CSP Development Studio v3.1 - Image 1The most recent version of CSP Development Studio by PSP homebrew developer ManiacX was supposed to be the last, but it had issues that made ManiacX release a patch even after retiring from the development scene. CSP Development Studio version 3.1 fixes several bugs that v3.0 had troubles with.

CSP Development Studio is a Windows-based application for aspiring developers who want to make homebrew for the Sony PlayStation Portable. Installation is very easy, since you'll only have to run an executable file that installs the PSP homebrew app.

ManiacX didn't include a Readme file in the download, but provided a changelog on his release thread in the QJ.Net Forums. Here are the changes for v3.1:
  • No more double dots when adding new files
  • First line of code not covered up by plugins menu anymore
  • Fixed all bugs related to text editor
  • Fixed bug stopping psplink from working properly
  • Fixed about page message
  • Fixed Web Browser Bugs
  • Added ads (Can be disabled. See below)
ManiacX made it clear that this isn't a new version but just a patch for version 3.0 of the homebrew app CSP Development. Those who intent to use this patch should first install version 3.0.

CSP Development Studio screen - Image 1It's sad to say, but another homebrew developer is leaving the homebrew scene. ManiacX is quitting after the release of CSP Development Studio version 3.0. Among his reasons for leaving were school obligations, acquiring a new 360 with plans to make developments there, Fanjita's retirement, and the lack of appreciation for all the hard work from ungrateful people.

ManiacX will be leaving something behind for the homebrew community though. The app CSP Development Studio is a Window-based IDE for PSP homebrew developers looking for an easy-to-use application.

Like the previous CSP v2.2 release, a readme file isn't available, which means you'll have to find out what's new and what's been fixed in this latest version. What the dev tells us about the app though, is that a version of Cygwin is integrated with support for libraries.

Apparently, you'll need 500MB of free disk space and 512MB RAM to run this version of CSP at minimum. Further updates in the future will be provided by a different homebrew developer called Blade Hunter.

PSP Easy Disassembler - Image 1ManiacX has released the PSP Easy Disassembler, which is a GUI for Booster's PSP disassembling program.

For those who don't know what this does, a disassembler is a computer program that translates the machine language in a file or program into the assembly language used to create it. Programmers use it mostly for reverse-engineering purposes. That being said, it's not going to be the kind of homebrew that laymen will be able to use.

ManiacX notes, however, that there's a chance he might include this in the next release of CSP Development Studio, so programmers should keep their fingers crossed for that. Other than that, please remember that you'll need .Net Framework 2.0 for this app to run.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (image from https://secureus.playstation.com) - Image 1

Heads up, Gabe Logan fans. QJ.NET reader ManiacX has informed us that PlayStation Underground members are being given the chance to grab a free game demo of Gabe Logan's latest adventure, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow.

It's pretty easy to get one, too. All you need to do is click here to get to the Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow registration page and log in with your PlayStation Underground account. If you're not a member yet, you can also register on the same page.

Supplies are limited, so act fast. The full version of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow for the Sony PSP handheld system is reportedly slated for a fall release.

CSP Development Studio from ManiacX - Image 1Homebrew application CSP Development Studio is really helpful especially for those who are still in the early stages of their coding careers. It is actually a Windows-based IDE to assist PSP developers in creating various programs.

Its owner, MániácX, dropped by QJ.NET's PSP Development Forum recently to release a new build. Currently in version 2.1, the improvements added to this release may be small in quantity but their implications are quite varied and important. Here's the complete changelog:
  • Added support for LUA files
  • Added Plugin support (for people making their own plugins!)
  • Fixed bug in setup of environment variables
Regarding support for Lua files, MániácX mentioned that a Lua player has also been included in the CSP Development Studio Version 2.1 package. Also, take note that the plugin support now allows users to create and share plugins in DLL format which are make-able in VB.NET, C#, and C++ .NET.

If you are not quite sure how plugins work, a sample plugin was also provided by the developer to help you get started. This one was done using VB.NET and should convert all the text in the document to lower case. On a last note, the download includes a file named "PluginManager.dll".

In the event that you encounter problems with it, MániácX suggested that a simple re-reference of the file should do the trick. A simple search in Google of "vb.net reference dll" will give you valid results.

CSP Development Studio

MániácX informed us that he dropped by the QJ Forums today to alert the community that he's got a new build up for CSP Development Studio. The new release, CSP Development Studio v1.3 has nothing but user-submitted suggestions added to it.

For the unfamiliar, CSP Development Studio is a program intended to help intermediate and beginner PSP coders with their projects. The goal is for the application to be a tool that you can use to help you along with your coding, and help you complete your projects faster.

Unfortunately, we don't have a full changelog at the moment as the developer says that he's "a bit too lazy" to update. Anyhow, he notes that if you visit the the CSP threads and read the feedback, all of the do-able suggestions have been implemented.

If you want to update to version 1.3, feel free to download it using the link below. Just be sure to have either version 1.2 or version 1.21 already installed. The downloadable .exe file should update the version you've got.

Good work, MániácX! Keep the timely updates coming!
