Sony PlayStation Portable - Image 1PSP Homebrew developer flatmush (creator of flAstro) dropped by the QJ.NET Forums earlier to announce the release of a new application, dubbed PBPCat. This application is built for other PSP developers and has been described as a substitute for bin2o. Here reads flatmush's full explanation:

PBPCat adds extra files into an EBOOT.PBP, and basically works as an alternative to bin2o in the way that it lets you store files within the eboot and allows you to read them back from within the program.
There is a small sample included, and the packer was compiled with mingw and only comes with a windows makefile. You should use the header files included with the sample to extract files.
This is a really simple program using the PBP file description found in YAPSPDoc.

Given that there isn't a readme included in the download bundle, we invite would-be users to drop by flatmush's release thread over at the QJ.NET Forums. There's an ongoing discussion at the said thread, which should provide for any info you'll need.

PSP homebrew developer flatmush dropped by our QJ.NET Forums to announce the release of flAstro. This homebrew game is a polished version of Astro Lander, where the player's goal is to land their rocket ship on colored panels without crashing. flAstro is an entry to the GBAX2007 homebrew competition.

Aside from providing three difficulty modes, flAstro also features Load/Save games, HiScores, Unlocks, In-Game Instructions, and unlockables. flatmush hasn't detected any bugs for the game's release. Controls, details, and other important information should be available in the archive's readme, as well as the author's thread here at our QJ.NET Forums.

FlatEditPSP v1.6.0 was developed by homebrew coder flatmush - Image 1FlatEditPSP v1.6.0 was developed by homebrew coder flatmush - Image 2

We literally had a barrage of homebrew games yesterday which by the way are all entries to NeoFlash's Summer Coding Competition 2007. For today, let us share with you another application which was entered in a different contest, PxP Homebrew Coding Compo. this homebrew application is called FlatEditPSP 1.6.0.

This handy app was actually created by homebrew coder flatmush. In case you're at a lost as to what this one is capable of doing, know that FlatEditPSP is basically a Notepad-like text editor for your PlayStation Portable (PSP). It comes though with a lot of cool features, including a slightly different keyboard.

Much have changed since the last release so you might want to browse through the comprehensive readme file that comes with the download. All features and details, including controls for FlatEditPSP v1.6.0 can be found there. But to give you a quick view of what's new with this version, here's the complete changelog for v1.5.0 to v1.6.0.

The changes between the first version to v1.5.0 are included in the Readme file as well.

Changelog for v1.5.0 to v1.6.0
  • Skin change (the old one is still included).
  • Skinning is now better supported.
  • Settings file now actually works.
  • Settings option now opens settings/settings.cfg and settings are no longer saved on exit.
  • Option to disable keyboard (pretty useless really).
  • Above changelog no longer lies!
  • Misc. bugfixes and tweaks.
  • Updated this readme again (Duh!).

FlatEditPSP - Image 1

Homebrew developer for the PSP, flatmush, has released a nifty application called FlatEditPSP v1.0.0. From the name itself, you may already have an idea what it does, but just to be clear, FlatEditPSP is a simple text editor for the PSP. It's basically like a notepad but with a slightly different and cooler keyboard.

So since this is the first time we're reporting about it, we'll hook you up with the basics. The instructions on how to use it (how to type in the letters, move the cursor etc.) are all in the comprehensive readme file that comes with the download. So if you really want to maximize the capabilities of this app, you better read up. On the left hand side of the app, you could see the quick key reference, so using this app would be very easy.

A few reminders from the dev. He says that you shouldn't try opening massive files (greater than 16MB). He also encourages you to use the menus for cut/paste because that would be easier. Since there is no undo feature in the app for now, make sure that you save as often as possible. For now, the insert function does nothing as it is not yet implemented and the file browser crashes mysteriously after a while. But rest assured that he is working really hard to perfect this app.

In the end, it all boils down to reading the readme file because it will really teach you a thing or two about FlatEditPSP. Download link's down there, have fun and hook us up with your comments.
