oil me up, eh? - Image 1So that little post on Ratchet and Clank not working supposedly with custom firmware sure caused some feathers to be ruffled, eh? Well for those of you still having problems getting it to work, this post right here will hopefully kiss all your woes goodbye.

gunntims0103 has posted over at DCEmu his solution to this glitch. According to him, it is confirmed to work as long as you have your configuration in the recovery menu of your custom firmware set up correctly. Okay... so what IS the correct setting? Thankfully, gunntims0103 wasn't out to tease you unfortunate folks who can't get it to work.

Here are the correct settings, according to him:

configuration
Game folder homebrew (currently: 3.XX Kernal)
Use NO-UMD (currently:disabled)
Fake region (currently:America)
Free UMD region(currently Enabled)

Advanced
-advanced configuration-
Plain modules in UMD/ISO (currently: Enabled)

CPU Speed
Speed in UMD/ISO (currently:333)

**apparently some user's use 266mhz, try that. I'm using 333mhz and its running perfectly.)

Plugins
All Disabled!

Oh, and supposedly, the infrastructure in the game still does not work on Custom Firmware. It is, however, rumored to be a perfect fit on DevHook.

splodger15 is back with a whole load of new updates for PSP Turismo. Thanks to input from "family Beta testers," the speed in PSP Turismo was deemed too fast and was changed. There is a new speed change feature, though: when you move up a level, the speed increases.

Scoring and Health have also been added to this release, as well as a feature that lets you go back to the map while playing the game. The music option was removed from this version, as according to splodger15, it took up too much room. Future releases will give players a choice to download either a music-option-free version or one with the music option enabled.

Here's a list of what else is new:
  • map code added (thanks to gunntims0103 for helping out with map code)
  • added map pic
  • added option to pick a circuit
  • added circuit selection sprites
  • added scrolling ability through circuit sprites
  • Scoring (Goes up every car you pass)
  • Health (If health reaches 0 gameover)
  • Gameover screen
  • Code compiled to stop theft
  • Levels have been added
  • New menu graphics
  • 3 different tracks added
  • Added Writing to the screen to tell you what level you are on.
  • Fixed a bug in the scrolling
The next release will include a car select option as well as a high score option. For bug reports and suggestions, click on the "discuss" link below. Please note that while the archive is named "PSPTurismoV0.zip", it in fact contains v0.4.

PSP Drug Lord

Still fresh from releasing the popular PSP Encyclopedia v0.1, gunntims0103 has come by our forums to provide an update to a game originally released by JNJC back in May. The name of the game's PSP Drug Lord, and the game involved drug trafficking, trying to make as much money as you can in as little time, not getting caught by the cops, and of course, staying alive throughout the game. The aim is to buy drugs when the price is just right and then selling them at a higher price when the demand for them is high, much like the game dope wars for PC or for Java-enabled phones.

gunntims0103's update to this game (as he humbly admits) simply adds an improved refresh rate for greater gameplay and 1.0 and 1.5 EBOOT, as PSP developing wasn't as advanced back in May when the game was originally released as it is nowadays. Becoming a successful Drug Lord isn't all that easy, so here's a few tips we had from the original release for completing this homebrew game:
  • There are money lenders in the game, and they will help you with your cash problems. Just be sure that you pay them back on time as they don't like late payers.
  • You need around $50 a day for you to be able to survive on the street. If you run out of cash, you'll have to sleep on the streets and eventually, this will take a toll on your health.
  • Shopping for self-protection is very important in this game. There are other individuals and groups out there that are also dealing like you, and they'd want you out of business to make some more money for themselves.
  • Money is essential in this game, especially since you'll need cash to get yourself treated in the hospital after every encounter with other street dealers.

What's this? a Tabula Rasa encyclopedia?gunntims0103 has been working on turning the PSP into a pocket (well, vest pocket) database. Of course, released in DCEmu at v0.1, PspEncyclopedia isn't exactly an encyclopedia yet. Not with twelve assorted categories (see below for what they are) so far plugged into this thing's file library. At the least even at first build it is workable, slightly unwieldy, and it does put the world of offline information in that vest pocket of yours.

On the other hand, if he's going to thank Wikipedia for "providing a lot of information," he also better be prepared for revisions every three months, or per vandalized page or neutrality dispute, whichever comes first. Especially with gunntims0103 planning on dropping 40 more assorted categories for the next couple of builds. Anyway, what's in this encyclopedia (Sora not included):
  • American History
  • Lua coding
  • C/C++ coding
  • Japanese History
  • Evolution Theory
  • Christianity
  • Buddhism
  • Hinduism
  • Islam
  • Judaism
  • European History (just a bit)
  • Big Bang Theory
Teachers will still frown on students bringing their PSPs out "to consult the encyclopedia" though. Next thing you know, Encyclopedia Britannica comes out in UMD format...

PSP Turismo

PSP Turismo reminds me of this old racing game that I used to play when I was a kid. In that game, you drove a red Ferrari.  It had a top-down view (the course went vertical instead of sideways though), and at one point in the game, Superman makes a cameo in the form of a fly-by. I seem to remember that it was for the NES, but I couldn't find anything on the net about it, so my memory could just be playing a trick on me.

Anyway, here's the latest version of PSP Turismo by Splodger15 (with help from gunntims0103). Here's the changelog for V0.31:

  • changed the road background looks more realistic now
  • fixed bug on the menu
  • added new menu
  • added new credits screen
  • added new instructions screen
  • added the start, credits, and instruction options to menu background
  • new psp 1.5 icon
  • various unneeded code deleted
If you want to change the game's music, just rename the mp3 file you want to use to Music.mp3 and place it in the PSPTurismoV0.31 folder. Splodger15 says that the next release will be PSP Turismo Christmas Edition which will be released closer to Christmas, so keep checking back here for that one.

pspturismo

Some of you guys have been saying that you've lost all hope in UMD games for your beloved PSPs. What with delayed releases, the extra expenses, and whatnots, it's really all too easy to just resign to the kickass homebrew games you can get for free. And with games like splodger15's latest release - PSP Turismo - hell, we won't even try to blame you for feeling that way.

As you can probably tell from the screenshot, the objective of the game is to get past the other vehicles by dodging them and manipulating your car using the D-pad. As compared to the previous version, v0.3 now has music (splodger15 thanks mavsman4457 for the tracks chosen), the difficulty is increased, and the game is now in eboot format.

Also, splodger15 has fixed the bug where the cars didn't know their x and y positions. He gives credit to a lot of people who helped him out: cools, for his mp3 Lua player mod, gunntims0103 for the menu, lmtlmt for help with the controls on the first release, and Benh for helping with the collision.

splodger15 also says that he's sorry if he forgot to mention anyone who helped out and if so, contact him so that he'll be able to give you a shout out in his next release.

To do:
  • Map feature to be added
  • Different music tracks
  • Fix a bug in the menu

sora adventure

I once said that it's always worth writing about homebrew games eventhough they are still at their early stages and are still not playable because it's sure nice knowing that someone's actually making an effort to make a game everyone can enjoy in the future...and for free (boy, do I love homebrew!). Hence, here I am again, writing about a homebrew game I'm sure PSP owners and Kingdom Hearts lovers will be looking forward to.

Gunntims0103 tries his hand at creating a LUA game with Sora Adventure v0.1. The game still has no storyline and is not yet fully playable. So far, this release has Kingdom Hearts protagonist Sora running around the woods.

The author hopes he can stick around to developing this game long enough to see the following goals realized: putting Sora's sprite out of the black block, integrating levels together, changing Sora's clothing and the keyblades, and adding "companions" that will follow your character in the game. There are also other things gunntims0103 would like to add in Sora Adventure like AIs for enemies, attacks for Sora, main menu, a storyline, music, and multiplayer functions.

Since this is gunntims0103's first attempt at LUA and doesn't know all the LUA codes, he is welcoming any help that can be extended to him, especially help with regards to making AIs and a main menu. He's already had help with the sprite and background from Shadowblind.

If you want to see how the game looks right now, feel free to download (link below) and be sure to leave your comments so gunntims0103 will know what else you'd like to see in this game. Enjoy!
