PSPIRC screenshot - Image 1Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew developer zx-81 just released another update to one of his many PSP homebrew applications, this time giving love to PSPIRC. After the flurry of new features last update, PSPIRC version 1.0.7 addresses a handful of bugs that surfaced.

As some already know, Zx-81 picked up the IRC engine originally made by Danzef then added IR keyboard support based on Harald Fielker's work. Now, the PSP homebrew developer constantly updates PSPIRC for the best chat experience on the Sony handheld. This version eliminates a couple of bugs users encountered, and added a line edit mode. Here are the changes:
  • Bug fix in Danzef keyboard (characters ? and # weren't mapped properly)
  • Bug fix on fw-3x, the PSP freeze when more than 7 tabs were opened simultaneously
  • New line edit mode in IRC console
Two versions, one for firmware 1.5 and another for 3.xx OE CFW, are available. For those who haven't tried the app before, there are helpful Readme files in both downloads with enough instructions that should help you to get started. If there are any bugs, or if you want to send your suggestions, just visit zx-81's release thread at the QJ.NET forums.

PSPoste - Image 1PSP homebrew developer zx-81 dropped by the QJ.Net Forums to tell us all about his latest update for PSPoste, an email client originally made by David Cummings, Ben Biron, and Sajeeth Cherian. PSPoste: Email Client for PSP Beta 6.2 has added keyboard support for a more convenient PSP email experience.

Like the last update, zx-81 made both FW 1.50 and FW 3.xx versions available. In this release, PSPoste has been linked with the latest IR keyboard library that PSPIRC also uses. More IR keyboards, which the developer previously credited to Harald Fielker, are now supported.

If you've been itching to use your Palm IR keyboard, and is not running on CFW 3.71-2 which has been reported to be incompatible with PSPoste, then grab the version that suits you from the links below. The homebrew dev has also made the source code available below for those interested.

PSPIRC v1.0.6 - IRC client for your PSP - Image 1Thanks to numerous contributions from other PSP homebrew developers, dev Zx-81 has stepped out with PSPIRC version 1.0.6, an update to PSPIRC v1.0.5. This program will let you connect to Internet Relay Chat servers and chat while on your PlayStation Portable. It's got support for the Sprint PCS IR keyboard, and if you don't have one, it'll let you settle for the old-fashioned on-screen keyboard input.

The homebrew application, coded with Danzel's IRC engine, was combined with Zx-81's UI for PSPSSH. IR keyboard support was added after referencing Harald Fielker's PSP IR Keyboard Library, and tested with a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard. So far only two versions are out: one for firmware 1.50 and another for 3.40 OE CFWs. Additions to version 1.0.6 include:
  • Add all iso8859-1 characters in danzeff virtual keyboard
  • All text fonts are now compatible with iso8859-1 characters
  • Bug fix in IR keyboard .ini files with UTF8 specification
  • (for example mapping string such as "u+c3a0" didn't work properly)
  • New Targus [keyboard] mapping with French characters mapped from ALT 1 up to ALT -
We've provided both versions below, as presented in the homebrew author's blog. With it comes an archive which holds PSPIRC's source code. In order to install either version of the application, you will have to refer to the included readme texts for instructions.

PSPIRC by zx-81 - Image 1 PSP homebrew developer zx-81 has just released a new version of PSPIRC. This spanking new version, 1.0.5, is bringing a couple of changes to the said application, both for support and aesthetics.

In case you haven't the slightest idea what PSPIRC is, it's basically a chat client for the PSP. It sports a virtual keyboard, IR keyboard support, courtesy of Harald Fielker's work, and works both for firmware 1.5 and 3.40-OE. Anyway, here are the changes for version 1.0.5:

  • Support iso-8859-1 characters in IRC console for West European languages (characters such as à, é, è ... are now printed properly instead of a white space)
  • Bug fix in console display
We did say PSPIRC version 1.0.5 only has a couple of changes right? At any rate, check out the downloads below. And remember to go over the Readme files bundled with the downloads for important information regarding the application.

If you're among the guys who downloaded PSPIRC v1.0.3 a few days ago, we've got an update. The homebrew's developer, Zx-81, dropped by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce that the application has been revamped to version v1.0.4.

For the benefit of first-time readers unfamiliar with this application, here's a recap: PSPIRC is a PSP-based  Internet Relay Chat client, and was originally based on the IRC engine written by Danzel. PSPIRC's keyboard support is based on Harald Fielker's works, and has been successfully tested on a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard.

This new release hosts several tweaks and fixes:
  • PSP-IRC screenshot - Image 1New Search Channel menu with filter using regular expressions
  • New menu for user permissions management (modes, ban, kick etc ...)
  • New options such as custom colors, distinct colors for each user and time stamp.
  • Add feature to run any custom scripts
  • Many server messages are now displayed with proper formatting.
  • New commands such as Banlist, Who and WhoIS
  • Display user permission in the user list
  • Display unread tab in tabs list (with '+' flag)
  • Add flags (red color) to see unread tabs
  • Add option to write text like mIRC (beginning on bottom).
  • New commands in the Danzeff virtual keyboard
  • Add feature to retrieve last input (useful when you want to enter the same kind of command several times)
  • Add startup script feature
  • Display right nickname in private channel
  • Name Resolver is now blocking (hope that will fix name resolution issue)
  • Fix in the save log file (no more blank lines)
  • Close all tabs before to disconnect
  • Add second space key for Targus (mapping file)
  • Bug fix & Code cleaning
PSPIRC v1.0.4 has been confirmed to work on firmwares 1.5 and 3.40-OE. As with Zx-81's previous works, more information such as controls are available in the file bundle's readme - be sure to check that when you finish downloading the app. Also remember to drop by Zx-81's thread at our QJ.Net Forums in case more information is released.

This particular program, which is actually an IRC client for the PSP, allows users to go online and chat with other people around the world. A lot of new changes and improvements have been added in this version and the dedication put in the release is really showing. Just take a look at this changelog:

  • Use nickname instead of user name on startup
  • Text colors are now displayed (foreground and background)
  • Use custom text colors for your posts
