It feels like the calm before the storm is here. News has started to come in smaller amounts this week as we get closer and closer to next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Everybody's trying to keep their cards close to their vests so they can present the best E3 they can. Let's just all hope the awesome parts far outweigh the disappointing parts. Anyway, it may have been a bit of a slow news week, but that doesn't mean there was no news to speak of. Read on for the PSP Weekend Warrior.

We heard rumblings of a PSP game rental service on the PlayStation Network via a survey spotted yesterday, but apparently this has been in the works for longer than we thought.

Following all the hubbub surrounding GDC, this little tidbit was almost overlooked. During his Apple Store visit after his GDC keynote, Hideo Kojima hinted that Metal Gear Solid 5 might be announced during E3. Such a tease, that Kojima.

We had a conspicuous lack of updates for Gran Turismo 5 at GDC. ah, but we did have one itsy bitsy piece of news from SCEA's John Koller, who says that the game will be released when it "makes the most sense." He also suggested that it might be coming to more than one platform. Details after the link.

We've got an exceptionally news-filled week for issue #65 of the QuickJump QuickPeek, thanks in part (a whole lot) to the recently-concluded GDC that happened in San Francisco. There were a lot of announcements and revelations, both inspiring and jaw-dropping alike. Yep, it's looking like it's gonna be yet another good year for gaming.

So, any of you want to place bets on what the big three will announce/reveal during E3 2009? A new PSP model, perhaps? More exclusive games for the Xbox 360? The new Zelda game for the Wii? Will the new Team ICO game finally be unveiled? Will there be pricecuts? Synchronize your clocks, folks! Here we have the press conference schedules of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo!

After about two hours of speaking in GDC, Hideo Kojima ended his keynote with an interesting slide. Yet again, he's teasing this next installment in the Metal Gear franchise. Note from the picture below that the "S" is included after the "MG". Also, I'm pretty sure you can clearly see that dude with the sword at the top corner. See, I told you placeholder release dates from retailers aren't always official. Despite the previous news of Gamestop listing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with an August release, the game is now revealed to be coming in sooner! And hey would you look at that: new screens for MHFUnite, and it's got a giant. enemy. CRAB! (sort of)

The nominations are in, the tallying's over, and the GDC 09 Developers' Choice Awards have come and gone. The big winners this year were Fallout 3, which got the Game of the Year award, and LittleBigPlanet, which won in 4 different categories. The tail-end of the awards ceremony even had a little surprise in the form of a trailer for one of the most highly-anticipated sequels in recent years. Details after the jump!
