Homebrew developer zx-81 seems to be tying down lot of homebrew releases lately. After finalizing PSPSIM, PSP7800, and PSPAtari, the Sony PlayStation Portable coder now offers the final version of PSPColem - the PSP's ColecoVision Emulator - now at version 1.1.1. Aside from a single bug fix, PSPColem v1.1.1 also comes with several performance refinements and feature sets.Download: PSPColem v1.1.1 final (3.xx) Download: PSPColem v1.1.1 final (1.50) Download: PSPColem v1.1.1 source code Visit: zx-81's Homebrew Releases in QJ.Net's Forums |

Here comes another update from homebrew developer StrmnNrmn on his pet project, Daedalus R11. We already shared with you the other day his hopes and plans for this release and this time, he took the opportunity and explained to fans what's happening in the emulator's development stage.
According to StrmnNrmn, he had already isolated the main culprit for eating up memory while the application is running. It is actually the mirrored texture support for 4- or 8-bit palettised textures. The developer explained that 64 4-bit palettised texture that took up 2KiB on the N64 would consume a huge 64KiB on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and that's a 32-fold increase. Furthermore, StrmnNrmn attributed the problem to the following reasons:
StrmnNrmn shared as well that he is trying to split the application's "daedalus.ini" into two files. Currently, Daedalus just has one file for this making it impossible for the coder to release a new version of daedalus.ini without wiping out people's local preferences. The first new file will be named "roms.ini" and it will contain global rom-specific details (e.g. rom's name, save type, comments, etc.). A new version of roms.ini will be released every time there's a new version of Daedalus. The next file will be "preferences.ini" and it will be generated when the first time you change some settings when playing a rom, and update it with any further changes that you make. This means that whenever you run a new version of Daedalus, the following settings will be retained: Texture Update Check; Frameskip; Limit Framerate; Dynamic Recompilation (used to over ride the setting in "roms.ini" if you're having problems with dynarec); Audio; Adjust Frequency; Controller. |

StrmnNrmn's got an update up on his blog regarding R10. According to his entry, he intends to keep his promise on releasing Daedalus R10 by the end of March. And with only but a night to go before we officially bid goodbye to March, we're thinking we could find R10 up and about by tomorrow. Hopefully. Anyhow, StrmnNrmn says that R10 will be smaller than R9. However, you'll be sure to find some great improvements, such as an approximate 10 to 15% speedup, frameskip, framerate limiting and stick deadzone tuning, and various small bugfixes. He says that he's giving himself until Sunday afternoon to have everything readied at the latest. Important to note also from this entry is that StrmnNrmn has said that the Expansion Pak support feature might not get to be included in R10. He says that although he's fixed that bug that's been keeping it from working, the obstacle now are the various memory issues it causes when enabled. And between delaying R10's release and forcing the Expansion Pak support,he'd rather have a go at R10 and disable the Pak support for now. Then he'll just make up for it by releasing R11 early. So there. That's all the update there is for now. But keep it locked right here, cos we're sure updates will be trickling in quick on StrmnNrmn's update pretty fast. And thanks to Thunderstrike and dylstermanster for the tip! |

Winnydows has just finalized Xvid4PSP v4.049, and we've now got it up for you as well. The application is basically free video conversion software, allowing you to switch vids to new formats on the fly for use with different players. In this case, you can either go for smaller file sizes or better quality depending on your video, your needs, and your patience for video conversion. We'll be listing the full changelog for 4.049 here as there seem to have been some changes along the way, including the removal of the MP4 PS3 output format. That being said, enjoy! Xvid4PSP 4.049 overall changes:
UPDATE: aDcOoL told us that Winnydows released XviD4PSP v4.1 Final recently. It's a good thing Winnydows himself told us it was coming, or we probably wouldn't have been checking it that often. That being said, he works very fast. XviD4PSP v4.1 doesn't have an actual changelog, but apparently, 4.049 Final crashes, so this should remedy that. There also happens to be a new layout as well, so you can enjoy a new layout with your conversion. As always, make sure you have up-to-date MS .net Frameworks to get this up and running properly, and enjoy! Download: [XviD4PSP v4.1 Final] |

Thanks to Zapla, we just found out that Winnydows made another revision to XviD4PSP. Now known as XviD4PSP 4.049 RC4, the app has a lot of changes and updates, as well as some additional tests that need to be done to refine the program. What we like about this video conversion software is actually related to how Winnydows updates it. There's a new build almost every week, and whenever there's a new achievement, we can't help but smile at the declarations of "small revolutions" to the application. Here are the list of changes and additions, with some edits for clarity. If you'll note some of the changes here, Winnydows is also asking for help in checking for bugs, so you'd do well to send him an email if you're using this version and encounter something unexpected. Enjoy the download, and have fun converting your vids.
Update: Well that was fast! It's now XviD4PSP 4.049 RC6! This update has three new things in store for users, so you guys may want to pick it up. As for the next revision, we'll just have to wait and see.
