PSP Animation Studio

masonman has released the latest update to his homebrew Lua app PSP Animation Studio. PSP Animation Studio allows other developers to make, view, and edit animations on the PSP.

PSP Animation Studio v3, according to masonman comes with loads of new features and here are just some of them:
  • New menu system with more options such as saving destination and saving format (jpg and png supported)
  • New guidance system
  • Early protocol and fiction loader
  • New saving script with functioning keyboard
You may think these aren't much but there are actually so many new features, masonman didn't bother to list them down. He did put one thing on his to do list which is to integrate the new anilib 4 for spritesheet functionality. Watch for that in the next version. And one final note from the guy: He says all devs can use his code for free. All he asks is to be given proper credit. Which isn't asking for much.

To install PSP Animation Studio v3, extract the file to your luaplayer/applications folder and run "index.Lua"

PSP Animation Studio v2

Turns out that skater boy masonman's "f'd up ankle" has finally healed and he's back to working on his code. As to why he wasn't able to fix on his homebrew app while having a busted ankle, who knows? Maybe he was in the hospital and couldn't get to his computer.

But moving on, he's released v2 for PSP Animation Studio. It's an app built on Lua that allows you to make, view, and edit your very own animations on your PSP. For this to be done on Lua is one big achievement, so two big thumbs up for this guy and his hard work.

Here's a list of new stuff. The added copy-paste functions are tres sweet:
  • (guided) menu system
  • gradiated progress bars for viewing and saving animations
  • found recursive formula for row numbers, so you can have as many frames, rows, and columns as you want
  • color indicator (in bottom left corner)
  • bugfixes
  • COPY and PASTE functions
First timers of this app, here are the controls.
  • Square - change tool
  • X - draw
  • Start - continue
  • Triangle - back
  • L/R - change loop delay
  • Select - change color

Here's yet another one to add to our long list of homebrew apps coded in LUA, the PSP Animation Studio v1. Brought to us by masonman, the same coder who shared with us his LUA game pack more than a week ago, now he's back with this animation app which allows us to basically create, view, and edit animations on our PSPs.

Here are the current features of PSP Animation Studio v1:
  • variable tile size/number
  • various mapping and drawing tools
  • multiple frame view
  • animation veiwer
  • dynamic saver
  • loop rate change
To install this app, simply extract the contents to your luaplayer/applications folder and that's it! You can now run the app on your handhelds. masonman says that there are currently 10 dividers per frame and 10 frames per screen, you press Start to save and view the animation, and then press Start again to go back to the edit menu.

To do:
  • implement menu system with sounds
  • integrate into eboot for .gif extention saving
Don't worry though, masonman assures us that he will be adding more to this app because, as he says, "I have a f'd up ankle and can't skate for a while." Guess you know what that means, more time for coding fellas!

South Park Wars

masonman's here to share his LUA game pack with the whole homebrew community. All you have to do is dump the downloaded zip file's contents to the applications folder inside your luaplayer, and the cool cast of lua games is there for you to enjoy. Also, according to him, you may replace your lowser folder with his mowser folder if desired.

South Park Wars is included in the package, and since we here at QJ are lovers of the humor the said show provides, we decided to try it out first. The game's goal is to jump over your opponent to cause damage to his health pack, until eventually, he dies. And then you win. The shoulder buttons are for the jump action.

Anyway, here's what you'll find in the package:
  • BHB 3.0
    • with bhb chat
    • analog test
    • highscore share, and more
  • Word processor
    • with keyboard and various format options
  • Fun Balls
    • pong type game with good graphics
  • South Park Wars
    • with cool platform two-player action
  • Portable Graphic Art
    • with 20 tools included (copy, paste, color inversion, x, y inversion, spray
  • Mowser (his lowser)
    • with clock, file operations, text viewing, binary reading, photo viewing, and more
  • PAD (PSP aided drafting)
    • with polygon, line, box, and other tools
