Prx Flasher Edition v1.0 (English) - Image 1

Forum member deadzone has released an English version of PrxFlasher, a new homebrew app that lets you change what applications launch from your PSP's XMB, over on our PSP Development forums. PrxFlasher has only been tested in 3.03 OE. Also, this app modifies your PSP's Flash0 so be very careful when using it.

Here's a short list of what PrxFlasher can do. For the ones that point towards "EBOOT.PBP" below, you will be able to put whatever Eboot that you want to launch in those folders.
  • The OnLine Help (htmlviewer_plugin.prx) is now redirected to http://www.ebuddy.com/, that it would be the PSP Messenger.
  • Location Free Player (lftv_plugin.prx) Shuts down (R+X) and makes a reset (X) to the PSP when pressing the icon.
  • Network Update (Update_plugin) is redirected to ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCEAPP1/EBOOT.PBP
  • Remote Play (premo_plugin.prx) is redirected to ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCEAPP2/EBOOT.PBP
  • License Plug-In (license_plugin.prx) is redirected to ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCEAPP3/EBOOT.PBP
  • Camera (camera_plugin.prx), is redirected to ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCEAPP4/EBOOT.PBP
  • NetPlay Client (netplay_client_plugin.pr x), is redirected to ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCEAPP6/EBOOT.PBP
  • This program also can restore backups that were created before
Again, please be careful when using this app. Check the readme file included in the download before you install it and make sure to create backups of your old PRX. Watch the video demonstration below for a closer look at how it works. If you have any questions or bug reports, click on the "Visit" link.

While we ourselves aren't quite sure how useful this ultimately is, we have to admit that a number of us here at QJ found it cool anyways. QJ reader nano alerts us to this YouTube video where YouTube user obiwan222222 claims been able to play the Wii on his PSP using Location Free support.

Observe:

Yes, we can hear it now. Some of you folks are probably thinking fake already. Well, given that he just seems to be using his PSP as a monitor, and isn't really doing anything more complicated than that, we'll leave the debunking to you folks.

Anyway, on the chance that this isn't fake, the only handy application that comes to mind is that this might serve as a great solution if in case your Wiimote strap just snapped, and you're in desperate need of a screen.

PSP - Image 1Homebrew dev Team 280 is back and they brought with them a nice, nifty app that can prove to be useful to us all. Well, the program doesn't have an official name, but it is a prx that launches the recovery mode or even an EBOOT.

Included in the download is the rockddr program which launches the recovery mode. The prx that calls rockddr. An easy flasher was included so that you can flash the prx into Network Update or Location Free Player. The program is rather easy to install but before you do, make sure that you are using 3.03 OE or 3.10 OE.

Before we proceed, we believe that an application like this deserves a name, don't you think so? Calling Team 280, calling Team 280...

TheKetchupMan, a member of Team 280, mentioned that it is theoretically possible that this runs as well with 3.02 OE. With that said, here's what you should do and a couple of reminders from Team 280:
  • Unzip to the root of your PSP.
  • Launch the Update Flash to flash the PRX to the Network Update.
  • DO NOT move the GAME / GOTORECOV folder. Otherwise, the prx will not work.
  • You need to be in 1.5 kernel.
  • We may probably done a self prx (which does not need the rockddr prog) if we can.
Lastly, Team 280 said that this program has been tested for a while now and is pretty much stable. But then again, there's always that small chance of bricking. As always, you are at your own risk whenever you use homebrew.

app screenshot - Image 1

This comes as an update for the VSH Rebooter PRX v0.2 app that MaTiAz released yesterday. He's re-releasing v.02 without the installer that came with the original bundle, meaning installation will once again be done manually. According to MaTiAz, people were attempting to run the bundle's topmenu_plugin.rco flasher, despite topmenu_plugin.rco being nonexistent in the PSP. He apologizes for any problems the miscommunication may have caused.

For those not exactly up to speed on this brew, Rebooter PRX reboots your PSP from the Network Update menu or Location Free TV menu. The plug-in also allows you to shuts down your PSP by hold the "L" button while selecting the Network Update/Location Free TV icon.

For now, we advise going through the README to hear the complete explanation for this change. Also be sure to check out VSH Rebooter PRX v0.1 for details on the installation. We'd like to thank MaTiAz for the heads-up.

VSH Rebooter PRXMaTiAz either has a lot of time in his hands or he sure is one fast coder. After releasing VSH Rebooter PRX v0.1 just two days ago, he's back with a bumped up version of his homebrew app, a plug-in for PRX devs.

The updates for this version may not be a lot but they're stiill definitely helpful, especially now that v0.2 comes with an installer (he added this because a lot of you guys were asking how-to's). So anyhoo, whaddya say we get this show on the road and bring you the all-important...

Changelog:
  • Included an easy installer, which can install the PRX to Network Update or Location Free TV (or both if you like). Read the notes about the installer though.
  • The Reboot PRX can now shut down the PSP too, hold L while selecting Network Update -> shutdown
As mentioned, this comes with an installer so installation should be a breeze. However, make sure you check out the installation notes just in case you're relatively new at this and not really sure about what you're doing. To install, just follow these steps:
  1. Copy the rbprxinst folder to /psp/game/ like you would with any other homebrew (GAME, not GAME150 or GAME302)
  2. Launch the Reboot PRX Installer
  3. If you don't know what to do after these steps, you should NOT be using this or trying to install this.
As for warnings, precautions, and whatnots, let's get 'em straight from MaTiAz himself:

this program comes with NO WARRANTY AT ALL, so follow the instructions so you're safe. I'm not responsible for bricks, and I doubt there will be any, except for because of user stupidity (which I doubt will happen either).

Well, there ya have it. But before you go fiddling around your PSPs, know that the readme file was put there for a reason so go use it, okay? MaTiAz would like to give a shout out to "TUW, Mathieulh, kando, harleyg, Coldbird, Dark_AleX and lots of other people I've forgotten at lan.st and other places".

PSPIt's been a while since we've seen teasers of Team FWi's 3.01SE, which is basically a 2.71 SE-C with 3.01 bits thrown in for the extra VSH functions. And while this might not seem much after looking at the latest Devhook, you have to remember that this has been in the works since quite a long time. Plus, when you run this, it flashes the 3.01 bits to your PSP so that the result is a seamless mix of 2.71 SE-C and 3.01.

Here's the list of features in this version:
  • 1.00/1.50 eboots
  • 2.xx/2.71 eboots (Remember theres no such thing as 3.xx eboots YET!)
  • ISO/CSO loading from XMB (no-umd as well)
  • MP3 Visualizer
  • Video Player
  • Photo Viewer
  • System Settings (Power Save menu cannot be accessed, also causes first time run problems.)
  • UMD Auto-Start Setting
  • USB Connection (Mass Storage)
  • WiFi (Ingame, as there is nowhere else to use it.)
  • Anything that has yet to be mentioned.
Since this is more of a hack job, a few things are non-working for now. We hope they can fix it in their upcoming releases. Here's a list of not-working things:

You have to make sure that you install it on a freshly installed 2.71 SE-C. This is the only install method.

For the full instructions and notes, make sure to check out the readme.

PSP Firmware UpdateLike a sudden tight slap to the face of all PSP homebrewers, Sony has come out with the newest firmware update, v2.82. You won't find them on the official sites yet, because they're yet to be updated. But talking to zshadow, it seems that the updates are being rolled out right now through the Network Update feature.

Here's what's new in the latest homebrew-less PSP firmware:
  • Ability to play Flash content in the Internet Browser (Connection to internet required for license)
  • Connection Settings added under Settings in Internet Browser
  • Ability to save content added in RSS to Memory Stick
  • Automatic has been added under Rate in Location Free Player
  • UMD Video L/R button added under Video Settings in Settings
  • Ability to disable Chapter Skip feature of the L/R Buttons (UMD Video)
  • New playable extension - AAC
  • Simplified Chinese, Tradition Chinese added as new languages
  • RSS channel Settings added in Settings
  • Demos can now be downloaded from Browser and saved on Memory Stick
  • Video output can now be displayed correctly when an external tuner is selected in Location Free Player
  • Ability to download Video and Image content under RSS Channel
  • Ability to register devices via a wireless LAN access point under Location Free Player
  • Ability to play AAC files with .3gp extension under Music
  • Ability to play content saved in MUSIC, PICTURE and VIDEO folders on a Memory Stick
  • Added security strengthening revisions.

Update:
Everything except for the last change has been present in firmware 2.80 and 2.81. The only thing which is new in this update is the bolded part, i.e. added security revisions. Although, when you do run the update, you will see the exact list which is present here. Our apologies for the confusion. And even though it's quite obvious, let us get one thing straight shall we?

You will not be able to use any homebrew on firmware 2.82.

Please do not rest your hopes on anyone cracking it soon.

In case you're still hell bent on shutting down homebrew on your PSP, you can download them for your respective region below. Though, once your PSP stops booting homebrew, remember.....We told ya!

Location Free support for the PSP has been around since firmware 2.50, but the high price of the Location Free devices has always been an issue. A lot of people haven't been able to try it out and see for themselves how the whole thing works on their PSPs.

That's all about to change though, because thanks to YouTube, there is now a video that shows the Location Free - PSP interface as well as explain a few things about the interface. Kevin Lim, the guy who made the video, gives a meticulously detailed guide on setting up Sony's Location Free player, shedding some much-needed light on timeshifting and placeshifting in the process.

For a taste of Location Free in action, check out the video below. Oh, and the video's author offers this errata on his vid's YouTube page: "Towards the end of the video, I meant to say 16:9 screen aspect, not 14:9."

Enjoy, guys.

System Update

Just like Sony promised, the 2.80 Firmware is out! Although not yet listed on all the regional PSP sites, a lot of news tips are coming in that the update is live through the Network Update function in the PSP.

It seems that the Japanese site has already updated their PSP page to reflect the latest firmware download. The US and Euro sites are slower I guess. Courtesy of our resident Blogger/Translator, we now have the official list of updates in the latest firmware. Here they are:

[Network]
  • In [RSS Channel], the download function for animation contents and image contents is now supported.
  • In [Location Free Player], it is now possible to login via wireless LAN access point.

* The details about Location Free Base Station can be found at: http://www.sony.co.jp/locationfree/psp/

[Music]
  • AAC files in ".3gp" extension can now be played.
[Misc]
  • Supporting saving to "MUSIC", "PICTURE" and "VIDEO" folders in "Memory Stick Duo".
  • Adding the next downloadable game demo to the "Memory Stick Duo".
  • "Tama Run" demo version download page (on 18:00 August 31, 2006)

Since their site is getting hammered by all the extra bandwidth, we have mirrored the US, UK, EU, AU/NZ and Japan Update Eboots here. We will also be adding update files for other regions as soon as we can; please bear with us for the meanwhile. You can still upgrade your PSPs using either the US, EU or JP eboots. Thanks to 0okm for finding the links to different updates!

Thanks go to wekilledbambi03 for enlightening us about Sony's desire to get our opinion in this new survey. The survey covers Sony's line of time shifting products, including the Location Free TV Base Station.

The PSP, PS3 and other devices that you can stream content to using a Sony Location Free Base Station are also covered in the survey. The pace proceeds based on your answers to the questions so the length of the survey will vary accordingly. There are also questions about how we use products like TIVO and how much we are willing to pay for the service. I know sometimes it all seems pointless, but the least we can do is try to tell them what we want!

It doesn't take more than five minutes to complete the survey and overall it doesn't seem to be too biased. Here is a sample of the survey questions you will find from Sony.

More survey questions can be seen in the Full Article!
