

3rd - 5,000 forum points OR Free Custom User Title.

Now, you are probably wondering how the voting/choosing is operated. This of course, will be where you come in. At the end of the competition we will have a forum poll that will allow all of our users to vote for who they think should win. So, the winners of the competition are not chosen by us, but you!

If you are interested in this contest, all of the requirements are listed after the jump or in the forum thread. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments or the thread, I will do my best to answer them.

[UPDATE] The deadline is now July 29th, this should be enough to make some good flash applications/games.

PSP Flash Selector v1.1

Nagogel has released version 1.1 of his Flash game/application selection tool for 2.7 PSPs. Flash Selector uses a unique menu system which allows easier selection of your flash games on your 2.7+ firmware PSP. It comes pre-packaged with several flash games that have been made specifically for the PSP to get you started on your way to 2.7 'homebrew' paradise. This has been made in order for 2.7 users to not feel left out in the development of homebrew for the PSP, as 2.7+ users are currently the only PSP users unable to launch homebrew games.

New for v1.1:
  • Hopefully this is the final version and hopefully someone with better html skills will take this idea and make it a little more usable
  • Flash games included are ones better integrated for the PSP
  • Moved games to a different folder to clean up the root of your memstick(save games to x:/PSP/FLASH)
  • Added labels for different sections in the HTML document to make it easier to use your own games( labeled by row and column so you know where the game will be on the menu)
  • Added links to various flash game websites
  • Edited the menu a bit and increased number of slots from 16 to 20
  • Slight modification to the background
  • A few minor changes
The readme included in the download has an extensive section on how to install this application. Be sure to Install all games to x:/PSP/Flash, or move them there if you have used a previous version of PSP Flash Selector. As you probably already know, firmware 2.7 is required to use this.

X Word Flash game

Jimmy has released a German language file for Shallan's X Word homebrew flash game for 2.7 PSPs. X Word is a crossword puzzle viewer, originally released back in May, that allows you to make your own puzzles and share them with others.  Simply replacing the CW.xml file in your X Word root directory will change the puzzle questions and answers.

Jimmy has made this for all those German PSP users out there, and this file covers computers, general knowledge, the PSP, and capital cities. This version has over 250 questions available for German users to spend hours on in order to complete the crossword. This is good for Germans and other nationalities alike, as I know full well pondering over these questions. I used to know a bit of German, and now I realise how little I do know!

Jimmy would like to thank the original creator of X-Word, Shallan, for all his hard work on this game, and making this German version possible. The original X-word is required, so please download it first if you have not done so. If you already have X Word installed, overwrite the existing CW.xml with the one provided in the German language file download.
