Homebrew developer mat_dizzy is back and he's got a new version of his PSP Earth application with him. This homebrew app is essentially a Webcam Portal for your Sony PlayStation Portable, and the new version has some nice improvements over its predecessors. The niftiest of these is a cool, new weather feature that displays times across Europe and corresponding weather information. What's more, the interface is a lot more chic than before with a black and silver theme. This is the complete list of new features:

Homebrew developer mat_dizzy has announced that some features for PSP Earth v0.5 has already been completed and is operational. The Webcam Portal application will be released sometime next week with an all new "futuristic look" in Black, Silver and Grey on the SHR, abandoning the old Yellow and Orange look.
The following features have been integrated for version 0.5:
In mat_dizzy's most recent post, it was also mentioned that a fellow developer stole parts of the source code from PSP Earth v0.2. The author wants to make it clear that PSP Earth is 100% free and always will be, but that the original code must be credited when used by other developers. |

This update doesn't include a download link just yet, but those waiting for PSP Earth v0.5 will probably be quite happy to know that version 0.5 of the homebrew application will be released on August 16. There's some bad news though: mat+dizzy says that the source code for the next PSP Earth release will be locked "due to one person simply breaking the trust rules of PSP Earth". PSP Earth's code will now be copyrighted to minimize the chances of similar issues happening. Anyway, mat_dizzy says that version 0.5 will not include all the promised things, but it does fix quite a lot of the known bugs in the SHR. Here are the features of the as-yet-unknown-code-name Eboot release:

PSP homebrew developer mat_dizzy has just announced the latest version of the PSP Earth portal, branded as this portal's Summer Holiday Release. Note that this isn't the version 0.5 the developer promised earlier - the developer just thought it be cool to be able to release a new PSP Earth version by the beginning of August (hence the name). This latest release carries added camera support, with a total of 13 cameras for you to view via your PSP's WiFi connectivity, including locations from Florida, New York, Honolulu, London, Derbyshire and Paris. Also not to be missed is the new GUI, which mat_dizzy hopes to fix up come v0.5. Installation and Usage details should be available in the file bundle's readme. Download: PSP Earth SHR |

If you've been waiting for PSP Earth v0.5, we're sorry to report that mat_dizzy has announced that it will not be coming out this month. No specifics have been given regarding this delay. Dizzy simply said that "dramatic work is needed to it to make it much better."If you don't know what PSP Earth is, it essentially gives PSP owners webcam access through the handheld's wireless Internet capabilities. The previous version PSP Earth v0.2 beta, which has been out for sometime now, was coded in HTML, Flash, Java, and Visual Basic though it was announced that mat_dizzy has plans to code it in Lua. Could this be the reason for the delay? There has been no word on when exactly PSP Earth v0.5 will be out, so we'll be following up on this. Hopefully, this will come out soon because it really expands the use of the PSP in ways no one thought possible before. |

The homebrew application PSP Earth
has a lot of potential and its owner mat_dizzy just promised to show
just that when he finally release v0.5 next week. Before the juicy part
though, for those not in the know, PSP Earth has the ability to give
PSP owners webcam access through the world via the handheld's wireless
Internet capabilities.
Anyway, mat_dizzy mentioned that PSP Earth is slowly becoming a true software in itself rather than a website because of the many improvements being developed for it. The following rough changelog was provided by the dev himself:

About two weeks ago, PSP homebrew developer mat_dizzy announced a teaser for an upcoming project named PSP Earth. For the guys who haven't heard about it yet, this application promised PSP owners access to webcams worldwide via the PSP's wireless internet capability (Wi-Fi). In case you're wondering how the project's been progressing so far, the developer has just announced release of PSP Earth Beta v0.2. This version, being beta and all, is just a demonstration of how the app's engine works, and a teaser of things to come. For the moment, PSP Earth only has three webcam streams, and is coded in HTML, Flash, Java, and Visual Basic - mat_dizzy plans to code it into Lua (with accompanying EBOOT) format in the near future. Make sure to check out the file readme for usage instructions before anything else. Guys interested in trying PSP Earth will want to have these following items ready (quoting the readme):

PSP coder mat_dizzy has revealed details on an interesting homebrew project under works, currently labeled as PSP Earth Taster. According to the author, this new application will allow PSP owners to view webcams from all over the world live via their portable console. As stated earlier, no details have been given this app, so we don't know how it's going to be pulled off...but it does sound cool. The application is currently being coded as a web portal in HTML/Java/Php/Flash format (It's not an EBOOT), and is actually a follow-up to mat_dizzy's "PSP Cam" project from last year. That's all the (rough) details we have on this potentially ludicrous homebrew, although mat_dizzy hinted that PSP Earth Beta v0.2 will hopefully be released by Wednesday. Stick around in case mat_dizzy updates again, or if more information is found. |
