Obligatory safety and caveat warning: Accesses flash, writes to flash, use at own risk, can brick PSP. There is always the potential for a slipup that will end only in tears. We'll peg the pucker factor for this at over-max, something only agents with 00-status those who know what they're doing can safely work with, and everyone else is best advised to ask when they need help, here or in the forums.Okay, on to hallo007's newest revision to Flash Agent. The changelog details new menu options and a few bug fixes from the last version. Big change is the option to save up to 1.5MB (or maybe a bit more) of space in flash0 by disabling Japanese fonts.
Update: hallo007's just updated his app Flash Agent to D4, and although the changelog in this one's really short (we mean, really really short), we still find the change made so useful. In this revision, it's now possible to save up 2.5 MB flash memory. Really impressive, hallo007. So, go ahead and download Flash Agent D4 now. Download: [Flash Agent rev. D4] Discuss: [Forum Release Thread] |

In the wake of the recent PSX-P emulator release, Kando has been running around like a chicken in an IRC channel, uncovering (and confirming) some new information. This new information comes a few days after Fanjita's new eLoader (v0.995) and xLoader, and you guessed it, it uses the new eLoader to accomplish its feat! This feat is none other than the writing to Flash0 on your PSP. As of right now, custom gameboots have been flashed to a 2.80 PSP using xLoader (custom gameboots are illegally made, so please do not distribute them here). Kando used a certain program (which we will not reveal for the safety of our readers, bricking is highly possible) to read and write files to the Flash0 on his PSP! With flash0 access, the first thing that was tested was the gameboots, and it succeeded without any hiccups! You can watch a video of the custom gameboot below - So, now that we have this acccess, what can we do? With flash0 access, a user can create, and use custom gameboots, fonts, backgrounds and remove the signature wavy-thing on the PSP's XMB. As I am writing this article, several users (Freeplay, Jordan, Kando, NOPx86, vb_master, etc) are all discussing this new discovery and what they can potentially accomplish. |

We missed Birdman1. Every time we see "Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law", we can't help but think of him (well, either him or Phoenix Wright). Thanks to Trace, we got word that Birdman1's back and he's got more fontalicious PSP goodness for everyone with Birdman1's Font Pack v11. Unlike v10, which carried 175 different fonts, Birdman1's opted to take out the computer default fonts. All in all, that lessens the filesize somewhat but still gives you 135 fonts to choose from. The sourced page also mentions an additional app that lets you enable or disable the font hack in one go, but we'll leave that up for you to check out. Once again, we'd like to remind our PSP users to be careful with what they're doing when adding new homebrew onto your PSP. Always make sure to check the readme files included with the zipped folder so you know what you're getting into, because we won't be responsible if you brick your PSP by accident, alright? That being said, here is the changelog for v11 of the Font Pack. Don't forget to check the manual!

The Unique Warrior, from our forums, has updated his uFlash homebrew flashing tool for those using Dark_Alex's 2.71 SE firmwares. This version of uFlash has been updated to provide support for 2.71 SE-B custom firmware, so we would recommend you update to this version if you are using uFlash v1.50. Although uFlash 1.50 did work with 2.71 SE-B firmware, The Unique Warrior did brick his PSP using uFlash 1.50, and therefore he has released a 2.71 SE-B specific version which should prevent this from happening. Here's the changelog:

In our humble opinion, we think that people in the Graphic Design business who own PSP will find this application very useful. Say you're a graphic artist, and you make a living out of designing brochures and making custom fonts and stuff like that. If you've got a quick client meeting at a Starbucks somewhere and all you have to do is discuss with them the font you just made, no need to bring a laptop with you - all you have to do is reach for your PSP, fire up this App and show them the font you just made. LuaFont lets you use your PSP to view TTF Files. Developer JBird says that this App of his is based off of Nevyn and Shines Code from Lowser. Download [LuaFont: TTF browser] |

Okay, do us a favor. Open pspupdates on a new tab, and then go type the name of DEVHOOK Launcher/VSHEX Mod's developer on the search box. You'll see that Chunglam's been very busy. That's how many updates in how many days? Changes for Version 1.65b

Birdman1 has updated his handy font pack for the PSP. This new version includes over 175+ custom fonts for the PSP's Gui. This tool gives you the ability to change the default PSP font to your liking. With a custom background, and game loading screen, the font pack completes your custom PSP Dashboard experience. If you haven't played around with Fonts on your PSP it would be beneficial to completely read the included ReadMe.txt file and understand the steps required to run this application. If you enjoy this font pack make sure to leave Birdman1 feedback in his forum thread (link below) and tell him what you think. This recently updated version includes:

The exploit is by FreePlay, skylark, and TeamOverload. Installing it is quite tricky, so just make sure you go through the readme files first. If all else fails, you can find his YouTube site somewhere in one of the readme files so that you can watch the tutorial instead. Almost everything that you would need is already provided for in this pack, so here's what you can expect:
This is one really major pack that compiles everything together into one neat little bundle that everyone (and their own firmwares) can enjoy. Download: [Birdman1's Font Pack v9] |

We recently got an email from edog046, where he sent us a link to a
tutorial he wrote. Checking out the link, we thought it was kind of him
to share this with us, especially if you're not used to putting stuff
into your PSP or changing the normal settings.
So, for those who'd like to switch fonts on their PSPs, or simply want to have a reference point for the general idea of installing something on it, you might want to bookmark this for future reference. Now, let's see those instructions, shall we? 1) Download his Fonthack Noob Pack (see link below). 2) Extract to your PSP's memory stick. 3) The root of your memory stick should look like the picture below. The encircled files are the ones you just downloaded.
4) Your psp/photo folder should look like the picture below, with the encircled folder being the important thing to note. 5) Unplug your PSP and go to the photo section, and hit "x" on the fonthack folder. DO NOT HIT "START" OR RUN AS A SLIDE SHOW. 6) A black screen with writing should come up, hit "o" and count to ten, then hit "home." You can check out the rest of the tutorial after the jump.

FreePlay released TIFF Font Hack Installer v0.1 for PSP firmware 2.7-2.80 (2.0, 2.01, 2.5, and 2.6). Originally created by FreePlay, TeamOverload, and Skylark, the font hack enables PSP users to change the fonts on the PSP's home XMB screen. Other things you can play around with: italic, bold, shadow, and other style options for fonts. FreePlay says its one drawback is that you have to manually edit and fix your registry using some other tools they made. But they are working on ironing out this kink. To install: Copy the program to PSPPHOTO on your Memory Stick. To run the program: Highlight the 'fonthack' folder from your PSP's Photo menu, then press Start. To modify your registry:
FreePlay also says this app doesn't touch flash0 (only flash1)so there's absolutely no chance of bricking your PSP. Download: [TIFF Font Hack Installer v0.1] |
