Apparently, Sony's been demonstrating the "next level of disc copying" to a curious audience and successfully transferred an entire Blu-ray movie as a lower-res version to a PlayStation Portable's memory stick. More on that at the full story.

Anato Wo Yurusanai - Image 1Those who are into gaming just for the stories can check out AQ Interactive and ChunSoft's "sound novel" Anato Wo Yurusanai (I Won't Forgive You), and according to the latest TV spot for this sound novel, it promises to provide more entertainment compared to just reading plain black text over white background. This short TV ad shows a row of women reading, with one of them blissfully poring through Anato Wo Yurusanai in her PSP, reading as well as playing at the same time. Hmmm... It sounds an awful lot like playing through Phoenix Wright.

E-Buddy Live Portal: makes instant messaging easier - Image 1Developer TJcrazy has just launched the E-buddy Live Portal. This homebrew gives users an easy way of accessing the PSP-E-Buddy site from a Windows Live Messenger Portal.

All in all, this is a pretty comprehensive portal which should make browsing much more fun. In case you get tired of messaging your friends, games and applications from the QJ Portal were transferred over including favorites such as PSP Simon, Roobix, Copter, and even Tetris. It also includes ICDraw, Image-viewer, a text file reader, and a Flash Media Player.

This is the first version of the program and we can expect even better things from this project. TJcrazy has given word that he plans to release at least one more program at a later date. Installing and using the program is pretty straight-forward though it's still advisable to go over the documentation before doing anything.

Audio Mechanica v6d - with lowered clock speed - Image 1Audio Mechanica v6d - with lowered clock speed - Image 2

We have to say that this next homebrew application came as a surprise to us here at QJ.NET because the last update to it was done by developer Art back in October 2006. What we are talking about is Audio Mechanica which basically records your voice through a PSP-compatible microphone.

After recording your voice, it then saves it as a .WAV file that can be played back using Windows Media Player. One of the major updates to Audio Mechanica v6d is the lowered clock speed so that it saves battery life. The program now runs at 133/133/1 by default. Here are the other changes as provided by Art:
  • The Digital Delay Processor can delay an audio channel by a user defined value. This could save on a stand alone piece of equipment that does the same job.
  • The Yakback Emulator uses voice activation routines to record continuous chunks of sound, and auto playback each continuous sound chunk. This works rather like a parrot, repeating everything you say after each pause (repeating everything you say after each pause).
  • The Yakback Emulator is the beginnings of the way I'd go about a speech recognition, or lie detection program.
  • The Virtual Tape Recorder mode works as the previous digital recorder.
  • The Voice Activation mode works as the Virtual Tape Recorder, with the addition of an adjustable sound activation level that can make the recorder work like a dictaphone, only recording segments of continuous sound.
Don't forget to browse through the Readme.txt file before installing this program on your PSPs. You can also click on our forum link below to discuss it with other users.

Xandu's Media Player 1.2d - Image 1

PSP homebrew developer Xandu has just released the latest version of his media application and it is now on version 1.2d. And guess what? The dev was proud to announce that Xandu's Media Player now sports custom skins and ID3v2 support.

In the unfortunate case that you've been living under a rock, Xandu's Media Player is a homebrew media app that supports .mp3, .wav, IT, MOD, S3M, and OGG. It features an iPod-like interface and an iPod clickwheel capability. Other nifty features include shuffle mode, album art, music quiz, ID3 tags, and louder sound output than XMB. Anyway, version 1.2d has the following changes and additions:
  • ID3v2 now supported!
  • Theme support added and opened.(This means you can do your own themes!).
  • Album Art support refined. (JPEG errors reduced)
Xandu notes that the app's files should be dumped in the GAME150 folder, while the music files need to be in the PSP/MUSIC folder. As usual, the dev included the User Manual so be sure to check it out in case you have any questions or problems. And remember, make sure that your music file names don't have any foreign characters since it will affect the app if you do.

At any rate, check out Xandu's Media Player by clicking the download link below. Enjoy!

Maxime Calculator v2.0 - Image 1 Maxime Calculator v2.0 - Image 2

Homebrew developer PiratoNervo has come up with a new calculator program for the PlayStation Portable that is more exciting than the ones we've seen before. The name of the application is Maxime Calculator and the cool thing about this is that it allows users to play music because it comes with its own media player.

Anyway, Maxime Calculator is currently on version 2.0 and according to PiratoNervo, this is going to be the last build for this application unless he minds a major bug in the program. The changelog for this build is as follows:
  • New theme.
  • You can switch theme in the options menu.
  • Fixed ICON0 bug.
  • Fixed memory issue when scrolling numbers.
  • Fixed bug when dividing a number by 0.
Since the application doesn't come with a Readme file, please pay attention to these key maps for both the calculator and media player modes:
  • Media Player
    • Sometimes you wont see the file browser, if it happends(when you click X on the button of the file browser) you just need to press Triangle and you can press X again to try again.
    • Press X to select the option(if you want to play, stop, pause, or load musics)
    • Holding [] over a button and moving the analog at the same time will move the button.
  • Calculator
    • Use the arrows to move scroll numbers.
    • If you want to clear it you just need to click where you see the =, it will erase everything after you press any arrow.
