My god, that's a humongous...list. QJ.Net Forum resident owfx dropped by earlier to announce the release of the 3.30oe/3.40oe theme pack (final), a compendium of some of the PSP's more well-known XMB themes for custom firmwares 3.30 and 3.40 OE.Aside from carrying 32 full-blown themes, this pack also carries custom icons, volume bars, font sets, XMBWaves, and a theme flasher in case the users wish to mix-and-match their own sets. We'll provide for a list of the files below in case you guys want to scan what's in the pack. Just make sure to have a bit of space handy when you begin your download - the bundle will go for about 34MB. Enjoy, and make sure to thank owfx via the QJ.Net Forums for making this bundle! And of course, kudos to all the developers who went through the pains of creating all these themes - our hats off to you!

The PSP's XMB aesthetics is the topic of this article, as we serve up another trio of custom themes just waiting to be loaded into your PSP. Today's themes are from homebrew coders innercy, undertaxxx, and desi_soulja8, and are titled Original XMB+, Bogus Firmware Theme, and Pirate Style XMB. Original XMB+ First up is innercy's Original XMB+ icon theme. PSP owners may feel a tinge of nostalgia after seeing the sample shot above - innercy states that these are the same icons you see when you turn on your PSP for the very first time. The Original XMB+ theme comes in either a white or black set. Bogus Firmware Theme This XMB theme, as undertaxxx explains, is themed after a bogus firmware that Sony launched back on November 25, 2005 in Japan. The author further commented that this pack is the completed version of a similar "Bogus fw" that had reached 90% completion before he decided to cancel it. Pirate Style XMB Given that Pirates of the Carribbean: At Worlds End movie is coming up soon, desi_soulja8 over at the QJ.Net Forums decided it was high time to release this theme. As its name says, it's a Pirates XMB theme which uses 32-bit icons. Downloads for each theme are available below - just be sure to back up your files in case anything happens. Also make sure to visit each of these author's threads over at the QJ.Net Forums, as they're looking for suggestions on how to make these themes better. That, and they should provide for pointers on how to install these themes to your PSP. Enjoy your download. It seems that we've slowed down a bit on theme releases, however there are still a plentiful amount of creative minds out there that continue this hot trend. Having been through the unveiling of custom backgrounds (before firmware 2.0) and customized eboots, it's nice to see the PSP finally "fully" customizable. Today we feature two complete themes and two working-in-progress (WIP) theme for your enjoyment. Mime, from our forums, has recently finished two versions of his Naruto Ultimate Theme. Naruto, a popular anime that has recently emerged in America and is still going strong in Japan has gathered a large following and has even emerged as a game on the PSP in Japan. Mime has done a great job in incorporating the village headbands as the main icons and varying sub-icons for the Network and Game section in version 2 of the theme. Version 1 of this theme features only a few non-headband icons while Version 2 features different icons under the Network and Game tabs. The themes also both feature custom coldboot wave, text and sound. So whether or not you choose v1 or v2 is all up to personal preferences of the headbands or not, but both look great nonetheless. You can look at the differences in the release thread of this great theme here and make your decision. You can read about undertaxxx's PSP Restyled Silver Theme, and AndroidKaita's Orange Theme after the break. These two themes both alter the original PSP XMB's icons to their liking, one even attempting to clone the PS3's XMB icons as they appear to be slightly different from those of the PSP. We got word that Xploren's released a new version of his well-kn own Black32 XMB Theme. It's got some new features, and he does note a fix to the current problem of it disabling PSX emulators. Here's what he had to say about Black32 XMB Theme - encore 4: Black32 has been updated to encore4 [Mar.5th]. It now has new Game and Photo menu loading icons, the Small Italics font, choices between no opening/gameboot logo, and new Black Rhizura icons by innercy. More updates are on the way. The same precautions apply to this version though. Check the readme, remember that this can brick PSPs, and know that you're installing this at your own risk. Note that this also won't work with 3.10 OEs and you should be okay. As for taking care of that PSX emulation problem, you can also visit the second PSP forum below called "Custom Coldboot + PSX Emu" for more information. UPDATE #2: We were contacted by Squid_Lord, one of the creators of this XMB theme. He mentions that he isn't the creator of the main icons, rather they were made by a guy named "optics". Squid_Lord would also want to clarify that he created the font, background, volume bar, and he basically presented the theme idea for wraitalchemist. We just want to give credit where credit is due. You guys could also check out Squid_Lord's thread for his theme through the link below. View: PSP Mods and Media Forum We can't get enough of custom XMB themes right now. Ever since the release of the RCO Icon Editor which has made it so much easier to create custom XMB's, just about every PSP developer on the planet has had a go at customizing their PSP, and giving you the option to install their themes yourself. This theme comes from wraithalchemist, and if you haven't guessed yet it's a theme based on the Xbox 360 game Gears of War. Wraithalchemist doesn't want to take credit for what he hasn't done, as the icons included in this theme come from innercy and squid_lord, with wraithalchemist re-coloring the icons with a red tint to make them resemble Gears of War. I must say, as a bit of a Gears of War fan this theme does bare a striking resemblance to the actual game. Enjoy! Download: Gears of War XMB Theme Visit: PSP Mods and Media Forum Update: The download link has been fixed. Sorry for the technical problem. In the future, those of you who can't wait for the link to be fixed can go to the QJ.NET Forums thread (forums.qj.net) and grab the files there or go to dl.qj.net and search for the file. Again, sorry for the broken link, and thanks, maxid, for bringing the broken link to our attention. |

Xploren's just dropped us a line saying that the black32 XMB theme has been updated to encore 2. This version now includes a custom opening logo and a spiffy new gameboot logo. Xploren also says that more updates are on the way, so keep checking back here on QJ or on the QJ forums for the latest.
Black32 is a collection of custom XMB themes. It includes a custom background, volume bar, battery icons, and a lot more. Here's a short list of the people who've contributed to black32: innercy (icons), Hooverphonic (MaDSouL) (volume and battery icons), [Unknown] (loading circle), BearColin (original background). The wave as well as the opening and gameboot logos were done by xploren. This theme will work on all OE firmwares with the exception of 3.10 OE. Remember, read the included readme file closely before you install this theme. If you have suggestions or bug reports, head on over to the QJ forums by clicking on the forum link below. Remember undertaxxx? Well, if you you could recall those XMB battery edits that you've grown so fond of, then you probably have heard of this guy because he is the creator of those mods. Anyhow, going through our forums, we were informed that he has concocted another way to pimp your PSP's XMB - the "ultimate" black PSP XMB. Check out the screens we got here:
Anyhow, undertaxxx mentioned that this was originally made by Sérgio Catumba and Innercy, but he decided to re-style everything on the XMB so that it would look perfect with the high-res icons. The package includes the following:
