 Following the government decision to uphold PEGI as the sole and official ratings board in UK, the BBFC has sent their well-wishes, albeit still with that restrained barb. BBFC Director David Cooke insisted that the BBFC would have been the better choice. Meanwhile, top industry heads are giving their praises for the government's pick. In our earlier article about PEGI becoming the UK standard for game ratings, some of you expressed skepticism on how the monotone PEGI labels could fare better that the BBFC's brighter ones. Well, PEGI has the answer: they've added a splash of color to their rating labels.

The UK government has announced that it will be going with the PEGI ratings system as the standard form of videogame classification in the region. The PEGI system will be implemented for every game released in the UK. The BBFC, which used to handle games classification, will stick to classifying and rating films and DVDs.

Pan European Game Information (PEGI) has found a new ally in Toine Manders, a member of the European Parliament's Committee. According to videogaming247, the politician has recommended that Europe should universally adopt PEGI's rating system.

Just like nagging parents, we never seem to run short on getting reminders to check on game ratings before we purchase titles. With the holidays in sight, the ELSPA (Entertainment Leisure & Software Publishers Association) urges parents to check PEGI (Pan European Game Information) ratings to protect their kids from harmful content. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is threatening to sue the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) for copying their current rating board for the classification of videogames. The new system proposed by the ELSPA is supposed to give parents a quick and easy reference on the appropriateness of a particular video game though a series of colored symbols.

And the war against BBFC wages on. Are they really fit to rate video games, considering their system is built on movie ratings? ELSPA boss Paul Jackson spells things out for everyone: he says the BBFC isn't fit to rate video games anymore, and that PEGI would do a better job at it.
