Dark AleX Time Machine v0.1 now out! - Image 1Dark AleX's Time Machine is now out for the PSP! If you remember, we were shown how it could install 1.50 kernel on the PSP Slim, and PSP FW 2.70 also on the Slim. It can load more FW and CFWs than we previously thought, actually. PSP Firmware 3.60 Installer - Image 1FreePlay has come out with an interesting installer for expert PSP users who, for one reason or another, want to revert their PSPs to Firmware 3.60. It's called the PSP Slim Firmware 3.60 Installer and with a bit of setting up, it allows users to revert their PSP firmware down to 3.60.

Like we said though, it's not newbie-friendly. FreePlay intentionally made it so due to the risks involved in flashing an entire firmware. Feel free to head to full article if you want to learn more.

PSP and Xbox 360, best selling gaming platforms - Image 2It comes as no surprise that the sales for the Xbox 360 are still soaring until now. To date, the Xbox 360 has received a 260% sales increase in the UK while the PSP is at an all-time low since it was launched. However, Sony will try to turn its fortunes around when the PSP Slim finally hits the shelves this September 14.

Sony is expecting to bank on the PSP's 66MB NAND memory in the new Slim line, as well as the new 80GB PS3, to help increase their sales by the holidays.

On the other hand, things just seem to be looking up for Microsoft and the Xbox 360. The prices for the top selling console is expected to go down as Chinese manufacturers are looking to produce components that can play blue-laser, high-definition discs using a Chinese national standard (AVS), but are still compatible HD-DVD with only minor adjustments. Because of this, people will only need slight alterations will be needed to sell drives and components that can play HD-DVDs at rock-bottom prices.

We'll keep everyone posted on any more updates we have on the ongoing "console wars," so don't forget to check into us from time to time.

PSP Slim taken apart: peek-a-boo TA-085 - Image 1

Straight from 0okm, creator of homebrew enablers, took the PSP Slim and Lite (or PSP-2000) apart and discovered that the the new PlayStation Portable's board is spanking brand new - new enough to warrant a new PCB version. Folks, welcome TA-085.

Now the kicker here is that the new aesthetics, appearance, UMD drives, plus the video-out feature and firmware version 3.60 aren't the only things that would set your trusty PSP apart from its slimmer cousin. 0okm speculates that the NAND Flash and DRAM memory could both be embedded in the new CPU chip, identified as CXD29758GG. An FCC ID would have helped identify the chip's maker and specs, but none was provided as of yet.

Now it's no secret that 4 Mebibytes (mega binary bytes) of DRAM are also embedded in former PSP systems, such as TA-082s, but details as to how much memory and where it's embedded is difficult to determine. The Media Engine chip, specifications unknown as of press time, had the chip ID CXD5029 printed on its surface. More details to come as soon as they develop. Image courtesy of 0okm.

Thanks to xSaVage for the tip!

Another custom firmware in the works: 3.51 XR? - Image 1Another custom firmware is apparently in the works called the 3.51XR, this one is being developed by pj1115. The developer has given word that it is "based loosely on OE, but I have no association with or rights to OE or Dark_AleX."

In the title of his post, he brazenly announced that his version kicks CFW v3.51 M33's @$$. Well, considering that it hasn't been released yet, we currently don't know if this statement is valid or not, but the feature list along with the upcoming additions do look pretty good. Here's a complete listing of the current features implemented and set to be implemented:
  • Fixed compatibility issues with modules and resources. M33 has them.
  • Bug fixes.
  • Added XR recovery menu.
  • Increased theme compatibility.
  • Replaced network update with my custom firmware updater.
  • Load modules & resources from memory stick.
  • Config file on the MS for other configuration (spoof version number, recovery theming, etc.)
  • Ability to have all 12 BG images as full-res.

Features planned:

  • Play MP3/WAV/OGG on boot instead of opening sound. No length restriction.
  • Boot password protection & integrate an adapted HideMedia.
  • Ability to edit config file on MS from recovery & add MAC spoofing (only affects XMB - iDstorage is untouched).
  • Add super features such as dump/write NAND image, dump/write iDstorage to recovery.
  • Increase no-UMD compatibility.
The developer said there are already four people testing it.
