Beaterator - Image 1The admin folks of the New York Public Schools must have been inspired by the amazing PS22 Choir, but to leave music education to a video game? That's right, and it's not just any other music video game. It's Timbaland's Beaterator taking on sub duties for these public schools. Hey, if you want street cred, that's it right there.

PSP Go - Image 1Remember that gigantic PSP billboard that Sony put up high and proud over SoHo in New York? Well, if you're expecting a PSP Go version of that for its much-anticipated launch, sorry, but you're gonna have to be disappointed.

Texting while driving - Image 1While common sense would tell you to leave your PSP be while you're doing 80 across the highway, the senate has gotten up to take extra steps to make sure that you won't make that potentially fatal mistake. A new bill has just been passed, and it will soon be illegal in New York state to text, browse the net, or play video games while driving.

warning labelAt this rate, if all these bills being proposed get written into actual law, video game box art would be obsolete. In their place, it's just one big white label on the cover: warning warning danger warning! Following last week's proposal of having a huge list of warnings on game boxes (sodomy, rape, bestiality, incest, murder, etc.), a new bill now wants a warning label linking photosensitivity epilepsy and video games.

WARNINGRemember when assemblyman Keith L.T. Wright proposed to have kids protected from racist games and its ilk? And before that, representative Joe Baca introduced another bill which wanted those obtrusive warning labels on video game boxes. Take those two bills and up the ante with a whole list of mature content warnings, plus a US$ 1000 fine for violators. Thus, you get this new one. Execute order 66 A2837!

PSP - Image 1This is just absolutely crazy. Fine, it's not news, but... if you wanted to see proof of how popular the PSP is in Russia, here's a video showing two guys stealing a 4-foot PSP displayed in a street stand advertisement! Viral marketing? Hmmm...

ManhuntOh please. Not another one. This following yesterday's news of having warning labels on game boxes? Oy vey... Apparently, a new bill is going around the New York Assembly. This one was introduced by one Kieth L.T. Wright, and he aims to have even more restrictions in the selling of video games. On top of the already existing ESRB ratings, the new bill would have minors shielded from racism, cursing, and other forms of insult in video games.

No to DLC taxes - Image 1What's this? More taxes?!? More importantly, in downloadable content?!? Come. On. Apparently, it's gonna suck to be a New Yorker because of this. Included in the state's proposed budget is the suggestion that DLC, in both the iPod and video games, be taxed.
