In a week filled with industry news, we ended up with a rather sparse recap of the big PSP-specific news that graced the QJ.NET PSP blog. The PSP Go -- or rather, retailers who are feeling a bit miffed by Sony's decision to go download-only for the Go -- was there to pick up the slack. Game-wise, we got a couple more updates as Capcom gears up for this week's Monster Hunter Freedom Unite release as well as more import news and some pre-order goodies for Dissidia, as if fans didn't have enough reason to buy it. Despite fears that the on-going trend of digital distribution may be bad for retailers, analyst Arvind Bhatia of Sterne Agee believes that retailers and walk-in stores have nothing to worry about. At least not yet. Meeting with four key GameStop execs, the analyst shares his thoughts and predictions regarding digital downloads.

Just like Chaos and Cosmos fighting over control of the balance, Amazon and GameStop will be fighting over control of the Dissidia: Final Fantasy sales. If Cosmos called upon the Final Fantasy heroes to meet their Chaos nemeses, the two retailers will also have aces up their respective sleeves to turn the tide over to their side. If for some reason you're not able to download the demo of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite off of the PlayStation Network, you might want to stop by your local GameStop. They're giving away UMD versions of it.

When you hear that GameStop got swarmed, you'd think they broke the date on Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360), but then again, that game barely has a date. Anyway, unfortunately for the GameStop outlet in the Union Square Park area, it wasn't a swarm of customers looking to see if they've got inFamous, it was literally a swarm of bees that surely gave the Memorial Day Weekend quite a buzz.

Answering an earnings call, GameStop exec David W. Carlson reveals the release of four major titles by October and November. Noting that GameStop is a US retailer, the only conclusion we can make out of the info is that the release margins are for the US, and we can only speculate on how it's gonna be for other regions. Unfortunately for him, the answer might be a disappointing "no" now that 3D Realms has run out of money and can no longer continue the game's development.
