On to fifth issue of QuickJump QuickPeek! Positive feedback has been strong and if there's one thing we love to do outside playing videogames, that's got to be making sure you guys are liking your stay here. So amidst the fanboyish shouts of "Avada Kevadra" and "Erecto Wand" (opps, wrong spell) from potter maniacs here at the office, we bring you the round-up of the things that shook the halls of the gaming industry this week.

PlayStation Portable

Welcome to our fifth issue! For this run, we have more news that prove how strong the PSP homebrew scene is. For starters, we have Sony CEO Jack Tretton signifying support for PSP homebrew. For those who missed this report, try pulling those raised eyebrows a little lower first.

OK, this "little" revelation was made on an IGN interview with Sony bigwigs Tretton, senior manager Patrick Seybold, and senior director Dave Karraker. When asked whether they have any plans of giving PSP homebrew some long-deserved love, here's what Mr. Tretton has to say: "We certainly see some of the stuff that has been done via homebrew, and it's incredibly creative. And I think we'd like to try and tap into that a little bit more".

Now ain't that a stunner? Not really. Sony's a company that thrives on creativity, so it's highly likely that they still know how to appreciate creative strokes of genius when they see it. However certain boundaries are part of entrepreneurial realities, so it's only natural for them to be protective of their own product. We'll keep an eye on how this will develop. Meanwhile...

The full issue awaits after the jump!

Homebrew community to get some Sony love - image by Gizmodo - Image 1

IGN's Greg Miller, venerable reviewer, editor, PlayStation team member and all-around awesome guy - perhaps the guy of sorts you'd want to review your own PSP homebrew game - offered to send a few questions straight to the big three of Sony Computer Entertainment, getting the official and unflinching lowdown from the likes of CEO Jack Tretton, senior manager Patrick Seybold and senior director Dave Karraker on your deepest (and apparently heated) questions on anything and everything Sony-related.

And guess what? A question regarding official homebrew game support by a lucky lad named caterman was apparently selected by Miller and sent to Sony. Though many would have thought Sony would have worn its Gauntlets of Oppression +10 for this segment of the email Q&A, the games division of arguably the world's largest consumer electronics brand wasn't exactly the homebrew antagonist we possibly all felt they were.

In fact, they've expressed a lot of interest in homebrew, especially after witnessing a lot of output over the PSP scene. "We certainly see some of the stuff that has been done via homebrew, and it's incredibly creative. And I think we'd like to try and tap into that a little bit more," said Jack Tretton.

But wait, there's a catch. Get some insight on that right after the jump!

Sony opens official PlayStation Blog - Image 1

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) just opened a new section over at its official PlayStation site. It's actually a whole blog and Sony maintains that as soon as it gets the hang of blogging, it's going to be a place where it can share with fans the company's collective insights, opinions, and perspectives.

The blog itself has different sections like the PlayStation Network (PSN), Developer Corner, Hardware, and Title Spotlight where new and upcoming video games are highlighted. Public Relation Senior Manager Patrick Seybold has one of the earliest entries. He says:

At the moment, we're thinking about sharing all sorts of things here, ranging from product news and title announcements to developer updates and industry opinion posts - all of which will come straight from the people here inside SCEA who are working, thinking and playing with this stuff everyday.

The PlayStation Blog has its comments options turned on so you can directly tell the officials what you think about them and their products. Seybold added that comments are in fact encouraged so that they will know what the fans really want from them.

The Read link below will take you to the official PlayStation blog. After paying them a visit, come back here and tell us what you think about this move from Sony.
