Retro Rocks, an Asteroid clone, is a superb game on its own. MathFacts has done an excellent job in making us jump up from our seats while we play this game. Your main objective is to avoid rocks by either shooting or maneuvering through 'em. Rocks break into smaller pieces when shot; also watch out for the occasional popping UFO, they'll shoot you down!

What really made this game stand out was the "hyperspace" feature. It's where you randomly end up in a certain part of the screen to escape a marauding barrage of space rocks, only to die by getting hit with a small pebble.

We also liked the sound effects of the rockets and laser guns. Cute! The space background was a great add as well--it made the game a bit more colorful than usual. The instructions are very easy to understand and it's an addicting game with a great view of the stars.

Kudos to MathFacts and his beta testers (son and daughter)! We'll be expecting more fun games from you and your team.

Mathfacts has sent in a Lua retro-styled vector game titled 'Boxed In' for his entry into QJ.net's Summer Coding Competition. In this game you start with 5 ships and have to shoot the moving blocks to change them into the target color. You can pass through blocks that are your ships color without blowing up, but cannot pass through blocks that are another color. Sound too easy? Of course, that's not all!

Whilst shooting blocks and moving up through the level you also have to keep an eye on the timer because if it reaches zero your ship will be destroyed. The game also has its own wildcard - the UFO. This UFO can blow up your ship or change the color of blocks so that you cannot safely pass through them. Your score is determined by the number of seconds remaining on the
timer multiplied by the wave number. High scores are saved on the game so you can try your best to beat your mates! The download comes packaged with 1.5 Eboots so Lua Player is not required.

Remember: We'll post information describing the next stage of the competition and how the polling system will work once all of the entries have been released.
