In light of Majesco Entertainment's recent financial concerns, the Nintendo DS may prove to be a godsend. This explains why a lot of their more recent releases, whether developed in-house or published by them, including the recent F-24 Stealth Fighter and the iconic Cooking Mama (*flaming eyes*) have appeared on the DS.In an interview with Gamasutra, senior product Manager Liz Buckley cites the low costs for developing DS games and the platform's wide installed base as advantages for Majesco. "Majesco recently refocused its product line on more affordable, lower risk titles with mass appeal. DS development is much less expensive which allows us to risk less and ultimately be more profitable." We can guess it's almost the same reason why they're focusing on the Wii, too, though Liz doesn't mention any reasons that refer to the Wii. Buckley was quick to point out that simply because the DS (and the Wii) offer a more cost-effective strategy for publishing, it doesn't mean that they'll be phasing out support on other platforms (*flaming eyes*) - in particular the PSP. She did not mention anything in the works on that handheld, though. And it's not too long ago that Majesco had to let go of Advent Shadow and the PSP Bloodrayne (*flaming eyes*). And it seems that 2K Games' Ghost Rider (which has a PSP appearance) originally belonged to Majesco, until it sold the rights to the IP last year. A company does sit on its bottom line, though. We just hope the need to get back in the black and earning money doesn't keep Majesco from getting good titles out... even and especially for the PSP. |

CEA to the rescue? Yeah, we here at QJ are still pretty bummed with the news about the changes in E3, but it looks like the Consumer Electronics Association is planning to be our shoulder to cry on as they are seriously considering the viability of a new consumer and trade event for the games industry. After that ESA decision to morph E3 to into the E3 Media Festival, CEA believes there's a gap in the industry calendar which they are planning to fill with a freshly designed event based on feedback from the electronic entertainment industry. CEA president and CEO, Gary Shapiro said that "since ESA decided to eliminate the E3 event in its known format, we have been deluged with inquiries on whether we could fill the tradeshow needs of smaller video entertainment companies. Our executive board met yesterday and unanimously asked staff to explore ways that we can help the gaming community." The possibility of an E3-like extravaganza from CEA will be decided by the advisory committee led by CEA executives Karen Chupka and Dan Cole with support from companies including Auravision, Majesco Entertainment and NCsoft. For now, things are looking optimistic, according to Ms. Chupka, "a major goal of this advisory committee is to generate gaming community feedback on how best to meet the needs of the industry...As long as there is desire and commitment, we are ready to service this community and will begin looking at venues in Las Vegas and Los Angeles and for appropriate partners." So what's your take in all these? Do you think the planned CEA event could fill the large gap left behind by E3? What do you want to see in the CEA event? Tell it to us through your comments. |

Guilty is what the Japanese should feel because they are getting the lion's share of the tons of Guilty Gear Judgment features. First, Judgement mode includes two player co-op over ad hoc as well as Survival mode. Second, unlike what appears to only be #Reload in the US version, the Japanese version has a 100% port of Slash included with ad hoc play and all modes and galleries from the PS2 version. Even if you're not familiar with the Japanese language, the site provides a lot of media for you to look at. There's what seems like an introduction to the game's storyline, followed by profiles of the characters. There are also quite a number of gameplay videos on streaming for you to feast your eyes on. Downloadable contents like wallpapers for your computer and PSP inspired by the game is also available. Guilty Gear Judgment will be available in Japan on August 24, 2006. |
